Though Jiang Ning felt uneasy, almost every day she and Huo Yishen had to venture out. It wasn’t worth risking harassment or intentionally letting refugees in to endanger their own family. 

This was no joke. Half a month ago, a family was robbed. 

The thief came in like they were returning home; the doors and windows were intact, but all the goods were gone. The owner, who didn’t wake up until noon the next day, was dumbfounded. 

Nobody was foolish; this was clearly an inside job. It would be strange if there wasn’t an insider. 

But what could the main family do? Without a police station to seek justice, they were even kicked out when they argued with the security guards. 

Fortunately, Jiang Ning was vigilant. Not only did she use an electric fence to surround the villa, but when the security guards offered to help with moving goods or other enthusiastic services, she politely refused. 

People were selfish. In this apocalypse, trusting others easily meant seeking death.

Coke snarled, wanting to burst out and tear them apart, but was held back by the trainer. 

Doudou had never seen so many ferocious faces and couldn’t help but feel afraid, “Brother.” 

Huo Yishen comforted her in a low voice, stuffing a piece of toffee into her mouth and saying, “Don’t be afraid.” 

Jiang Ning was not moved at all by the outside hatred and violence. The glass of the escape pod was made of aerospace material. Even if someone used a baseball bat to hit it, it wouldn’t break easily. 

This was manufactured by a major country, and it’s incredibly durable! 

Moreover, the glass had three layers. Even if the first layer was broken, there were still two layers left. It wouldn’t be smashed in a day or two. 

“Damn it!” 

The crowd grew even more frenzied. Since they couldn’t smash it, they decided to push the escape pod off the rooftop.

Jiang Ning remained silent and was quietly watching the extremely poor and evil rich people outside.

Dozens of people couldn’t dodge in time, and the scene was washed clean by the waves. 

Those who survived barely had time to breathe before seeing another wave, over ten meters high, rushing towards them. 

The world fell silent. 

Humanity vanished like foam and illusion, leaving no trace. 

The escape pod was washed away. 

With Doudou there, Jiang Ning didn’t want to enter the space. She had intended to take the escape pod out just in case, but she hadn’t expected the tsunami to be so severe, completely blocking her escape route. 

In the blink of an eye, with no other choice, Jiang Ning pulled herself and the escape pod into space. 

Without the tsunami and the towering waves, there was only the quiet black soil garden. 

Jiang Ning unbuckled her seatbelt, and the dog jumped out of the pod but was shocked by the scene before it. 

It felt familiar yet strange. 

Huo Yishen held Doudou and walked out. 

Jiang Ning was surprised. “What’s wrong with Doudou?” 

“She’s fine. I gave her some sleeping pills, and she’ll wake up after a nap.” 

“You…” Jiang Ning was astonished. “How long until she wakes up?” 

Huo Yishen put his sister on the bed and said, “Twenty-four hours.” 

Twenty-four hours? That was quite a strong dose. 

Seeing her concern, Huo Yishen explained, “There might be some minor side effects, but as long as it’s not taken frequently, it won’t have much impact on the body.” 

Jiang Ning’s mood was complicated, and for a moment, she didn’t know what to say. 

Huo Yishen didn’t want her to feel burdened. “Anning, Doudou is still young. She has a long way to go in the future and will experience many things and meet many people. I can’t guarantee that she will always stay true to her original intentions.” 

People’s hearts were unpredictable; he could only guarantee that he wouldn’t change himself, but he couldn’t control Doudou’s life for her. 

Therefore, he not only had to consider Doudou’s welfare but also Jiang Ning’s safety, striving to strike a balance and not leave hidden dangers for the future. 

Jiang Ning understood his intentions and walked over to hug him gently. “Huo Yishen, you’re quite thoughtful.” 

Huo Yishen hugged her back and said, “We’re both fine.” 

The dog completed its patrol of the territory and stared at the huddled poop scooper and trainer with wide eyes. 

Its head tilted left and then right before walking to the front of the living room bed and staring at the sleeping Doudou. “Woof, woof…” 

The two separated, and Huo Yishen explained, “Doudou is asleep; don’t disturb her.” 

The dog immediately fell silent and lay down beside her. 

With the catastrophic tsunami outside, it would probably take some time to end. 

The bed in the living room wasn’t suitable. Jiang Ning decided to tidy up a few rooms. 

There was plenty of space now; things could be moved and rearranged as needed. 

Huo Yishen picked the master bedroom on the second floor. “Our room?” 

Jiang Ning wanted to hit him. 

He began arranging the room, picking out a two-meter bed from the pile of furniture with a comfortable latex mattress and brand-new sheets and quilts. 
 
 

Wardrobes, bedside tables, desk lamps, curtains, and so on. 

Jiang Ning noticed that, despite Huo Yishen being quiet, he was quite thoughtful. He arranged Doudou’s and the dog’s rooms far away.
