The Dragon Slaying Society got destroyed easily due to favorable timing, a good location, and human cooperation. It just happens to be a good opportunity. In contrast, the situation at the Qinggang Base was different. 

Two people going up against a base with over 200 people was not a possible solution. 

However, hiding was also not a solution. If they could find this place, they could find other places too. 

The Qinggang Base seemed like a gang, but it wasn’t that simple. 

“Take it one step at a time,” Huo Yishen thought. “I have prepared a few sets of bulletproof vests, including one in Doudou’s size. Can you find it for her?” 

Jiang Ning searched through the space and indeed found a few sets. They were slightly large for Doudou, but still manageable. 

“Can you modify them?” Huo Yishen looked through the bulletproof vests. “Make a set for Coke too.” 

Jiang Ning’s craftsmanship was rough, but she could give it a try. 

Bulletproof vests were hard to come by, and she was afraid of ruining them, so she repeatedly measured the dog’s size. Fortunately, the dog cooperated. 

She stayed up all night, modifying the bulletproof vest. When she put it on the dog, it looked majestic. “Don’t take it off. Wear it today.” 

Although they didn’t say it out loud, they both knew that since Qinggang Base had come knocking. They wouldn’t leave easily. 

Moving was not an option for now to prevent involving others. 

That night, Huo Yishen locked the rooftop door, checked the stainless steel door on the sixteenth floor, and adjusted the electric current to the maximum. All doors and windows on the seventeenth floor were closed tightly. 

He made a trap, hooked the wire on the doors and windows, and tied a mini-alarm on the other end. 

If someone forced their way in, the alarms would fall to the ground and emit a piercing sound. 

Late at night, Jiang Ning got up to return to room 1802 to sleep, but Huo Yishen stopped her. “It’s not safe to be apart. Stay here; there’s plenty of room.” 

Indeed, what if they were separated and got picked off one by one? 

She thought for a moment. “I’ll sleep with Doudou.” 

Huo Yishen looked at her without speaking. 

Jiang Ning felt a bit awkward and looked away. 

Huo Yishen gazed at her. “I’m not going to eat you.” 

The master bedroom was large, clean, and tidy. 

Jiang Ning lay on the bed, feeling a bit nervous. 

When the lights were off, Huo Yishen reached out to hold her. “Sleep; don’t overthink it.” 

Who.. Who is overthinking? Does he think she didn’t know he wanted to play poker. 

Fortunately, he just held her without any other intentions. 

Exhausted from the day’s events, she fell asleep in a daze. 

Suddenly, she felt a weight on her body. 

Jiang Ning woke up startled, thinking Huo Yishen was being inappropriate, but it was the dog jumping onto the bed, growling urgently. 

Huo Yishen jumped up and quickly put on his clothes. “Someone broke in.” 

Putting on the bulletproof vest, he armed himself. “I’ll go check. You go see Doudou.” 

Jiang Ning instantly became alert. She dressed in the dark without turning on the lights and ran to Doudou’s room. She helped her put on a bulletproof vest, then… pushed her under the bed. 

“Doudou, stay still. No matter what happens, unless we call you, don’t come out.” 

She wanted to push the dog under too, but it had already followed Huo Yishen. 

Putting on the night vision goggles, she grabbed a weapon and stepped out. 

Several shadows are wearing insulated gloves. They are using dirty tricks to bypass the three electrified stainless steel doors and sneak up. 

Refusing a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit, huh? Tonight, they’ll wipe out the 18th floor, drag their bodies back to display, and show everyone what happens when you cross Qinggang Base. 

They thought their methods were clever and undetected, not knowing the dog had already sensed them. 

Huo Yishen went down half a floor, waiting for them to creep up in the dark. 

Their flashlights were dim, and they didn’t notice the thin iron wire underfoot. Which triggered the alarm. 

They were shocked. “Not good; it’s an ambush!” 

At the same time, gunshots rang out. 

In the darkness, with poor visibility and the stairwell as cover, both sides began to fight. 

Jiang Ning arrived shortly after, taking advantage of the defensive position to kill one of the attackers. 

With a “thud,” a dull sound accompanied by sparks was heard. 

Immediately after, the dog started barking sharply. 

Damn, it’s a bomb! 

The dog carried the explosive pack and smelled it, knowing something was wrong, so it immediately issued an early warning. 

Jiang Ning was shocked and pulled Huo Yishen upstairs. “Hurry, let’s go!” 

Unexpectedly, instead of running, he rushed down and kicked the explosive pack hard. 

The two of them, along with the dog, dashed upstairs. 

A loud “boom” shook the entire building. 

A powerful blast wave surged from behind, propelling Jiang Ning forward. 

She landed heavily on the ground, her ears are ringing, with the acrid smell of gunpowder everywhere. 

Glass shattered, and chunks of the ceiling fell down. 

Jiang Ning couldn’t move, and it took her a while to get better. She was coughing really hard. 

Coke rushed over, whimpering anxiously, and bit her clothes, trying to drag her to safety… 

Jiang Ning sat up. “Huo Yishen?” 

Her ears were ringing, and she couldn’t hear any sound. Dust and smoke filled the air, and she didn’t dare to shout again for fear that the enemy was not dead. 

Suppressing her dizziness, Jiang Ning staggered to her feet and started down the stairs. 

Huo Yishen had to be alive; he couldn’t be in trouble! 

The dog bit her pants and pulled her back, then rushed down the stairs. 

“Boom!” Another deafening explosion occurred. 

Jiang Ning’s ears throbbed painfully as she forced herself down the stairs, hearing faint footsteps through the smoke. 

She pointed her gun and was ready to fire. 

“Woof!!!” 

The dog’s bark echoed as Coke dragged Huo Yishen by his pants, and it was struggling to pull him up. 

The dog had found its trainer! 

Covered in dust, Huo Yishen’s handsome and resolute features were barely recognizable, but his white teeth flashed in a grin. “I’m fine. I finished off the last one.” 

Jiang Ning rushed over and hugged him tightly. 

The dog was momentarily stunned, then jumped up and hugged them both. 

Out of the six intruders, four were shot, one was blown up, and the last was finished off by Huo Yishen. 

Thanks to their bulletproof vests, the two weren’t seriously injured, but the blast left them with numerous bruises and cuts. Most of the glass in the building was shattered, and large sections of the corridor and walls of unit 1701 were blown away, with half the staircase destroyed. 

The building was completely ruined. 

The Qinggang Base aimed to destroy the 18th floor, so they used a substantial amount of explosives. The blast rendered the 18th floor uninhabitable and the building at risk of collapse. 

Back home, Huo Yishen was about to wash his face when Jiang Ning stopped him. “After surviving such a disaster, we need to take a commemorative photo.” 

They took a photo, both covered in dust and grime. 

Jiang Ning was about to put her phone away when Huo Yishen suddenly leaned in. 

She had no choice but to take another photo. 

The dog barked anxiously. 

So they squatted down, letting the dog sit in the center, and took another photo. 

Wait, someone was missing. 

Where was Doudou? 

When Jiang Ning found her under the bed, Doudou was already in tears. 

She wanted to come out but remembered her sister’s words: only come out when called. 

Seeing her brother and sister covered in dust, she cried even harder, wiping her eyes with her small hands. 

Huo Yishen comforted her, “Don’t cry, Doudou. Brother and sister are fine.” 

They took another family photo. 

After washing their faces and applying ointment to their bruises and cuts, they noticed that the dog had also gotten hurt, with a bump on its forehead which makes Jiang Ning feel even more distressed. 

It was already 3 a.m. The two of them discussed their next steps. “We can’t stay on the 18th floor anymore. We need to leave immediately.” 

As for where to go, they would decide once they had safely evacuated.
