What’s going on?
It’s hard enough to stay alive, but to be bullied in your own country?
In someone else’s territory, instead of cowering, they dare to be so brazen?
Hah, aggression seems to be in their blood.
In the dim corner, several men kept kicking the three people lying on the ground; they were speaking in a language unfamiliar to them.
Some had samurai swords, some had guns, and some had baseball bats.
They didn’t just kill, but they kept beating and even became more and more excited, exposing their ugly and twisted human nature.
The desperate cries for mercy kept stimulating them, and their attacks grew fiercer.
One of them raised his knife, his face twisted with ferocity, and stabbed viciously.
Lost in their killing frenzy, they didn’t notice the danger lurking in the darkness.
Before the knife could strike, it was stabbed like candied haws.
Without hesitation, Jiang Ning drew her sword and stabbed the second attacker.
Huo Yishen acted even more swiftly, cleanly disarming one with a gun, breaking the neck of another with a bat, and kicking another aside.
The two of them adhered strictly to martial principles, cleanly dispatching the five attackers, not even giving them a chance to beg for mercy.
The flashlight swept over the people on the ground.
They were badly beaten, their faces covered in blood, and they are unrecognizable.
Out of humanitarian concern, Jiang Ning asked, “Are you guys alright?”
The flashlight’s glare was blinding, and one of them instinctively shielded his eyes, trembling, “Sis?”
The voice was muffled, but Jiang Ning still recognized it— Sharp mouthed monkey.
How come he’s everywhere?
Jiang Ning swept the flashlight around and spotted a water tanker not far away.
They were smuggling water and got robbed.
Sharp mouthed monkey staggered to his feet, wiping the blood off his face, pleasantly surprised. “Sis, was it really you who saved us?”
Saying that, he quickly helped up the man beside him.
He was tall, about six feet.
“Boss, this is the sister I mentioned to you. She’s really something. If she hadn’t acted tonight, we’d be meeting the King of Hell for real.”
The man, in his thirties with short hair, appeared honest and simple. However, his eyes revealed a cunning and worldly nature; he’s not a simple person at all.
Of course, to be able to survive in the apocalypse and organize such a huge network of second-level dealers, one is destined to be a person with a story.
Wiping the blood off his face, the man smiled weakly at Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen and said, “Thank you both for your help.”
“It was just a small effort.”
Seeing that they were fine, Jiang Ning missed the two at home and didn’t say much. She turned to leave.
“Wait.” The man stopped them. “I’m called Qin Chuan. I don’t even know the names of my benefactors or where they live.”
In the apocalypse, who would ask for someone’s name and address? If he dared to ask, he had to be ready to answer.
Jiang Ning smiled. “You’re asking so clearly, are you planning to repay us?”
Qin Chuan was stunned, then said, “Of course, great kindness must be rewarded. What do you want?”
Before she could answer, he immediately instructed Sharp mouthed monkey, “We got a lot of food today.”
Sharp mouthed monkey reminded him in a low voice, “Boss, Sis doesn’t seem to lack food.”
“Alright.” Qin Chuan was generous. “How about this? I’ll send you freshwater tomorrow.”
A tanker holds 20 tons of freshwater, which could last almost half a year if used carefully. Exchanging it for goods was also profitable.
Sharp mouthed monkey tugged at his sleeve discreetly and said, “Boss, Sis doesn’t seem to need water.”
Qin Chuan readily agreed: “I don’t know what you want, but as long as it’s within my ability, I promise to take care of it for you.”
Just a casual joke, poking fun at the small-time crooks, Jiang Ning hadn’t thought of asking for any reward from them, but hearing Qin Chuan’s words changed her mind.
“I have clients interested in collecting antiques, calligraphy, or paintings. Gold, silver, and jade artifacts are also acceptable. Could you please help me find some?”
Qin Chuan had already known from the sharp-mouthed monkey that she was a powerful person. Not only was she a beauty, but she was also skilled.
He thought she would make extravagant demands, but she just wanted these.
Indeed, antiques and calligraphy are valuable, but only in prosperous times.
In the beginning, nobody knew this would be an endless catastrophe. He thought there would be an end sooner or later, so not only did he collect paper currency but also many antiques, calligraphy, and gold, thinking he could make a fortune once the disaster passed.
Now… The $500,000 she gave him was still unused, let alone the antiques piled up in the room.
They were nothing but torn paper and broken porcelain.
But this beauty was somewhat mysterious; whatever she hoarded increased in value. Was there something special about them?
“No problem.” Qin Chuan readily agreed. “What kind of antiques, calligraphy, or gold, silver, and jade artifacts are you looking for?”
Jiang Ning didn’t specify, “Anything will do. The older, the better, but they must be authentic.”
“Okay, give me an address, and I’ll send them over another day.”
Familiarity breeds contempt. Jiang Ning wouldn’t really give her address. She pointed to a sharp-mouthed monkey and said, “He can find me.”
Qin Chuan agreed readily, “Alright.”
The two didn’t linger and quickly disappeared into the darkness, taking the guns they had snatched from the small-time crooks.
Huo Yishen obediently handed them over, and Jiang Ning tossed them into her space.
Even someone like Qin Chuan, who’s experienced in the underworld, could fall victim to robbery. It seemed chaotic outside. Jiang Ning temporarily abandoned the idea of selling water. She wanted to wait and see if he could find what she wanted.
Her goal was to expand her storage space; everything else was secondary.
The weather was getting hotter and hotter, especially on the top floor.
Jiang Ning couldn’t bear it anymore and took out a battery box to power up the air conditioner.
Though the air conditioner casing has experienced the extreme cold, It’s still able to operate, although it’s a bit brittle.
The casing hung on the balcony, soundproofed by bulletproof glass. Zhang Chao and the others, who lived across the wall, left, and no one lived downstairs in 1702.
So, nobody knew that 1802 had air conditioning on.
The cool breeze it emitted was heavenly; it was truly a life-saving device.
1801 was just as hot, but Huo Yishen’s room had the air conditioning unit mounted on the exterior wall, causing it to drip water downstairs after being turned on.
Jiang Ning suggested, “Why don’t you switch rooms?”
So, Huo Yishen moved to the master bedroom and invited her over. “Do you want to come and stay?”
Jiang Ning almost spat at him.
After the room was moved, there was no more dripping downstairs, and the air conditioning was finally turned on.
Huo Yishen never asked for any of her supplies. Worried he might suffer from the heat, Jiang Ning reminded him, “If the power runs out, let me know, and I’ll recharge it for you.”
His battery box was at 30%, so it would last quite a while when fully charged.
After resting at home for two days and seeing Aunt Zhong bring seawater back again, Jiang Ning also carried a bucket downstairs.
Sharp mouthed monkey was quite badly injured, but he continued to drink water with a swollen face. Seeing her, he grinned and said, “Sis, it’s not easy to find you.”
He led Jiang Ning into an alley and took out a painting and a bowl from his bag. “This is a little token from the boss. Sis, please accept it.”
Jiang Ning unfolded the painting, only to find several shrimp, which are vividly depicted.
Tsk tsk, these were the world-famous shrimps. How did they end up in Qin Chuan’s hands?
The bowl wasn’t ordinary either; it was a painted chicken bowl, commonly known as the world’s best bowl, not only a historical artifact but also a witness to imperial love. Experts estimated its value to be over $100 million.
