Zhou Zuizui found it a bit tedious. But going back wasn’t suitable since Shen Nan was still on a mission.
Although she and Shen Nan didn’t have any feelings for each other, she understood the importance of his mission. Anything that could make him mobilize wasn’t a small matter, so Zhou Zuizui was willing to make some personal sacrifices to cooperate.
In the evening, after Shen Nan and his team finalized their operational plans for the next day, they prepared to leave.
“Captain Shen, aren’t you coming to dinner with us?”
Shen Nan thought for a moment. “No, I have other matters.”
He then looked at the little boy. “Come with me tomorrow. No matter what they say, don’t look surprised.”
The little boy nodded. “Understood!”
“Remember!”
“Yes!”
The little boy asked, “Captain, where are you going?”
Shen Nan smiled lightly. “Looking for someone.”
The little boy watched Shen Nan’s retreating back, puzzled. What other person could there be with the captain here?
When Shen Nan called, Zhou Zuizui was eating in a restaurant, surrounded by couples, while she was alone.
“Hello.”
“Where are you?”
“Eating at the restaurant. Are you done with your work?”
“Hmm.” Shen Nan’s Adam’s apple moved. “I’m coming over to find you.”
“Come on then.” They were polite with each other. Zhou Zuizui gave him the address and hung up, continuing to enjoy her solo dinner.
After meeting and having dinner together, Zhou Zuizui wanted to go back.
However, when they returned to the guesthouse, Zhou Zuizui held a bouquet of lush roses to add a touch of realism to their act.
The tavern was crowded at night. Normally, Zhou Zuizui wouldn’t enter through the main door, but today she boldly walked in with the flowers, making a grand entrance.
As soon as she entered, all the gazes in the tavern fell on her.
Qiu Qiu was the most surprised, her eyes lighting up as she looked at the two.
“Sister is back,” she said, pointing at the flowers. “The flowers in your hand are so beautiful.”
“Yes,” Zhou Zuizui said with a smile. “Aren’t they fresh?”
“Yes, yes, yes!” Qiu Qiu praised her boss enthusiastically. “They’re perfect for you. These flowers are as beautiful as you!”
Zhou Zuizui pretended to be annoyed. “Are the flowers more beautiful than me?”
Qiu Qiu: “…No!” She playfully added, “It’s Valentine’s Day, and it’s so lively outside.”
Valentine’s Day in the ancient town is always bustling, but the guesthouse is even more so. The locals are well aware of this.
After all, couples come to travel at this time, and everyone understands why. Being adults, a more direct love story is beneficial for development.
“How’s business tonight?”
“Very good,” Qiu Qiu replied. “There are many couples and married couples.”
Zhou Zuizui raised an eyebrow and teased Qiu Qiu. “Let’s get drunk and leave together.”
Qiu Qiu giggled.
The two spoke in voices neither too loud nor too soft, just enough for Shen Nan, who was particularly sensitive, to hear every word clearly. Upon hearing the last line, Shen Nan lifted his eyelids and glanced at Zhou Zuizui, who was smiling a bit too much, clearing his throat to remind her.
Zhou Zuizui glanced at him sideways and smiled. “Hubby, do you want to drink some wine too?”
She playfully brushed the flowers she was holding against Shen Nan’s chest. “The wine I brewed is really good. Want to try some?”
Shen Nan’s gaze grew heavy as he looked at her, clearly impressed. While he was always cold and indifferent when alone with her, now, in front of everyone, she was exuding such charm.
As the saying goes, when a woman becomes charming—especially a beautiful woman—just a hint of using her feminine wiles can leave a man utterly defenseless.
The two shared a silent look, and Shen Nan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he murmured, playing along with her act. “Alright.”
“Shall we drink in the room?” he raised an eyebrow, making a more suggestive proposal.
Zhou Zuizui replied, “…Sure.”
With the attention of everyone on them, the two headed upstairs, one after the other. Before going up, Shen Nan still held the wine that Qiu Qiu had given them. It seemed they really planned to get drunk in the room to facilitate their tasks.
The moonlight in the ancient town was always pleasant, with the starry sky twinkling.
Once they entered the room, Zhou Zuizui wanted to relax and keep her distance from Shen Nan. But before she could speak, Shen Nan covered her mouth.
Zhou Zuizui’s eyes widened, her eyelashes fluttering as she looked at him, confused.
Shen Nan set down his things, pulled her into his arms, and began writing in her palm.
After a while, Zhou Zuizui nodded in understanding. He was worried there might be surveillance or listening devices in the room. While others might not be able to get into the room, those with criminal intentions could easily find a way in.
Just as soldiers can scale walls to rescue people, those with nefarious plans have their own methods for wrongdoing.
With this in mind, Zhou Zuizui clung to Shen Nan, speaking softly into his ear to ensure that anyone monitoring or listening wouldn’t hear them.
“How do we find it?” Her voice was very soft, her breath brushing against Shen Nan’s ear, and her scent filling his senses, causing his eyes to darken.
He stiffened for a moment, holding her waist and whispering in her ear, “Turn off the lights and go to the bed first.”
It was better to go somewhere a pinhole camera couldn’t reach for a more secure check.
Zhou Zuizui raised an eyebrow, placing her hands on Shen Nan’s shoulders. Looking at him with a soft voice, she deliberately increased her volume, “Hubby, aren’t you going to drink with me first?”
Shen Nan smiled, his lips brushing her ear as he asked, “What if you get drunk?”
Thinking of her earlier conversation with Qiu Qiu downstairs, Zhou Zuizui threw him a flirtatious glance. “Drunk, will you come with me?”
He smiled, suggesting something deeper. “Where to?”
Zhou Zuizui’s smile was ambiguous as she said two words: “To bed.”
