Her Enchanting Fragrance
Her Enchanting Fragrance Chapter 26.1

When Si Hang returned to his office, his subordinate came in to report the results of the recent inquiries.

After receiving the information about the three individuals yesterday afternoon, the officers in charge of external contacts called them in for questioning.

Depending on each person’s situation, the agreed times and places were different.

Jiang Tianchen, who was abroad and originally scheduled to return tomorrow, agreed to cooperate actively and promised to return today in advance.

Lu Yuze, who was working in H City in a neighboring province, happened to be on a business trip in Yi Province and agreed to come to the police station this morning to give a statement after receiving the call.

Only He Yue was left, and since he was currently the most suspicious, Si Hang planned to visit his company personally later.

“As for Lu Yuze, it appears he has no suspicion for now,” said the officer who had just interviewed Lu Yuze along with Xie Kui. “From his statement, it’s clear he had no reason or motive to harm Zhuang Zi.”

During the interview, whenever Lu Yuze spoke about Zhuang Zi, his expressions and tone revealed his regret and guilt. Each time he mentioned her name, his brows furrowed in pain.

He recounted that he met Zhuang Zi when he was 21 years old. That year, Zhuang Zi had just graduated from university and started working at her family’s company, Ruihong Group. At the time, he was an intern there as a fourth-year student, and they fell in love at first sight.

Zhuang Zi was a year older than him, more considerate and mature in everything she did. She was also very smart, excelling both at work and in life, always helping him greatly.

At that time, he had just graduated, had no stable job, and was still finding his way. Zhuang Zi even offered all her savings to support his startup.

She was such a devoted woman, yet unfortunately, he didn’t cherish her properly in the end.

Because she was the boss’s daughter, a noble young lady, he, coming from an ordinary family, felt unworthy of her. Her excellence made him feel even more inferior in her presence.

Perhaps it was his pride and competitive spirit that misled him, causing him to make foolish mistakes later on.

He loved her deeply. To him, Zhuang Zi was nearly perfect.

But because she was so great, many executives in the company admired her as well.

He couldn’t understand why she, having nothing, would choose him. Even when everyone around her opposed their relationship, she still didn’t break up with him.

While feeling fortunate, he also felt an invisible pressure weighing on his shoulders.

Zhuang Zi subtly reminded him to work hard and not let her down.

During that time, he felt suffocated by the pressure, facing rivals stronger than him and various setbacks at work.

So, he proposed living together with Zhuang Zi.

He wanted to fully possess her, so that even if external threats loomed, he would feel secure.

Unexpectedly, the woman he believed loved him to the bone, firmly rejected his request.

This outcome was undoubtedly a blow to him.

He was confused. She was willing to use all her savings to support his separate startup, a woman who gave so much for him. How could he ever let her down? He thought that once his career was successful and he could guarantee her the best future, he would propose to her at the right time. So, living together was just a matter of time. Why hesitate and refuse?

It took him a long time to understand and accept this.

However, by then, several years had passed since they broke up.

The woman who was willing to give him everything would never look back, because she was now engaged to another wealthy man, Jiang Tianchen.

Reflecting on his past rashness and mistakes, he felt nothing but layers of regret.

He blamed himself for being too young and foolish. Because she didn’t want to give herself to him, he felt she didn’t trust him enough. He was terrified she would eventually leave him for another man due to his social background.

That Valentine’s Day, he knew she waited for him all night in the cold snow at the mall entrance.

But he didn’t go.

To this day, he still didn’t know that Zhuang Zi had already prepared herself mentally that night.

It was her first Valentine’s Day, and she thought if he came and gave her a proper commitment, she would agree that night.

She wasn’t a conservative woman; she just hoped the other person would show sincerity, giving her the courage to move forward without hesitation. It was both a principle and a bottom line.

However, things often don’t go as planned.

He Yue failed, and Lu Yuze even more so.

That night, she was so cold she became numb. After returning home, she called Lu Yuze to break up with him. He neither apologized nor tried to keep her.

What was even more heartbreaking was that the next day, he resigned from Ruihong Group, and she never saw or heard from him again.

That night, her heart died.

When Zhuang Zi pushed open the door to the office, Si Hang was leaning back in his chair, staring blankly out the window.

She walked up to his desk and sat down, speaking directly, “I’m here to talk to you about He Yue.”

Si Hang continued to look out the window, giving a slight “hmm” in response.

Zhuang Zi began her account.

A few minutes later, when she finished, he was still gazing out the window, his side profile cold, lost in thought.

“That’s it,” Zhuang Zi said, looking at him. “I don’t know if it could be because of this.”

He continued to stare out the window for a few more seconds before slowly snapping back to reality. He turned his gaze to her face.

Zhuang Zi looked at him, waiting for him to speak.

After a few seconds, he said, “You should go back.”
