Chapter 50
Shang Yan rarely found himself doubting life.
After being stunned for a few seconds, he finally realized the reason behind Su Miao Miao’s words.
“She’s not…”
Shang Yan stopped himself and corrected, “I don’t have any ex-girlfriends, not a single one.”
….
The will to survive was indeed strong.
Qi Wenyue and Liao Lanxin exchanged a knowing glance behind the two.
Su Miao Miao: “Oh.”
Her voice remained as calm as when she asked the question, showing no fluctuation in tone or change in emotion.
Shang Yan had a headache.
After a few more seconds of silence, he sighed helplessly and admitted, “She’s my sister.”
The tip of the girl’s pen paused for a moment.
“Is that so.”
Shang Yan: “……”
Shang Yan squinted slightly, leaned down, and leaned beside the girl, looking up at her from below.
Her stark black-and-white pupils glanced at him indifferently, devoid of emotion.
Shang Yan: “A few days ago in the computer group, you swore to me that you wouldn’t doubt me.”
Su Miao Miao: “The doubt I mentioned then is different from this one…”
As she raised her head to retort, her eyes met Shang Yan’s gaze, and she realized she had been tricked.
Releasing the tension in her tone, Su Miao Miao lowered her head again, her expression returning to calm.
“I believe in you.”
Her voice was soft.
Shang Yan sighed.
Who taught this kid to act like this?
“Do you have your phone with you?”
Su Miao Miao was startled but nodded.
Shang Yan glanced down.
“Is it on you?”
“…Yeah..”
Su Miao Miao thought he might have something urgent to attend to. Knowing he inexplicably didn’t usually carry his phone, she temporarily put aside her concerns and reached to fetch it for him.
But as soon as she set down her pen and reached out, her wrist suddenly tightened, and she was pulled up from her chair.
Before Su Miao Miao could react, Shang Yan had already pulled her out of the classroom.
Under the astonished and silent gaze of the whole class, Su Miao Miao’s face turned red. She lowered her voice and tried to pull back the boy who was leading the way in front.
“Shang Yan… We’re still in self-study class… Why are you pulling me out?”
“…”
But Su Miao Miao couldn’t resist Shang Yan. As her voice faded, she found herself led by the boy out into the corridor outside the classroom.
The corridor was quiet, with the students in the classroom peeking their heads out, eager to hear what the two were saying.
After standing still for two seconds, Shang Yan continued to lead Su Miao Miao up to the rooftop.
Coincidentally, the two students they had encountered on the rooftop earlier were just coming down the stairs. As they passed each other, the two students glanced subtly at the girl Shang Yan was pulling behind him.
As they reached the upper section of the Z-shaped staircase, Su Miao Miao and Shang Yan could still faintly hear the voices of the two students:
“Is that Shang Yan?”
“Yeah.”
“Wow… Impressive… In such a short time, he’s brought up two completely different girls?”
“We can’t envy him. Let’s not think about it.”
“…”
Shang Yan: “…………”
He glanced back, and indeed, the girl’s beautiful face was even more expressionless.
Seemingly sensing his gaze, the girl lazily lifted her eyelids and glanced at him lightly.
It felt like being brushed by a blade.
Shang Yan sighed deeply.
He quickened his pace and led the girl behind the door to the rooftop.
The sky was vast and clear, with open space in all directions.
The wind carried the golden sunlight, swaying the shadows in his eyes, and bringing a hint of autumn chill.
Su Miao Miao shivered lightly.
Originally unprepared, he naturally didn’t think to bring a jacket. When Shang Yan glanced down and saw the girl’s pale face, he couldn’t help but curse himself for his carelessness.
He released the girl’s wrist and lifted his hand to remove his school uniform jacket, then draped it over the girl.
Wrapped in the jacket with a temperature both unfamiliar and familiar, Su Miao Miao raised her eyes slightly in astonishment.
The boy himself was only wearing a thin undershirt, his jacket also left downstairs in the classroom.
Su Miao Miao’s heart tightened, and a fine line formed between her brows.
“Don’t give it to me, you’ll catch a cold.”
She reached out to untangle herself but found her hands enveloped together in his palm as he closed the collar.
Shang Yan glanced down at her, smiling faintly.
“If I catch a cold, it’s my own fault, isn’t it?”
Su Miao Miao disagreed, her brows furrowing even tighter.
Shang Yan continued, “Didn’t you bring your phone? Take it out and make a call.”
“…Call who?” Su Miao Miao asked curiously as she complied.
“The person who called your phone at the hospital last time looking for me. I saved that number for you,” he explained.
Su Miao Miao scrolled through her contacts until she found the name “Bo Yi.” She dialed the number and handed the phone to Shang Yan.
Shang Yan took it, only pressing the speakerphone button.
After a short while, the call connected.
There was a moment of hesitation from the other end.
“Su Miao Miao… classmate?” a voice asked.
Shang Yan chuckled. “Who’s your classmate? You’re not that young anymore, can’t you have a little dignity?”
Bo Yi: “…”
Bo Yi: “I should’ve known it was you, you old dog.”
Shang Yan: “Watch your language, I still have the speakerphone on.”
Bo Yi: “…Heh. What’s up, did your sister give you a hard time and you came to me to vent?”
Shang Yan: “Shang Xian’s rank isn’t even high enough to handle you. Enough chatter, just send me a photo of you and her together.”
Bo Yi: “?”
Bo Yi: “Why should I send you a photo? Are you up to something again?”
Shang Yan: “…”
Pinching his brow, Shang Yan reluctantly explained, “Last year, Shang Xian visited our school. They thought she was my ex-girlfriend, and even my family got the wrong idea.”
After a few seconds of silence from the other end, Bo Yi suddenly burst into relieved laughter.
“Miao Miao, you’re right there listening, aren’t you? Don’t believe this old dog’s words. Shang Xian is indeed his ex-girlfriend, they’re not siblings, they have no blood relation. Shang Yan has a long history of not being faithful, with all sorts of messy relationships—bite him hard! So he doesn’t go around messing with other people’s feelings again!”
Su Miao Miao: “…”
Shang Yan: “…”
Having heard this, Su Miao Miao naturally realized that the Shang Xian who visited their class before was indeed Shang Yan’s sister, and seemingly the lover of the person on the phone.
She looked at Shang Yan with some amusement.
The air fell silent for a few seconds.
Shang Yan narrowed his eyes slightly, his voice carrying a calm yet dangerous undertone.
“There’s a guy in our class asking for Shang Xian’s contact information. I wasn’t planning to give it, but since you said that, I think it’s necessary for me to go back and expand my ‘ex-girlfriend’s’ contact list.”
Bo Yi: “…”
Instantly intimidated.
Bo Yi: “I’ll send it, I’ll send it right away.”
The call ended, and moments later, the phone vibrated with a multimedia message containing a photo.
As Shang Yan opened it, he explained to Su Miao Miao: “Shang Xian and Bo Yi, the one who called you last time. They’ve been in a relationship for many years, and marriage is just a matter of time.”
Su Miao Miao looked over curiously.
Bo Yi sent it quickly, evidently afraid that Shang Yan, being irresponsible, would immediately give Shang Xian’s contact information to the guy in their class.
The photo seemed to be casually selected from the album, with an angle that resembled a candid shot taken from outside a window. Through the glass, Bo Yi was half-kneeling next to Shang Xian on the sofa in her office, carefully helping her take off her high heels, which she had fallen asleep wearing.
As Shang Yan looked at it, his gaze softened slightly, but he didn’t let up with his words, lightly mocking.
“Wife, servant.”
Su Miao Miao looked at it for a few seconds before softly saying, “He must really like your sister, huh?”
“…”
Recalling the tumultuous love history between the two, Shang Yan couldn’t help but smirk.
“Yeah.”
“…Shang Xian is eight years older than me. When they were dating, I had just returned to China for middle school. There was a time when, because of Bo Yi, I always suspected that my sister was some kind of expert in Miao witchcraft reincarnated—nothing else could explain Bo Yi’s condition besides being enchanted.”
Su Miao Miao couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle.
Shang Yan seemed to remember something, his gaze pausing on the girl draped in his school uniform jacket.
A moment later, he smirked self-deprecatingly, “But now, I don’t doubt it anymore.”
Su Miao Miao was taken aback, raising her eyes.
“Hmm?”
Shang Yan chuckled softly, turning to the side.
His hands were in his pockets, his voice lazy from the sun’s warmth.
“Seems like they’ve all been enchanted, not just him. Can’t be… all of them are capable of ‘bewitching.'”
Su Miao Miao listened, feeling even more puzzled.
But Shang Yan didn’t elaborate further. Instead, he turned back and steered the conversation back to its original track.
“I admit, back in our freshman year, I didn’t deny the thing between Shang Xian and Shu Wei… Because denying it would only lead to more trouble.”
Shang Yan sighed.
He bent down, propping himself up on his knees as he lowered himself in front of the girl.
“Back then, I didn’t care, didn’t care how others saw or talked about it. But if I had known what would happen today, if I had known I would meet you…”
At this point, Shang Yan couldn’t help but curl his lips.
He laughed bitterly.
“I definitely wouldn’t have made that choice… I should have drawn clear boundaries from the beginning.”
Su Miao Miao blushed under his gaze.
After a few seconds, she nodded slowly. “I understand.”
“…”
As he watched the rosy blush creeping onto the girl’s cheeks, Shang Yan’s gaze deepened.
Suddenly, he felt a bit reluctant to act like himself.
Shang Yan’s dark eyes narrowed slightly.
After standing still for a moment, he leaned forward, his voice reaching the girl’s ear.
“But besides that, I’m squeaky clean, I assure you.”
Su Miao Miao: “?”
Shang Yan chuckled softly and stood up.
“Completely intact, ready for you to unravel at any time.”
