The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies
The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies | Chapter 15: Finally, Waiting for Rescue

[edited]

Jiang Ning went to the balcony in her pajamas. The typhoon still looked quite strong and the wind appeared to be lessening somewhat, but the rain was getting heavier.

The water had flooded the entire second floor and was creeping up to the third floor and the corridor was in chaos again.

She had hand grab pancakes for breakfast, filled with fried eggs, ham, greens, and tomato sauce. They were still crispy and warm when taken out of the space, and the fragrant aroma spread on her taste buds.

Jiang Ning had made over a hundred of them and stored them in her space and it’s enough to last for a long time.

Although their delicious, they were a bit greasy.

She also poured herself a cup of honey pomelo fruit tea and flipped through her sophomore pharmaceutical book while sipping.

Around ten o’clock, there was a knock on the door. She thought it was Zheng Weili, but to her surprise, it was 1801.

Jiang Ning was somewhat surprised. He was always reclusive and taciturn. Even though Doudou often came to her place, she had hardly exchanged a few words with him.

Suddenly, she became cautious.

Huo Yishen’s stern face revealed some nervousness. “Doudou is sick. Can you treat her?”

Jiang Ning was surprised. “What’s wrong with her?”

“She has a fever, vomiting, and she’s talking nonsense.”

Being sick meant that you needed to go to the hospital, but with the typhoon raging outside, it was impossible to leave. Jiang Ning stated first, “I can help take a look, but my knowledge is limited. Don’t put too much hope on me.”

“Thank you.”

Considering his involvement in murder, Jiang Ning reluctantly agreed and went back to her room to grab a folding fruit knife, stuffing it into her pocket.

The first time she stepped into 1801, the three bedroom apartment was quite spacious, with good lighting and layout. The living room was furnished with old fashioned furniture, meticulously arranged and cleaner than her own place, far better in comparison.

These days, there aren’t many guys who can handle household chores.

Looking up at the balcony glass. She saw a newly installed with two layers of toughened glass, plus three layers of stainless steel doors, the whole house seemed like a fortress.

Sigh, her own life wasn’t as well put together.

Looking away, Jiang Ning came to Doudou’s room.

Doudou not only had a fever but also developed a rash. Her two shiny black eyes looked dull and lifeless. “Sister.”

Taking her temperature, checking her pulse, conducting a physical examination, Jiang Ning also inspected her bruised body.

Her medical skills were makeshift, but they were sufficient.

Jiang Ning looked towards 1801. “Doudou is weak, moderate exercise can enhance physical fitness and increase immunity, but it shouldn’t be too strenuous.”

She didn’t know how 1801 trained Doudou, but judging from the bruises all over her body, it seemed like he had pushed her too hard.

The short term high intensity training caused her body to have a stress response. Not only was her immunity low but she also had mental health issues. She develops a cold and was infected with wind. Would she not throw up, have diarrhea, and have a rash?

She knew he couldn’t take care of the child, but she didn’t expect him to be so careless.

After learning the cause of Doudou’s illness, Huo Yishen blamed himself, “I didn’t take good care of Doudou.”

Seeing the horrifying bruises on his sister’s body, he couldn’t react. Doudou never complained about being tired every day. When he rubbed her bruised forehead, she would smile and say it didn’t hurt.

He brought the medicine box over, which contained quite a few medications. “Jiang Ning, which ones do you think we should use?”

If it really couldn’t be handled, they would have to take the risk and go to the hospital.

Jiang Ning looked through the medicine box, surprised to find it quite well equipped, mostly with children’s medicine.

The illness was relatively simple, just treat the symptoms. Jiang Ning found medicines for wind cold and gastrointestinal issues, while also applying belly patches to Dou Dou. “Once Dou Dou’s illness improves, we’ll focus on recuperating her body gradually.”

Unable to bear seeing the bruises on her, Jiang Ning brought over half a bottle of medicated wine. “Apply it four to five times a day. Massaging more will have a better effect.”

Huo Yishen expressed his gratitude. “Doudou is prone to bumps. I happen to have some herbs. Could you help see which ones can be used to make medicinal wine?”

Despite his lack of childcare skills, he sure had a lot of supplies.

He brought out two large bags of traditional Chinese medicine from another room, all individually packaged to prevent moisture.

Jiang Ning picked out a dozen or so varieties, all for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. “Put them in glass jars, add a liter of white wine, seal them, and they’ll be ready to use in half a month.”

Seeing some Korean ginseng, she singled it out. “This can also be steeped. Drinking it when the weather gets cold not only warms the body but also replenishes Qi and blood.”

Rock sugar soaked in white wine was also excellent, not only for reducing internal heat but also for nourishing the kidneys and blood.

She said enough. Teaching the apprentice might starve the master.

Doudou fell asleep quickly after taking the medicine, but she kept mumbling in her sleep.

Sick children were pitiful, tears hung from their eyelashes, and their pale little mouths kept whispering, “Mommy, I want mommy, daddy…”

Huo Yishen sat by her bedside, gently wiping away her tears, comforting her with a guilty tone, “Doudou, don’t be afraid, brother is here.”

Judging by his expression, he was someone who cared for his sister, it’s just that his methods were wrong.

Just as she reached the door, 1801 stopped her and handed her a packet of instant noodles. “Thank you for taking care of Doudou.”

Instant noodles were only a few bucks before the disaster, but in the apocalypse, they could help people survive for several days longer.

Rather than being polite, Jiang Ning took it with a peace of mind.

Back home, she took out some glass jars and filled them with rock sugar and white wine. “I’ve been too busy teaching others, I almost forgot about this.”

Sitting around the fireplace in extremely cold weather, sipping a cup, was indescribably pleasant.

She also took out a few pounds of grapes, washed them and placed them on the balcony in the storage space, ready to be used to make fruit wine.

Exiting the storage space, she could clearly feel that the typhoon had changed again.

Not only did she notice, but many others did too, some even shouting and cheering through their windows.

They couldn’t contain their excitement, feeling like the disaster was about to end.

In a good mood, Jiang Ning brought out a serving of boiled fish, accompanied by fragrant rice.

Even the plastic lunch boxes after eating weren’t thrown away. Although she had plenty in storage, these were non renewable resources. Washing them clean meant they could be reused.

Just as she was about to take a nap, she was awakened by the roaring sound of engines.

It was a rescue boat, along with firefighters wearing orange life jackets.

The typhoon hadn’t stopped yet, but its momentum was weakening rapidly. Carefully driving to avoid the waves was still possible.

Eighteen days in total, cut off from the rest of the world. Just as people were running out of supplies, the dawn of hope finally arrived.

At the sight of the rescue boat, many people broke down in tears. “Rescue is here! The government hasn’t abandoned us! Sob, sob, sob…”

They cried and laughed, feeling at a loss yet excited, continuously wiping away their tears.

There are only three rescue boats, but they are everyone’s hope for survival.

The horn sounded, and firefighters reassured the residents of each unit. “Everyone don’t panic. We won’t abandon anyone in need of help. We’ll go building by building, collecting essential items quickly. Priority will be given to evacuating the elderly and children.”

This round of evacuation and rescue was only targeted at users on the lower floors that were flooded, but there were still many residents rushing downstairs, surrounding the firefighters. “Comrade, what about us? Our house is still there, what about food and water?”

“My family hasn’t eaten for three days, we’ve been relying on rainwater. Can you bring us some food?”

“Yeah, why did you come empty handed? Isn’t the government supposed to help us? We’re all taxpayers. Without our taxes, how can you support yourselves!”

The more people gathered, the more chaotic it became, and the questions became more absurd. From gratitude initially, it turned into resentment, with a sense of ‘you can’t leave without giving us an explanation.’
