Chapter 17: Jiang Sheng, Please Help Me
Jiang Sheng watched the girl’s seemingly relaxed back, recalling his memories. He didn’t seem to have ever hit a woman.
He followed her, his voice low and deep, “I don’t hit women.”
Ning Qiutang walked ahead, her heart feeling like it was being pricked by countless needles when she heard his words.
“That’s great.” She replied perfunctorily.
Jiang Sheng frowned, then sneered dismissively. Why would he need to explain himself?
The two of them arrived at the school gate, one after the other.
Ning Qiutang finally breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her car. She got in without hesitation.
Jiang Sheng threw her backpack into the car, unexpectedly asking, “Does your foot still hurt?”
Ning Qiutang looked at him in surprise. This kind of concern and patience shouldn’t be directed at her. Had he taken the wrong medicine?
“It’s okay. Dr. Zhao’s medicine is very effective.”
Jiang Sheng chuckled in annoyance, “Do you think a psychiatrist would have medicine for sprains?”
This implied that the liniment was something he had bought specifically for her.
Ning Qiutang looked at him with suspicion, always feeling that Jiang Sheng had ulterior motives, was scheming, and wasn’t a good person.
“Oh, how much is it then? I’ll transfer it to you.”
She reached for her phone to find his contact.
She realized they weren’t even friends, which was quite embarrassing.
Jiang Sheng propped one hand on the car roof, while the other held his phone. His index finger and ring finger held the phone, his thumb operated it, and his middle finger tapped her business card QR code to add her as a friend.
The action was smooth and effortless, leaving Ning Qiutang stunned.
This was the advantage of having big hands and long fingers.
Ning Qiutang, putting these thoughts aside, casually asked, “How much was the lunchbox? Did you have breakfast?”
“I did.” Jiang Sheng was taciturn, his hand leaving the roof of her car and closing the door.
Ning Qiutang didn’t think he had eaten. He must be lying.
“I’m going then.”
She transferred him one thousand yuan.
The lunchbox cost her over eight hundred yuan, and the medicine was about two hundred.
Jiang Sheng watched her car leave the school gate, glanced at the transfer, and rejected it.
He sent a message: “Don’t transfer it, I don’t want it.”
“Consider it payment for your essay. The breakfast was delicious. Will there be more tomorrow?”
Ning Qiutang sat in the car, looking at the two messages from the black profile picture, and fell into deep thought.
The current Jiang Sheng was so normal it made her question her own sanity.
His changes were complementary to her own, leaving her feeling confused and a little helpless several times.
One step at a time. If his malice towards her decreased this time, could she avoid dying at his hands?
She sighed.
The driver Uncle Wang said, “Miss, your relationship with Master Jiang is getting better.”
Ning Qiutang said with a troubled brow, “Uncle Wang, do you think it’s a good relationship? It’s clearly him with ulterior motives.”
Wang smiled and said, “Young boys are most susceptible to puppy love. They’ll be very obvious when they like someone.”
Ning Qiutang didn’t know how to explain. How could Jiang Sheng be compared to most people? He wasn’t normal. His thinking wasn’t that of an Earthling. His worldview was completely different from the majority.
After returning home, she had just finished her test paper when she received a call from her younger cousin.
“Sister, you haven’t been to the races lately. There’s an event today, Sheng-ge is there too, aren’t you coming?”
“And let me tell you, there’s this guy named Shen Xingxing who’s so stupid. He actually wants to race me. He’s so delusional. Sister, come quick and watch me win this race.”
The young man on the other end of the phone seemed very excited. She could hear the noise in the background.
Ning Qiutang’s scalp tingled when she heard these words. She had almost forgotten about it.
Last time, my cousin and Shen Wanwan’s brother were racing on this very night. My cousin was sure to win, but his car had an accident near the finish line.
Shen Xingxing, who was chasing behind, crashed into him, causing him to lose the race and be paralyzed for life.
I was there, watching the whole thing unfold and deeply regretting not stopping my cousin from racing.
“Ning Xiaoyao, you are not allowed to race, do you hear me!”
Ning Xiaoyao refused to listen: “Sister, you don’t believe in my skills! I don’t even need to use my full power to deal with such a small character!”
Ning Qiutang was furious, scolding her disobedient brother: “Listen to me, this Shen Xingxing is no ordinary person, you can’t handle him. He has three years of street racing experience, he’s not a clueless newbie. I suspect he’s using dirty tricks, don’t…”
“Sis, you’re just worrying for nothing. This is our turf, why would we be afraid of him using dirty tricks? If you’re not coming, then don’t bother!”
Ning Xiaoyao hung up the phone.
Ning Qiutang immediately got up, changed clothes and went out.
Her mother, who had just returned with her husband, saw her rushing out and asked: “What’s wrong, darling?”
“Oh, nothing. They asked me to go out and play, I’ll be back by 12!”
Ning Qiutang called while instructing the driver to take her there.
Her mother told the driver to protect her daughter.
On the way, she called several times but couldn’t get through.
Right, Jiang Sheng, he’s also there.
Luckily, she added him as a friend today.
She hesitated for a while before deciding to try calling him.
The default ringtone rang for a long time.
At the racetrack.
Jiang Sheng, wearing a black baseball cap, sat in a quiet corner, his phone vibrating.
“Third brother, you have a call,” Chen Jinshi reminded him when he came back.
Jiang Sheng picked up the phone and glanced at it, a rose icon with a silly expression.
He answered slowly as the ringtone was about to end.
“Why is little rose not sleeping? Third brother will tell you bedtime stories.”
Ning Qiutang was caught off guard by his words, goosebumps rose all over her body, but at least he answered.
“Jiang Sheng, is my brother, Ning Xiaoyao, with you?”
Jiang Sheng’s voice was indifferent and cold: “He’s not.”
Ning Qiutang, desperate for his help, spoke softly: “Can you ask someone to find him? If he wants to race, please don’t let him.”
Jiang Sheng leisurely said: “What did you say when you got off school? Who am I to you? Why do you have the right to order me around?”
Such a petty, vengeful, bad guy!
Ning Qiutang realized that she would never get anything good from this vicious young master.
“I’m begging you, Jiang Sheng. I’m on my way now, please help me.”
Jiang Sheng snorted coldly, as if he was the kind of person who would be swayed by such tactics.
“I’ll give you half an hour.”
He hung up the phone.
He called Chen Jinshi over.
Chen Jinshi came over excitedly: “Third brother, what’s up?”
Jiang Sheng sat on the sofa with his legs spread wide, exuding a kingly aura as if he was sitting on a throne.
“Find Ning Xiaoyao, Ning Qiutang’s brother.”
“Ning Xiaoyao, Ning Qiutang’s brother? Did he do something to you?”
Chen Jinshi was curious, took out his phone and called his men to find him.
Jiang Sheng nodded slightly: “So many questions?”
Chen Jinshi quickly left.
When Ning Qiutang arrived, the entire racetrack was bustling with excitement. The event seemed to be reaching its climax, with people everywhere and fireworks flying in the air.
