I didn’t give him another glance, shook off the security guard’s hand, and picked up the phone that had fallen on the ground.
“Where done, He Jinsheng.”
When I drove away, He Jinsheng ran up to block me: “What do you mean, ‘done’? You better explain yourself.”
I rolled up the window, stepped on the gas, and could no longer hear his voice.
My mind kept replaying everything that happened at the bar.
I only pulled over when I reached an empty road. Gripping the steering wheel, I let out a low growl.
At the peak of my popularity, I risked ruining my career to be with him. For someone in the entertainment industry like me, this was a high-stakes gamble. From the moment I fell for He Jinsheng, I entered the game, betting everything on him.
I bet that our relationship wouldn’t make the public eye before I left the industry.
I bet that I wasn’t wrong about He Jinsheng.
I bet that we would end things amicably.

My phone kept ringing. When I checked it, I realized I had picked up the wrong one—it was He Jinsheng’s phone.
New messages kept popping up, and at first, I didn’t want to invade his privacy. But then I saw my name, “Cheng Yu.”
[Sheng-ge, what’s up with you and Cheng Yu?]
[Have you broken up or what? Say something, man.]
[Don’t feel bad, Sheng-ge. It was just a bet, right? Don’t get too caught up in it.]
A bet?
I scrolled up through the chat history.
The car was dead silent, so quiet I could almost hear my own heartbeat.
My hands were shaking uncontrollably, trembling so much that I could barely read the disgusting, vile things they were saying about me.
Tears fell onto the screen, and in a fit of rage, I threw the phone.
So all that talk of love from He Jinsheng was just a result of a bet between his friends—whoever could sleep with me would win ten million.
Ten million?
Was I really worth that much?
Then I remembered the video he sent to their group, and I scrambled to pick the phone back up.
The video was posted last night, and there was no way to retract it now.
I forced myself to calm down and think of how to handle it. If the photos leaked, my career would be over.
That’s when He Jinsheng called.
“Hey, Cheng Yu.”
I gripped the phone, saying nothing.
“You picked up the wrong phone, Cheng Yu.” He spoke with an air of caution. If I hadn’t seen those chat records, I might have thought he was trying to comfort me.
But now I knew better—he was just guilty.
“Where are you? I’ll come get the phone.”
I gripped the steering wheel tightly, trying to keep my voice steady despite the trembling in my body: “It’s just a phone, right? Does it really require the great He Jinsheng to personally retrieve it?”
He remained silent.
“Throwing away a watch worth tens of thousands didn’t even faze you, He Jinsheng. Why are you so concerned over a phone that costs just over ten grand? Or is there something in there you don’t want anyone to see?”
When he was pursuing me, he gave me an expensive watch, but when I refused, He Jinsheng immediately threw it into the ocean: “If you don’t want it, I’ll just toss it.”
Someone born with everything at their fingertips doesn’t care about things money can buy.
Still, he remained silent.
The more silent he was, the angrier I became.
“Is the He family bankrupt? Are you so desperate for money?”
“If you need money, just ask me. What’s ten million to me?”
He finally reacted: “Don’t worry, I’ll handle the video. It won’t leak.”
As soon as he said that, I hung up, stepped out of the car, and smashed his phone into pieces.

Afraid the video would leak, I barely slept for several nights, constantly searching my name online.
This fear lasted for a month.
I had just managed to fall asleep when my agent called. I immediately picked up: “What’s wrong, Sister Yue?”
I opened my laptop, ready to search my name again.
Thankfully, Sister Yue was only calling to tell me about a dinner meeting I needed to attend, and there was no negative news about me online.
Just as I was about to close the browser, I saw He Jinsheng’s name.
#He Family Heir Engaged#
As soon as the headline appeared, it shot up to the top of the trending list. I couldn’t resist clicking on it.
The news of He Jinsheng’s engagement to a prominent heiress was spreading like wildfire online.
It seemed like the whole world knew—except for me, the ex-boyfriend who had just broken up with him a month ago.
…
Sister Yue said it was a dinner, but the address she sent me was for a bar.
Our company wanted to collaborate with top idol Ji Mingxin, and he had agreed to meet—on the condition that I be there.
“Why does he want me there?”
Sister Yue chuckled over the phone, teasing: “Not sure, maybe he’s a fan?”
Ji Mingxin, a fan of mine?
I shook my head as I looked up information about him online.
He looked like the kind of guy with lots of girlfriends, not the type to be a fan of someone like me.
But when we finally met, I realized I might have judged him too quickly.
Ji Mingxin was even more attractive in person, with an androgynous beauty.
When I first saw him, I froze for a moment, feeling an odd sense of familiarity. But after staring at his beautiful face for a long time, I was sure we had never met before.
He was incredibly well-behaved, a shy boy. Whenever women approached him, he’d blush and politely decline.
Our conversation was going smoothly until, out of nowhere, a bottle flew toward us.
I immediately pulled Ji Mingxin close: “Are you alright?”
He was so close now that I could see the thick, curled lashes framing his eyes.
“I’m fine, thanks, Brother Yu.”
When I looked up again, I saw He Jinsheng standing in front of me, his face dark.
His eyes were fixed on Ji Mingxin, brimming with anger. His voice was cold: “Get lost.”
Maybe it was just my imagination, but I thought I saw a trace of amusement flash across Ji Mingxin’s face. In the next moment, he moved even closer, practically pressed against me.
