Chapter 6: Is Jiang Sheng Mine Too?
Jiang Sheng continued to sleep.
Ning Qiutang took a few more glances at him. If he woke up and knew who called him, he might regret it to death.
But the next second, her phone rang.
Ning Qiutang saw an unknown number and was about to answer it. The formidable presence in the car, with a look of annoyance, opened his eyes. His fierce gaze fell on her face, perfectly embodying ruthlessness and terror.
“Hang up,” he commanded directly.
Ning Qiutang frowned. What if it was important?
Under his murderous gaze, she answered the call.
“Ning Qiutang, is Jiang Sheng with you?”
It was Shen Wanwan’s voice.
Ning Qiutang regretted it. Why was this woman calling her? But because of their relationship, she handed the phone over.
“It’s Shen Wanwan.”
Jiang Sheng glanced at the phone.
Shen Wanwan’s voice came through: “Jiang Sheng, where are you? Come help me.”
“You’re in a hurry to reincarnate? I’ll have someone send you a coffin.”
Jiang Sheng hung up the phone and blocked the number when it called again.
Ning Qiutang was shocked again. Wasn’t Shen Wanwan his girlfriend?
This treatment was worse than the big white dog Jiang Sheng kept.
“Don’t throw my phone!” She said immediately when she saw Jiang Sheng holding her phone and not giving it back.
Jiang Sheng snorted and returned her broken phone.
Ning Qiutang really found it strange but didn’t ask further.
They arrived at the Jiang residence.
They went inside one after another.
Grandma Jiang was delighted to see them return. She hurried to help Ning Qiutang, who had been through a lot, to sit down.
“Xiao Haitang, you must be tired. Come sit down and rest.”
“Grandma, I’m fine.” Ning Qiutang was very well-behaved. In fact, she was always a well-behaved and sensible girl. However, because of Jiang Sheng’s dislike for good girls, she had become someone she didn’t recognize.
She learned to dress and put on makeup like those sexy beauties, learned to be seductive and alluring, like a passionate rose, painstakingly dyeing her pure white with worldly colors.
When she finally learned to be a glamorous, long-legged beauty, the man turned around and fell for a pure white gardenia, a simple and beautiful good girl. So he just disliked her, not good girls.
Now she was still that rose, only more beautiful and alluring. She was born to be looked up to, not to look up to others.
Grandma Jiang looked at her grandson with reproach: “Jiang Sheng, you’ve grown up, and you’re out all night. Do you know how angry your grandpa is?”
Jiang Sheng took a sip of tea, his tone indifferent: “No one died. I’m eighteen, not eight. Can you stop monitoring me?”
Grandma Jiang patted him: “You’re eighteen? You’re nineteen!”
“If you don’t get into Beijing University this year, your grandpa will beat you to death with a big stick.”
Jiang Sheng didn’t care, arrogantly and defiantly saying: “Then I’ll burn some paper money for myself in advance and continue to be a rich second-generation.”
Ning Qiutang held back her laughter and quickly took a sip of tea to suppress it. This guy was really unruly.
Grandma Jiang pinched his ear: “What are you talking about? You’re really spoiled. Go wash up quickly, don’t let your grandpa see you all dirty.”
Jiang Sheng left, his back defiant, not bowing to anyone.
“Miss Ning, the old master is calling for you.”
The old butler came to call her.
Grandma Jiang said: “Old man, watch your words. Don’t scare my future granddaughter-in-law.”
The old butler nodded repeatedly.
Ning Qiutang sighed, she wouldn’t be that anymore.
In the backyard.
Old Master Jiang sat behind a Go board, playing against himself. A large ginkgo tree stood above, casting a shade of green. A Beijing opera broadcast played nearby.
“Come, sit.” The old man motioned for her to continue playing.
Ning Qiutang sat down, glancing at the chessboard. The game had reached a fierce climax. The white pieces were deeply surrounded, almost in a desperate situation.
She pondered for a moment, quickly finding a way out. On the checkered board, she created a new chance for survival.
The old and young played in silence.
A gentle breeze rustled through the leaves, dropping them nearby.
Soon, the white pieces were again cornered, this time with no hope of escape.
“Grandpa, I…” Ning Qiutang was about to admit defeat.
But another hand, holding a piece, crossed her line of sight, finding a perfect escape point.
Old Master Jiang stared at Jiang Sheng, his mustache bristling, “You know how to play.”
“You taught me well.” Jiang Sheng, now in casual clothes, stood behind Ning Qiutang, quickly placing a piece, seemingly without thinking.
In less than a minute, the black pieces’ dominant position was broken. The white pieces were revived, and within three minutes, they made a comeback and won.
Old Master Jiang wanted to take back his move, “Do you know what respect for elders and love for the young means? You little rascal, you want to die today?”
“Look, a person who can’t even control their own fate, how can they deserve to win?”
Jiang Sheng’s slender, jade-like hand decisively settled the game, without any room for negotiation.
The young man’s aura was incredibly strong, even surpassing the cunning old man who controlled the entire Jiang family.
It was truly a case of the younger generation surpassing the older, a new wave pushing forward the old.
That’s why his name was Jiang Sheng.
Ning Qiutang’s heart felt like it was being tightly squeezed. How could she possibly deserve to like him?
This thought lingered in her mind. She turned to look at the young man standing behind her, her fingernails digging into her palm, a mixture of pain and despair.
Her eyes were red and moist, tears silently sliding down her cheeks.
Old Master Jiang’s brows furrowed, “Why are you crying when you won?”
Jiang Sheng lowered his gaze upon hearing this, his cold eyes meeting hers, like spring water warming the frozen snow.
“I… I just… Grandpa, actually…”
Old Master Jiang stood up and said, “You two had a fight? Talk it out properly, I won’t discipline this stinky boy today.”
“Jiang Sheng, you better make this girl happy, or else you’ll be punished.”
Ning Qiutang’s words about breaking off the engagement were interrupted.
Jiang Sheng sat opposite her and personally brewed a pot of tea.
Ning Qiutang tried to calm down, her long eyelashes adorned with crystal-clear teardrops, making her look pitifully charming.
“You changed your tactics, didn’t you?” Jiang Sheng said calmly.
Ning Qiutang felt choked up. He thought she was still trying to seduce him, believing that if the fiery red rose didn’t work, she would use the white lotus or green tea tactics to get him?
She explained in a choked voice, “I said… I said I wanted to break off the engagement… I don’t like you anymore!”
Jiang Sheng mocked, “Then why are you crying?”
“Ning Qiutang, don’t be too greedy. You want everything, you want everything to be yours.”
“Am I, Jiang Sheng, yours too?”
Ning Qiutang stood up angrily, suppressing the urge to smash the hard chessboard against him.
“Who! Wants! You!”
Angry, she cried even harder, unable to speak properly after being bullied by him. She turned to leave.
Jiang Sheng played with the black chess piece in his hand, staring at her limping back, “You wanted me for eighteen years, and suddenly you don’t want me anymore. Ms. Ning, do you really think you can do whatever you want?”
Ning Qiutang turned around, stunned, looking into his unfathomable eyes. She felt like a piece of driftwood clinging to a root in the vast ocean, with nowhere to go.
“What do you mean?”
Jiang Sheng said calmly, “Two families marrying, a contract made in one hall. This is a choice made by the families, not you and me.”
