Gotham City Simulator
Gotham City Simulator Chapter 40

On the early morning of April 25th, the night sky was dark and gloomy.

On the helicopter, Vivi received a call from the “Council” for the first time.

When the call appeared on her screen, she also received a special guide quest:

You have activated the guide quest: The Mayor’s Identity

Anna Alek, you never tried to explore your own identity. Why did you become the mayor of Gotham City? Perhaps this call will give you the answer.

Character Card Module activated. Extract valuable information from the call with the Council, which will be displayed in the character cards

Quest Reward: 20 Diamonds

Vivi noticed that the glasses she hadn’t put on from her bag had disappeared, and a new selectable module, the Character Module, had been added to the system panel.

Anna Alek, Bella Bettywen, C, and Vivi herself were all in this module, with the option to switch between characters.

Others were on the plane, but she didn’t try to switch. Instead, she quickly scanned the panel—

Anna was on the first page, with a portrait on the left and her name, height, weight, and other basic data below. On the top right were bound outfits, including her work suit and a dress she wore only once. Below were her personal items.

Bella was on the second page, with only her regular clothes as bound outfits, but she had a motorcycle, unlike Anna, and a long list of skills.

Surprisingly, “C” was also there, on the third page. Could this fabricated character also count as a character? There were no skills on this page, but there was a phone book with numbers of important NPCs related to C, like Penguin and Violin. C’s icon was a gender-neutral silhouette.

—Under the silhouette was a line: Which is the real you, the one in your eyes or the one in others’ eyes?

The last page was Vivi herself, the brown-haired girl smiling brightly, with only one default appearance. Unlike the other characters, her item slot contained two corpses. Focusing on the items showed the cause and location of the corpses’ deaths.

Vivi: “…quite distinctive.”

She answered the call on the helicopter. Truth be told, the noise was not small, and the person on the other end was a lady, introducing herself only by her surname, asking Vivi to call her “Mrs. Rothschild.”

Vivi browsed through the character information in front of her, casually maneuvering through the conversation.

As the conversation deepened, new information began to fill the blank spaces on Anna’s character panel.

Identity: Mayor (Illegitimate daughter of the head of New York’s wealthy Diamond family)

Short Introduction: After the previous mayor was murdered and you were politically disadvantaged, you clicked with a high-level member of the Council. You were voted as Gotham’s new mayor, and everyone thought you were just a temporary figurehead… Look at what you’ve done, now you’re a betrayer in their eyes! However, it seems there is still a chance to remedy this?

“What exactly are you doing, Alek?” Mrs. Rothschild’s tone was dissatisfied, with a hint of complaint, “You are destroying Gotham. Only under the Court’s control is Gotham at its best, and you want to destroy her for yourself!”

Vivi’s expression was odd, she said: “Then what should I do?”

The voice on the other end softened a lot: “You have successfully grasped the power in your hands, good child, but you should not try to change the situation in Gotham, nor cooperate with others—”

This “others” must refer to Mr. C, how come everyone knows him, is Mr. C about to debut as a national idol?

Vivi interrupted: “Will you send the Talon to kill me?”

Her disrespectful attitude made Mrs. Rothschild’s tone much colder: “Maybe, but you still have time to turn back, if—”

“Can you mass-produce the Talon?”

“Of course not…” Mrs. Rothschild paused, realizing, and became irritated by Vivi’s repeated interruptions, “Alek!”

The Talon can’t be mass-produced? Then their numbers must be few. Sending them to assassinate Bella Bettywen must be a high regard, is it because of Bettywen herself, or because they suspect Bettywen is Mayor Alek’s subordinate?

Vivi pondered the information revealed, feeling that the hidden messages behind it were intriguing. She purposely said: “Everything I do is for the Court, just that we chose different paths, Mrs. Rothschild.”

The other side was silent for longer, then dropped the words “You better not regret it” and hung up.

Vivi tapped the helicopter window, flying under the nebula, the lights of Gotham City much brighter than the stars.

She suddenly laughed out loud.

Because she found the plot and background design of the game really interesting—

When Vivi first activated the Owl Court as a new power, the other side had a neutral-evil affinity towards her, and reminded her that she could remedy it.

Then she brainwashed the head of the SWAT special forces, and froze the Talon sent by the Owl into ice blocks, but now Vivi opened the power module—

Owl Court (Neutral-Good)

The Court is slightly displeased with you, but they will not truly act against you for the time being, as you are the mayor they pushed into power

Because the developer hid a backstory of “Anna Alek,” Vivi never imagined this character would have a story. She only found out now—

Anna Alek, perhaps she was originally a person of the Court!

【You have completed the guide quest: The Mayor’s Identity】

Since Mr. C, the “mastermind,” can’t be caught, might as well eradicate all his minions.

SWAT Special Forces drove in three unmanned small tanks. As their men moved through the streets, people peeked out of windows in silence, and shop owners, seeing the car lights from afar, promptly closed their convenience store doors.

The entire SWAT deployment of 120 people was staggering, but on the way to Crime Alley, Winston waved his hand, directing his deputy: “Head to Carmine Corner.”

Though puzzled, the deputy didn’t question and immediately passed down the order —

Carmine Corner is also part of the East District. Gotham, a coastal city, has this area near the beach, long occupied by a criminal gang. Winston explained, “I’ve received information that some of Penguin’s men are hiding here.”

Their unit’s official reason for deployment was to pursue Penguin’s fugitives.

With their numerical and weapon superiority, the battle at Carmine Corner ended in less than an hour.

There are always casualties in battle. Winston left a few to guard the prisoners and contacted the MCU division in the East District to take them away.

Then, in his deputy’s bewildered gaze, he continued to order: “Head to the Boiler District.”

The Boiler District also erupted in street battles. Only the criminals hiding here who surrendered quickly and were lucky kept their lives.

Next was the Kane Bridge, where two small gangs, caught in a weapons trade, collapsed after slight resistance. Then there was Bowery Street, close to Crime Alley, where they couldn’t even open fire, as the local ruffians were too alert. The real criminals had long fled elsewhere, leaving only orphans and nightingales trembling in their dilapidated rooms… The now halved force finally reached Crime Alley.

The deputy breathed a sigh of relief, almost thinking their next target was MCU headquarters — after all, MCU is also in the East District.

Reaching Crime Alley, in contrast to the prosperity of the main city, it was much more rundown here. Few high buildings, almost no shops, and at night, few lit windows. Those few that were lit with ambiguous red lights were nightingales attracting customers.

Although they used a lot of firepower, as long as the rocket launchers and tanks were operational, it wasn’t a big problem.

In street battles using these small tanks, unless they encounter the Batmobile, they practically have no enemies. The deputy was sure of this.

Batman and his partner often appeared in the East District due to its high crime rate. But even if Batman was here, there was no reason for him to stop them, right?

The deputy, raising his binoculars, suddenly saw darkness in front of him.

A figure with a bluebird on his chest descended from the sky and crouched on their vehicle’s hood.

“Good evening gentlemen, are you here for a weapons display?” His upper face covered by a domino mask, he smiled an easy yet chilling smile, glancing at the cannon protruding from the window. “RPG1? Tanks? Using such weapons in the city is a bad idea, unless you want to get crushed by falling steel bars?”

His staff extended, effortlessly blocking the nearest soldier holding a rocket launcher by the shoulder, then using the recoil to hook the weapon in the soldier’s hand, flipping it upwards. As the weapon soared, he sprayed it with gel explosive, and with a swing, sent the bomb-wrapped rocket launcher flying away —

The weapon exploded mid-air, a blast of wind sweeping through, carrying the scent of gunpowder, making everyone instinctively cover their faces.

Winston, catching a glimpse from the corner of his eye, saw someone in another vehicle raising a launcher and angrily exclaimed, “No RPGs allowed? Are they trying to blow me up too?”

But in his heart, he silently applauded Nightwing.

Well done!
