Hey, the Male God seems to be teasing me!
Hey, the Male God seems to be teasing me Chapter 1: Crossed path again

By six in the evening, ten hours had passed.

After typing the final period, Ji Ranyou finally exited the locked writing software that had kept her focused on hitting twenty thousand words. Stretching with a deep breath, she opened Thunder (Xunlei), continuing to watch Chungking Express while simultaneously agonizing over her food delivery choices on Meituan.

Returning to campus a week early to meet a publishing deadline, Ji Ranyou’s food delivery app had already established a ranking of her frequent orders. Her newfound favorite, Nick Bear, was selected again, and she was now debating… Should she get lasagna? But that might be too dry—maybe a cup of Ceylon tea to wash it down? Main course settled, should she add an Orleans-style chicken wing as a side? Her stomach growled. Maybe two? But would that be too much for dinner? Too heavy?

Notes for the order:
Please deliver as quickly as possible!! It must arrive before 7 PM!! I have urgent plans later!! Thank you!!

After staring at the order for two more seconds, Ji Ranyou backed out to the restaurant’s menu and, despite her inner hesitation, silently increased the number of Orleans wings from two to three.

Click. Confirm. Order submitted.

Western University had a long summer break, so by the time third-year students returned, it was already late September.

The lingering heat of the season had passed in City C, and the fluctuating temperatures between autumn and summer made mornings and evenings unpredictable.

Ji Ranyou, accustomed to wearing a nightdress without a bra, didn’t bother changing just to go downstairs. Swiping her campus card to exit the dorm, she felt the cool evening breeze rushing in, wrapping her coat—long enough to reach her calves—tightly around herself as she jogged toward the delivery driver near the flower bed, where a conspicuous red box marked his spot.

Last four digits, 8223. Thanks.

Last four digits, 8233. Thanks.

A soft female voice overlapped with a calm male tone. The delivery guy chuckled, “You two have similar numbers.”

Ji Ranyou turned her head—just as he lowered his gaze.

Sunlight filtered through the sparse branches of the plane trees, scattering dappled shadows across the ground.

The interplay of light and shadow traced elegant lines, outlining his tall and slender figure. His composed and refined facial features, a crisp white shirt, and long legs exuded a quiet, distant aura.

He stood there with his hands in his pockets, exuding a serene and aloof presence—

Silent, yet illuminating the entire dusky evening.

The delivery guy handed over a container of mashed potatoes. “Handsome guy, hold on a sec—there’s another order, let me grab the girl’s food too… One lasagna, one Ceylon tea, one, two, three Orleans chicken wings.”

That’s enough for four people.” Feeling inexplicably self-conscious, Ji Ranyou muttered under her breath.

Definitely for your whole dorm! How could someone as small as you eat all that?” The delivery guy laughed, bundling the five plastic bags together and stuffing the receipt into Ji Ranyou’s hand. “Don’t forget to leave a five-star review! Handsome guy, check which receipt is yours—I have other orders to deliver.”

Wait…

With her left hand fully occupied, Ji Ranyou struggled to pull out her Ceylon tea with her right. “Hey, can you check which one is yours?”

Need help?” The male voice, calm and pleasant, made Ji Ranyou’s ears tingle.

N-no, no, no—ah!”

His slender fingers suddenly came into view, lightly pinching the white receipt. His knuckles were long and well-defined, momentarily making Ji Ranyou forget everything.

Clatter. Crash.

Her phone and keys tumbled to the ground, rolling away.

She wasn’t even concerned about her barely-new iPhone hitting the pavement. Instead, her immediate reaction was to protect her right hand.

Thank goodness! Thank goodness my food is safe. Otherwise—

Mid-sentence, she looked up and met his stunned gaze. Realizing what she had just done, her already warm ears grew even hotter.

Awkwardly smiling, Ji Ranyou quickly scooped up her phone and keys, hastily shoving the receipt into his hand before turning to leave. Just as she was about to walk away, the tea she had hooked onto her pinky slipped. She tried to catch it—

Too late.

Splat!

The lukewarm liquid splashed across his hand and soaked his shirt and pants.

Dark stains spread messily, trickling down onto the pavement.

Oh my god.

This was… the definition of backfiring spectacularly.

Ji Ranyou stood frozen for several seconds, staring at the chaotic scene. Then, scrambling through her pocket, she pulled out a handful of tissues, apologizing as she hurriedly dabbed at the spills.

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to—really, I—your clothes—

As she spoke, her gaze naturally lifted to meet his. Her fingertips accidentally brushed his palm—warm skin against skin.

A tiny jolt of electricity ran through her, just as she locked eyes with his deep, dark gaze.

“It’s fine,” he said, not taking the tissues.

Huh?” Ji Ranyou blinked. Then, quickly regaining her senses, she stammered, “But your shirt—you should try washing it. If the stains don’t come out, I can compensate—

No need” he replied simply.

For some reason, the clarity of his presence left Ji Ranyou feeling even more flustered.

Biting her lip, she ducked her head and shoved the tissues into his hand in one swift motion before hastily making her escape.

As she rushed upstairs, the cool night air brushing against her burning cheeks, a thought flickered through his mind—

The pale legs, the slightly red eyes and cheeks, the fluffy long-eared coat bouncing up the stairs… like a clumsy rabbit?

She had just been worried about spilling food, yet now she looked a little upset?

His gaze fell on the order slip, where the words “ASAP,” “ASAP,” and “Urgent plans later” were emphasized. He blinked, recalling the brief glimpse he had caught earlier—

Going out later? Wearing a nightdress?

As he absentmindedly patted the damp tea stains on his shirt, a faint smirk tugged at his lips.

Meanwhile, on the sixth floor, Ji Ranyou was still in a daze.

Had she been so socially awkward from staying indoors too much? Is that why she stuttered, embarrassed herself, and—

The image of his ink-brushed, elegant brows resurfaced in her mind. Her rapid heartbeats nearly drowned out the crunch of her food.

Whoa!!

Her roommate, Qin Dai, burst into the dorm, slamming the door open.

You think Takeshi Kaneshiro looks particularly youthful here too, right?” Ji Ranyou took out an earbud and sipped her soup. “Even Tony Leung—so much fresh, brooding energy—Wait, why are you staring at my order slip?

Wait… THIS is YOUR order slip?!

Qin Dai held up the receipt with an expression of pure horror.

This belongs to GU CHEN! GU CHEN!! When did you get involved with the campus heartthrob again?!

Again?

She and Gu Chen… were “involved”… again?

Staring at the neatly written name on the receipt, Ji Ranyou’s mind blanked out before it slowly dawned on her—

This was indeed the second time their names had been linked together.
