Chapter 78: Chased and Bitten—The Three Thieves Are Dragged to the Police Station!
“We’ve already scoped out the place. There’s only one mentally ill old woman, a caretaker who leaves at night, and Miss Gu.”
“The caretaker doesn’t stay overnight, so this huge villa only has two people inside at night.”
The woman took out a high-tech scanner and swept it around the villa.
No third person detected.
There were a few cats and dogs, but she didn’t take them seriously.
“This might just be the easiest job of our career. Once we get the goods, we’ll make a few million effortlessly.”
“A father hiring us to steal from his own daughter—now that’s interesting.”
The man beside the woman flashed a sinister smile.
“That Miss Gu looks pretty good. After we’re done, I think I’ll have a little fun with her.”
The third man frowned and scolded, “Third, cut that out. Take your money and find a woman somewhere else if you want, but don’t touch this one!”
The man called “Third” looked displeased, his eyes flickering with malice.
“Fine, fine, we’ll do it your way,” he muttered reluctantly.
The eldest of the trio furrowed his brows, not noticing the change in Third’s expression.
He had a gut feeling that tonight’s job wouldn’t go as smoothly as expected.
The villa, grand and luxurious, wasn’t heavily guarded like other wealthy estates.
In fact, if it were, he might feel more at ease.
Instead, the eerie ease of access made him uneasy, as if something sacred about this place shouldn’t be disturbed.
He shook off the thought.
“Third, take care of those cats and dogs first. We don’t want their barking to alert security.”
Third didn’t want to bother. What could a few animals possibly do?
But under the leader’s stern gaze, he complied.
Lightly jumping over the garden wall, he pulled out some pet food laced with sedatives.
The woman, monitoring the situation, deployed a drone to scan the yard.
She turned to the leader.
“You’re too hard on Third. He just wants a little fun. A bit of knockout smoke, and that woman won’t even remember it happened.”
The leader replied coldly, “I won’t break our rules.”
The woman smirked.
“Did you see the gemstone necklace on that woman’s neck? I looked into it—it’s worth at least a billion.”
“And that diamond bracelet on her wrist? A hundred or two hundred million, easy.”
“If we find the big gem… don’t you have any other ideas?”
The man frowned.
“What do you mean?”
She leaned in.
“I mean, that Gu woman is only paying us a few million to do this. Why don’t we just take everything and flee abroad? We’ll never have to sneak around again.”
The leader hesitated, considering.
But then, something on the drone feed caught his attention.
“Move the drone a bit… there, that cat… something’s off.”
The woman shifted the view.
A sleek tabby cat was staring at the drone—its eyes glinted with a disturbingly human-like amusement.
Their hearts skipped a beat.
The cat lounged lazily on a tree branch and let out a soft call.
“Meow.”
Suddenly, three more cats and four dogs emerged from the shadows.
Third, still holding the drugged treats, hesitated.
But he was confident in his skills.
He tossed the bait.
“Come on, eat up.”
The meatballs rolled across the ground, exuding an irresistible scent for pets.
Even well-trained police dogs would fall for it.
But these cats and dogs didn’t even sniff it.
Instead, they silently encircled him.
Among them, a particularly large dog, resembling a mix of a shepherd and a native breed, towered over the others. Bigger than a golden retriever or a Labrador, it locked eyes with Third.
It didn’t bark.
Just stared.
A chill ran down Third’s spine.
Suddenly, the leader’s voice crackled in his earpiece.
“Third, those animals are weird. Get out now.”
That was the signal.
The cats and dogs pounced.
Third was agile, his wiry frame built for parkour. He leapt meters into the air and grabbed onto the garden wall in one swift motion.
He sneered, making a mocking gesture at the animals.
“It’s just a bunch of—WTF?!”
A cat had jumped up to the wall and slashed his face.
The next second, a dog lunged and sank its teeth into his backside.
Pain, shock, and fear flooded Third’s mind—these animals were coordinating their attacks!
He scrambled over the wall, desperate to escape, but a cat and a dog were already in pursuit.
Meanwhile, the leader and the woman watching from afar felt their blood run cold.
Smash.
The drone feed cut out.
The last image it captured was a cat’s face.
That same tabby.
A cat had leapt ten meters into the air and swiped it out of the sky.
That wasn’t normal.
Then, they realized—they were surrounded.
Two cats, three dogs.
The large shepherd mix was right in front of them.
The leader tensed and pulled out a machete.
He was the muscle of the group, trained in martial arts for over ten years. Normal people couldn’t even get close to him.
His eyes turned cold—he was ready to kill.
Murder was off-limits, but killing a few animals? No big deal.
He swung his blade at the large dog.
Normally, even the fiercest dogs would cower from a weapon.
But this one ducked, rolled, and dodged effortlessly.
The leader slashed again.
The dog jumped, tucked its body mid-air, then snapped its jaws around his wrist.
Crunch.
His wrist shattered.
A bloodcurdling scream tore through the night.
The sound alerted the security guards.
And then—police sirens blared.
Panic gripped the thieves.
“The cops?! Boss, Third—run!”
The woman, trembling, was in disbelief.
Who called them?
They had been so careful.
Her eyes darted around—then she saw something that froze her in place.
That tabby cat.
Holding a tiny phone.
It had just made the emergency call—then tucked the phone back into its fur.
She stammered, “Th-That cat… That cat…”
Four pairs of gleaming eyes locked onto her.
Two massive twenty-pound cats flanked her, poised to strike.
If she moved, they’d shred her face.
Third was still screaming as he got mauled.
The once-mighty leader had both wrists broken—now the big dog had its teeth at his throat.
And she? She was just a woman.
She couldn’t outrun Third. She didn’t have the leader’s fighting skills.
As the flashing red and blue lights approached, a ridiculous thought crossed her mind.
The legendary trio of master thieves…
Had been taken down by a bunch of cats and dogs.
If word got out, their reputations would be ruined forever.
