Chapter 33
He Yunzhen was just about to speak when she heard the voice from inside the hospital room—
[Sigh, a proud Chinese man his whole life—just got taken a little advantage of and he’s already falling apart. So fragile! Crumbles at the slightest hit!]
Lu Yancheng: “……”
He suddenly felt a bit worried for his father.
Bringing her to Wancheng, he was originally afraid she might be wronged, but now it seemed he had overthought it!
With her personality, it’s already a miracle she hasn’t angered others to death.
Meanwhile, just on the other side of the door, Lu Yuanzheng clutched his chest, unable to move for quite a while.
He Yunzhen quickly raised her hand to pat his back and help him breathe, looking worriedly at her husband.
This Song Si was just too infuriating!
It’s bad enough she won, but did her inner thoughts have to insult him too?
After a long moment, Lu Yuanzheng finally managed to catch his breath and staggered toward the stairs.
He had to go buy a whole stack of Go study books immediately!
Not one second could be wasted!
The fact that he hadn’t been angered to death by his daughter-in-law was already a testament to his vast tolerance—and also to the benefits of regular exercise!
Otherwise, at his age, he might really not have made it through.
He Yunzhen hurried after him.
—
Inside the hospital room
Lu Yancheng looked at Song Si and casually picked up a Go book. “If you’re bored, read something.”
Song Si: “Okay.”
She earnestly began reading a Go problem book, speaking as she did, “Hubby, can you sharpen a pencil for me?”
Lu Yancheng: “Sure.”
He sat beside her sharpening the pencil, still a bit concerned about his father’s health.
There was one thing she said that was absolutely true—Old Lu had always been a proud man. Losing three rounds in a row, and being thoroughly crushed at that—it must’ve been a heavy blow.
But still…
His dark eyes swept over to Song Si.
She was focused intently on the Go problems.
Soon, Lu Yancheng finished sharpening the pencil and handed it to her.
Song Si: “Thanks.”
She gripped the pencil and got to solving the Go problems seriously.
[I feel like I’m not quite as proficient as I was before I reincarnated. Guess the original owner’s brain really had deteriorated—used all her mental energy chasing after that weakling Gu Chen?]
[Stay calm, just gotta do more problems and get my brain back in shape.]
Lu Yancheng watched as she scribbled rapidly, filling up several pages in no time.
This was her being “not proficient”?
Even though he’d never studied Go, he knew that the entry threshold was quite high. To excel in it, both talent and hard work were essential.
In fact, talent might be even more important than hard work!
He became curious—just how talented was she in this area?
As he was lost in thought, Doctor Lin Jiantong walked in.
Lu Yancheng stood up. “Uncle Lin.”
Lin Jiantong saw that Old Madam Lu was asleep and spoke softly, “The results from this morning’s checkup are in—nothing serious. The old lady said she wants to be discharged, and as long as she’s happy, she can leave anytime. I just came by to let you know.”
Lu Yancheng: “Okay, thank you, Uncle Lin.”
Song Si watched silently from the side.
[Doesn’t seem like I need to say anything, so I’ll just stay quiet and invisible. Nice!]
The next second, Lin Jiantong happened to glance at her and instantly froze, staring at her blankly.
Song Si: “?”
[What’s going on? Don’t tell me this doctor recognizes me?]
Beside her, Lu Yancheng furrowed his brow.
Uncle Lin can hear her inner thoughts too?
Before he could speak, he suddenly heard Uncle Lin’s emotionally charged voice—
“You… young lady, what’s your name?”
Song Si, puzzled, replied, “Song. Just one character—Si.”
“Song?”
Lin Jiantong murmured to himself like in a dream, “Yes… of course it would be Song… Song…”
He kept nodding and chuckling bitterly, staring at Song Si as though seeing someone else through her.
Song Si: “……”
[Is this… could he be the former lover of the original owner’s birth mother?]
Upon hearing her thoughts, Lu Yancheng snapped out of it and quickly spoke, “Uncle Lin, this is Si Si, my wife. I forgot to introduce you.”
Doctor Lin was momentarily stunned, lost in thought.
Yancheng’s wife?
He had been a family friend of the Lus for years. He couldn’t attend the wedding due to some prior commitments, but he knew a bit about Yancheng’s wife’s family background.
Wasn’t she from that Song family?
Then…
He stared at Song Si again, murmuring, “She looks… so much like her!”
Song Si softly asked, “You knew someone who looked like me?”
Lin Jiantong snapped back to reality, nodding. He couldn’t help but ask, “Child, are you your parents’ biological daughter?”
Song Si replied quietly, “No.”
That silenced Lin Jiantong for a long moment.
Could she really be Ayun’s child?
Lu Yancheng interjected, “Uncle Lin.”
Lin Jiantong looked between the two.
Lu Yancheng hadn’t expected that Uncle Lin might actually know her biological mother.
He glanced at Song Si, remembering that she had reincarnated, and paused.
In a sense, the person Uncle Lin knew might not really be her “mother,” right?
So, some things were left unsaid.
Maybe she didn’t want to find her biological parents at all?
Judging from her earlier inner thoughts, she didn’t seem to have much affection for the term “biological parents.”
“Uncle Lin, Si Si hasn’t thought about finding her biological parents for now.”
Lin Jiantong paused, then turned to Song Si. “Si Si, you really don’t want to find your birth mother?”
Song Si shook her head. “Not right now.”
Lin Jiantong let out a quiet “oh,” clearly disappointed, and couldn’t stop glancing at her again and again.
Finally, he said, “Si Si, if you ever do want to find your birth mother, just come to me anytime.”
Song Si politely replied, “Okay.”
[Find her for what? If she’s anything like my past-life birth parents, I’d rather not.]
[I already have a godfather and godmother now—who needs birth parents? Why not just stick with the golden ticket?]
Lu Yancheng: “……”
Only she could say something so unorthodox with such ease!
Lin Jiantong, not sure what to say, glanced at the book beside her.
It was opened, showing some Go diagrams…
“Si Si, you like Go?”
Song Si: “Mm-hmm.”
Lin Jiantong quickly said, “I have a friend at the Wancheng Go Club—want me to introduce you? You could learn more while you’re here, and once you’re back in the city, maybe even open a little Go studio for kids. That’d be great.”
Song Si was clearly interested. “Sure! Thank you, Uncle Lin.”
Lin Jiantong visibly brightened, then remembered something and turned to Lu Yancheng. “Yancheng, how’s your recovery?”
Lu Yancheng: “Fully recovered.”
Lin Jiantong nodded. “Yancheng, don’t push yourself so hard anymore. You’re not on your own now.”
Lu Yancheng: “Mm.”
Song Si, listening from the side, was curious. “Uncle Lin, how did he get injured?”
Lin Jiantong: “Oh, during the self-defense counterattack against India—”
Lu Yancheng coughed loudly. “Uncle Lin, Si Si is timid—she can’t handle those kinds of stories.”
