Chapter 4: Breaking Off the Engagement
She couldn’t tell how strange his tone was, but she noticed the rare patience in the man’s voice.
Ning Qiutang had been pampered for over a decade, her skin as white as snow and water, making the swelling of her ankle look even more terrifying. Thankfully, she had endured it for an afternoon.
Her eyes were red and wet, unable to stop the tears falling. Her fingers gripped the chair cushion tightly, her nails digging into the cushion from the pain.
Jiang Sheng moved quickly, clearly accustomed to handling such situations.
The young man didn’t say anything, pouring the red flower oil onto his hand to help her ankle heal and reduce the bruising.
It was just a sprained ankle, nothing serious with the bones.
Outside the glass window, cicadas chirped incessantly, and a gentle breeze blew in, causing their hair to sway gently in the wind. The room was quiet, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Ning Qiutang forgot about the pain in her foot, her eyes wide with shock as she looked at the young man who was applying medicine to her, seemingly forgetting his cleanliness issues. How could he…
In her previous life, she had never received a single glance or a moment of patience from him. He was always the unattainable moon and clear wind on the mountain peak, keeping people at arm’s length, cold and heartless.
She felt uneasy, the cruel and indifferent young man made her nervous. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she quickly pulled her leg back as soon as he finished applying the medicine.
“Here are some disinfectant wipes. There’s a bathroom here, go wash your hands.”
Ning Qiutang didn’t dare look at him, she wanted to distance herself from him, but also wanted to get him away from her.
Jiang Sheng glanced coldly at the top of the girl’s head and stood up, saying inexplicably, “What, did I kill your whole family?”
Ning Qiutang’s small shoulders trembled, her lips pressed tightly together, refusing to answer.
In the past, she was the queen who demanded the stars and the moon, and she didn’t care about the Crown Prince, who was feared by the entire capital. She had been arrogant and reckless, using the engagement as an excuse to cling to him, forbidding any other men from approaching him, and possessively claiming him.
But it was all in vain. The inherently rebellious young man could not be confined by anyone, no one could own him. No matter what she did, she only earned his disgust and murderous intent.
Jiang Sheng turned and went to the bathroom, taking her rose-scented disinfectant wipes.
As soon as the shadow above her head disappeared, she immediately supported herself against the wall and went downstairs to go home.
Finally, she got into the car and urged the driver to leave quickly.
The driver had just finished a phone call: “Miss, you forgot your medicine. Dr. Zhao said he’ll send it over later.”
Ning Qiutang was annoyed for a moment before taking out her phone to play a game.
After a while, someone approached their car and naturally sat in the car.
Ning Qiutang’s eyes moved from her phone to the young man sitting beside her.
Her phone dropped into the car, and she stared blankly at the young man who had followed her, unable to speak.
Jiang Sheng threw the medicine on her leg: “Can I hitch a ride?”
The young man’s face was so captivating that it was like a scene out of an idol drama, no matter where he appeared. His naturally superior features were deep and handsome, with messy bangs slightly covering his eyes.
The driver started the car.
Ning Qiutang sat cautiously by the car door, picking up her phone.
She looked down at the medicine, it was the same as before.
Silence fell for a few minutes.
Ning Qiutang said calmly, “Jiang Sheng.”
“Hmm, what is it?” Jiang Sheng leaned back, closing his eyes to rest, his long black eyelashes casting a shadow.
Ning Qiutang felt strange and said to herself, “I know you hate me, and I don’t want to be a nuisance.”
“We were just a childhood engagement anyway. I’m taking back my foolish feelings, and I’ll ask Grandpa Jiang to break off our engagement.”
She looked serious, as if she had finally seen the light.
After she finished speaking, the car fell silent again.
Jiang Sheng acted as if he hadn’t heard anything, showing no reaction at all.
The driver kept glancing back. It was scorching hot, why was it suddenly so cold?
The air conditioner wasn’t even set that low.
Ning Qiutang furrowed her brows slightly, looking at the young man who seemed to be asleep with his eyes closed.
As she looked, her heart pounded, her fingers tightened, her breath quickened, and she couldn’t tear her gaze away.
Jiang Sheng tilted his head, revealing his high nose bridge and slightly red thin lips. His summer school uniform was a modified polo shirt, clearly showing his prominent Adam’s apple and a hint of collarbone. The male beauty was alluring, coupled with his unparalleled youthful vigor, he was so handsome that it made people feel inferior, making everything around him seem dull.
Ning Qiutang was momentarily dazed. When the arrogant young prince killed someone, would he remember that when he was a child, he used to say that no one could bully you?
But the one who bullied her the most was himself.
She lowered her eyes and shed tears, angry at herself for being spineless and twisted, unable to hate him, unable to stop her heart from fluttering.
What kind of ultimate love-brained idiot was she?
The car arrived at the Central Plaza.
Ning Qiutang quickly turned her head, facing the young man with the back of her head.
Jiang Sheng opened his eyes and said, “Thank you, Uncle Wang.”
Ning Qiutang heard the door closing and turned back to glare at him. Why didn’t he thank her? This car was clearly hers.
She wiped away her tears.
Jiang Sheng walked towards the club, his mind filled with the words Ning Qiutang had said in the car.
She really wanted to break off the engagement.
Heh, naive.
There weren’t many people at the Shangyu Club, only those like them, young masters.
When Jiang Sheng arrived, Chen Jinsi was crying and wailing.
“Brother Sheng, come and save me!”
Jiang Sheng walked past without expression, grabbing a bottle of Coke and whiskey from the bar counter.
Zhao Linru had searched Chen Xiao Ye for everything, even the pack of cigarettes in his pocket.
“Zhao Linru, you’re born to be a thief! You even steal this!” Chen Jinsi was filled with grief, now he was penniless.
Li Yuchen sat next to Jiang Sheng, “Going abroad after graduation?”
Jiang Sheng took a sip of his whiskey and coke, his eyes dark and turbulent, like a raging sea ready to unleash a storm.
“Not enough fun in the country, have to go abroad to play.”
“Playing what in the country? You can’t do anything, if your old man knew what you did on Wall Street, you think he wouldn’t break your legs?”
Li Yuchen possessed all the characteristics of a rich kid, indulging in pleasure, being fickle and promiscuous, with more money than he could spend, his daily expectation was to have new entertainment and games.
Chen Jinsi and Zhao Linru came over and sat down.
“Then you guess, if Brother Sheng dared to go abroad to play, would his old man dismember him?”
Zhao Linru sat with his legs crossed, nonchalantly saying, “That’s exaggerating, the Jiang family patriarch would have to sprinkle our third brother’s ashes.”
The Jiang family, a century-old dynasty, there was no good-for-nothing descendant who stayed abroad, their parents were even more outstanding, excelling in military, politics, and business, attracting talented individuals in every field.
The grandchildren, Jiang Sheng’s two older brothers, one joined the military and followed their father, the other entered politics and followed their mother, all of them were genuine national talents.
If Jiang Sheng collapsed, dared to go abroad to eat, drink, and have fun, causing shame, he would have a ticket to the training camp tomorrow.
Jiang Sheng’s deep, bottomless eyes flashed with a hint of cruel excitement, “I have a surprise for everyone for graduation.”
The others were equally excited.
“What?”
“Ten million each, join the fund.” The young man’s eyes sparkled, his spirit was high, the inherent wickedness in his bones was not concealed in the slightest.
