Chapter 1
“Poor Commander Lu. Young, handsome, good family background—how did he end up marrying such a shameless woman?”
“Pah! And she calls herself an educated youth? Sneaking around with a man in broad daylight! If it were me, I’d have no face left to live. Might as well bash my head against a wall and be done with it!”
“Exactly! Back in the old days, she would’ve been thrown into a pig cage already!”
“Shh! Lower your voices—look over there, that jeep! I heard Secretary Wang went to call Commander Lu from the military district. He’s probably on his way.”
…
Amid a flurry of judgmental voices and the screech of jeep tires, Song Si jolted awake in the dim ruins of an abandoned temple. What she saw was a crumbling earthen house—mud-yellow walls, paper-covered wooden windows, dusty wooden furniture, and a deity statue not far off—
What… is this?
*“Ding! Dear Host, you have now been bound to the Transmigration System. Welcome to the storyline of the era novel ‘Seventies: Cultivating the Virtuous Female Supporting Role’…”
A cold and aloof electronic voice crackled into her mind, static hissing with interference.
Song Si stood frozen.
She wasn’t dead?
She had… been reborn? And inside some retro-era novel?
‘Seventies: Cultivating the Virtuous Female Supporting Role’?
What kind of sick joke was this? The Qing Dynasty has long been over, and now this stupid system wants her to act virtuous and demure?
Song Si arched an eyebrow. “What did you just say? Repeat that.”
The glitchy electronic voice stuttered through the static, explaining that she had to complete a mission.
She pieced it together: she had transmigrated into a dog-blood retro novel full of fake-real daughter drama. The heroine’s name was Song Nian, and the original owner of this body was also Song Si—same name, same surname. Switched at birth with the fake daughter, their identities had been swapped from the start.
In this ridiculous setup, she was cast as the “real daughter” but was supposed to play the supporting role—acting virtuous and self-sacrificing while helping the fake daughter and her now-broke fiancé rise to success.
She’d seen absurd things before, but this really took the cake!
“Host, currently in the same room with you is the male lead, Gu Chen—the fiancé of the heroine Song Nian. He was forced to the countryside. You, however, are married to Lu Yancheng. Your mission is to use Lu Yancheng’s background to help Gu Chen return to the city and reunite with Song Nian.”
Wait—married?
With family background?
So the novel was really ‘Seventies: Cultivating the Virtuous Female Supporting Role’?
And she had a military husband with status?
Song Si asked calmly, “Can I give you a name?”
The system paused. “Sure, dear Host.”
Her voice was low and playful. “Then from now on, your name is Da Huang.”
Da Huang?
The system lagged—if it remembered correctly, wasn’t there a dog named Da Huang in this exact novel?!
But considering its current situation, it endured. “Great name! I love it.”
Song Si gave a slow smile, laced with double meaning. “I think it suits you too. Glad you like it.”
System: “…”
Why did that tone sound so… wrong?
A long silence followed. Then the system timidly reminded, “Dear Host, you haven’t accepted the mission yet. Our binding isn’t complete.”
Binding?
So it needed her consent?
Song Si asked, “If I refuse, will you send me back to my original world?”
The system panicked. “ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!”
Song Si fell silent, suspicious.
Was this dumb system lying to her?
Just then, she felt an intense stare and lifted her cool gaze toward the man standing nearby.
That must be Gu Chen, right? The male lead, Song Nian’s fiancé?
Hah. He didn’t even look like he was 180cm. With 10cm heels, she could definitely stand taller than him.
Recalling the harsh voices she’d heard upon waking, her eyes darkened.
So she’d been thrown straight into a cheating scandal?
She looked around—yep, seemed like an abandoned temple.
The original owner and this Gu fellow had some interesting taste. Sneaking off to a temple to hook up? How disrespectful.
Gu Chen stared at her, nervous. “Sisi, are you okay?”
Before she could answer, the grating voice of the system spoke again:
“Don’t worry, Host. The male lead can’t hear our conversation.”
Song Si gave an indifferent “oh,” then paused. “Da Huang, excuse me, we haven’t bonded yet. Please refrain from calling me ‘Host.’”
The system was so mad it buzzed with static.
Song Si raised an eyebrow. “You glitching?”
System grumbled, “I’m NOT! Please accept the mission!!”
Realizing its tone was too harsh, it quickly softened, “Dear Host, bind with Da Huang, and you’ll get amazing rewards~”
Song Si sneered, “What, a copy of Women’s Commandments?”
System: “……”
Song Si: “Tell you what—give me a personal space first, then I’ll consider it.”
System: “……”
She turned her eyes to the man still awkwardly staring at her.
Gu Chen took a deep breath. “Sisi, you—”
She cut him off coldly. “Please show some respect. We’re not that close. Call me Comrade Song.”
Her tone was chilly, her face even more so. Gu Chen froze in shock. “Sisi, did you hit your head? Should I take you to the village clinic?”
Song Si replied, “You hit your head. Your whole family hit their heads.”
Gu Chen’s face flushed red. “Song Si!”
He prided himself on being cultured, and with so many people outside… If this turned into a scandal, his chances of returning to the city would vanish. He needed Song Si to help explain things!
He remembered rumors that this temple was haunted. Maybe Song Si had been possessed after falling?
Yes—that had to be it! Otherwise, why would she suddenly stop throwing herself at him?
With that comforting thought, he softened his tone and gently coughed. “Comrade Song, it seems there are a lot of people outside. I think Secretary Wang and Commander Lu are here too. You should explain that we were just… exchanging ideas, so they don’t get the wrong idea. We don’t want any rumors starting.”
Song Si let out a dry laugh.
[What kind of pathetic excuse is that? Even C-list celebrities stopped using this one years ago. Even dogs wouldn’t buy it.]
What she didn’t realize was that due to the system’s bug after failing to forcibly bind with her, her internal thoughts were now being broadcast out loud.
The villagers and other educated youths listening outside: “……”
From her earlier conversation, they’d thought maybe Song Si had finally come to her senses.
Clearly, they were wrong.
This woman…
They all glanced with a mix of curiosity and sympathy at the tall, broad-shouldered man in the military coat standing outside the temple door.
Such a perfect man… and he’s been completely cuckolded!
Commander Lu had just been about to push open the door when a familiar voice stopped him cold. His hand froze mid-motion.
His sculpted, handsome face instantly darkened.
His voice was low, controlled, yet laced with chilling fury:
“Song Si.”
