After finishing the questioning of He Yue, Si Hang drove Xiao Zhang directly to his own home.
The CBD was not far from the Bojiang Apartments. He called Aunt Qin to let her know he’d be home for lunch.
It was Xiao Zhang’s first time at Si Hang’s place. As soon as he entered, he praised the exquisite decor and commented on the great orientation of the apartment. Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, he marveled at the breathtaking view of the city.
Zhuang Zi brought water for the two men. Xiao Zhang said, “Miss Zhuang, we just questioned He Yue.”
“What was the result?” She sat down beside them.
“He said his company organized a supplier meeting at the hotel that day. He was responsible for arranging accommodations for the partners and stayed there that night,” Xiao Zhang explained. “Although no one can prove he didn’t leave the hotel that night, we can check the surveillance footage.”
After finishing, Xiao Zhang put down his teacup and stood up, “I’ll go to the bathroom first.”
Once Xiao Zhang left, Zhuang Zi turned to Si Hang and asked curiously, “Shouldn’t there be a woman who can vouch for him?”
“What woman?”
Zhuang Zi recounted the situation, “When I saw him at the hotel that day, there was a pregnant woman with him. She should be his wife, right?”
She remembered him standing by the window on the phone while the woman beside him kept tugging at his sleeve and belt, urging him along. Such intimate behavior was surely indicative of a close relationship.
Si Hang thought for a moment, seeming to understand something.
Zhuang Zi found it odd, “If he didn’t leave, wouldn’t that woman vouch for him?”
Si Hang looked at her, pausing, and then raised an eyebrow meaningfully, “That’s interesting.”
“Hmm?”
“We met his wife today,” he said, putting down his glass. “She’s not pregnant.”
Zhuang Zi was momentarily stunned. After a brief consideration, she instantly understood.
If the pregnant woman wasn’t He Yue’s wife, it meant He Yue was having an affair and had another woman outside, who was pregnant.
The two exchanged a knowing look.
With a faint smile and a playful tone, Si Hang remarked, “Isn’t that interesting?”
Zhuang Zi glanced at him, already guessing what he was thinking.
Si Hang said calmly, “You should feel fortunate.”
For some reason, Zhuang Zi suddenly felt uncomfortable upon learning this. She wasn’t sure if she was disgusted by men’s inherent flaws or disappointed in her own bad luck in repeatedly encountering unreliable men, even though these were all in the past.
“Fortunate for what? Aren’t all men fickle?”
Take He Yue, for example. Although they had differing values regarding relationships, she never considered him a scumbag. At the very least, he was honest and didn’t toy with women’s emotions. Even if he wasn’t marrying for love, he seemed like a responsible man who wouldn’t cheat or betray, and valued family.
But now, looking back…
Her sister was indeed wiser and more discerning, able to see through a man’s true nature at a glance.
She wondered if she had overestimated men’s nature or if she was just incredibly unlucky.
Si Hang clearly had an issue with her statement, “Don’t negate everyone just because you haven’t met the right one.”
Zhuang Zi looked at him and bluntly asked, “Trying to give yourself a pat on the back?”
Unperturbed, Si Hang calmly responded, “You haven’t met the right one because of your poor judgment. I don’t need to toot my own horn; any perceptive woman can see my worth.”
Zhuang Zi retorted, “But you’re still single, aren’t you?”
Unbothered and supremely confident, he replied, “Whoever ends up with me can rest assured. To give this opportunity to a deserving woman, I must choose carefully.”
“……….”
This man, just because he’s a bit attractive, is ridiculously narcissistic.
