After Zhang Chao and his group left, Jiang Ning sat on the sofa, leaning quietly on Huo Yishen’s shoulder.
Huo Yishen put his arm around her shoulder. “What’s wrong?”
“I feel very happy and satisfied.” Jiang Ning put her arm around his neck. “Mr. Huo, thank you.”
Huo Yishen smiled. “Thank you for what?”
“Everything.” Jiang Ning smiled at him. “Meeting, getting to know each other, loving each other, tolerance, understanding…”
Everything truly seems so beautiful. She wishes it could last forever and that they could grow old together without ever parting.
Huo Yishen hugged her without saying a word, but his heart was extremely satisfied.
Doudou was washing dishes in the kitchen, pretending not to notice the intimacy between her brother and sister-in-law.
She didn’t know anything and hadn’t seen anything.
But the dog was quite mischievous, sneaking a look at the door, and Doudou tugged its ear back, “No peeking.”
The next day, Jiang Ning slept until she woke up naturally. While eating the boiled rice noodles made by Doudou, she discussed with Huo Yishen, “There is nothing to do today. Why don’t we bring the coal back?”
The base is about 50 kilometers away from the coal yard, and there are many places that need coal. Trucks go there every day, so the road should be relatively safe.
Huo Yishen had no objections; it was better to bring it back early and store it in the space to avoid any troubles later.
The house had been touched by someone. The two were absolutely not allowed to be left behind and the things that should be collected had to be collected as well.
After handling everything, Huo Yishen took a few strands of hair and stuck them in the crack of the door when closing it.
The road to the coal yard was initially smooth, but the repeated rolling over made it bumpy over time. It was so rough that it almost made Jiang Ning feel sick.
There were armed soldiers stationed in the coal yard. The unit was affiliated with the military base, and all the employees in the office area were military families.
As for the coal miners, they were all survivors who had committed crimes but were not bad enough to be shot. If there were not enough people, the survivors of the base would be arranged to come and work.
The difference between the two was that the offenders had a heavier job, and they only had food and accommodation without points.
Jiang Ning handed in the note issued by the work center, and it was quickly arranged. She just had to queue up with the pickup order.
The mechanized operation of the coal yard had seriously regressed. There were only two loading machines. All priority was given to the loading of the base’s vehicles. Jiang Ning’s queue was purely manual loading and unloading.
She waited for several hours before it was her turn. Seventy tons of coal could not be loaded immediately.
The loading was finally completed just as the sun was about to set.
The car could not go fast with a full load of coal.
Halfway through the journey, it was almost dark.
A voice suddenly came from the walkie-talkie. “Sister-in-law, we are being targeted.”
Doudou and her brother led the way. In the dusk, someone was monitoring from a distance on a small path, so she quickly warned them.
Jiang Ning frowned. “From the Tornado Team?”
“No.” Doudou continued to observe. “It should be the evil forces outside.”
Jiang Ning had only been out a few times and had no chance to offend the evil forces.
She was wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet on her head. The car windows were specially replaced with bulletproof ones, but the tires were more troublesome.
But it would be dark soon. If a conflict really happened, self-protection or escape would not be a problem.
However, whether the evil forces were wary of the military truck carrying coal not far ahead or had other plans, they only followed closely without rushing to take action.
The coal had to be stored in the space, so Jiang Ning did not drive to the base but turned and drove towards Dongqiao Mountain.
It got dark quickly, and the two trucks separated from the coal-carrying military truck. The evil forces following them were getting closer and closer.
At a turn in the road where the truck stopped, Jiang Ning went out to rest.
The three people and the dog sat on the ground to rest and took out dry food to fill their stomachs. After eating and drinking, she took out the tent and set it up. “After we finish delivering the goods tomorrow, we can go back to the base to rest.”
Huo Yishen nodded. “This is a remote place and should be safe. We are tired today, so we should rest early.”
After that, the three people and the dog entered the tent, turned off the lights, and rested.
Not long after, thunderous snoring came from the tent—some from people and some from dogs, interweaving like a symphony.
Especially Coke, who slept like a dead dog, and it is estimated that he would not be awakened even if the sky fell.
Shadows quietly approached the tent and drew their weapons.
As soon as the leader approached the tent, he suddenly heard a slight sound from his body. He turned his head and looked back…
In order not to wake the prey, he did not turn on the light and could not see clearly at all.
It was quiet, probably because he was too suspicious.
He stretched out his claws again to lift the curtain of the tent and suddenly felt something cold pressed against the back of his head.
He was so scared that he turned on the light and saw a little girl standing next to the tent. She looked eerie and terrifying in the dark, and she was playing with a weapon in her hand.
And what was pressed against the back of his head was actually a gun.
There was also a muscular dog next to her, staring at his legs and drooling.
In the tent, there was still thunderous snoring.
He realized then that he had fallen into a trap!
The employer said that these people were difficult to deal with, so he had specially summoned a dozen more brothers, but they were all surrounded and knocked unconscious.
That’s right, Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen used ether.
She drew her gun and stepped forward, staring at the only one who was not unconscious, and said coldly, “Tell me, who ordered you?”
Despite the threat, the man kept his mouth shut.
Jiang Ning didn’t say anything more; she raised her hand and shot the man who was lying on the ground, and blood gushed out of his head.
The gun was equipped with a silencer, and it was almost silent in the dark night, but it almost scared the man to death.
Damn, this woman is too cruel!
Jiang Ning didn’t even blink after dealing with more than a dozen people. Then she sent away the second one, and the third one…
“I’ll talk, I’ll talk!” The man’s defenses crumbled. “It’s the Tornado Team. They said they would give us 200 kilograms of food after the job is done, and all your goods belong to us.”
Tornado Team?
Jiang Ning frowned slightly. Were they seeking revenge or acting on someone’s orders?
She had come to transport coal on a whim, but the Tornado Team not only knew about it but had also managed to contact outside evil forces in advance.
And why didn’t they do it themselves but had to let the middlemen handle it?
Two large truckloads of coal could be exchanged for a significant amount of points, and the Tornado Team was so poor they barely had clothes on their backs.
Jiang Ning suspected the Tornado Team was merely a middleman, and they were not in a position to act directly for some reason.
So, who wants to kill her?
Jiang Ning shook the gun. “Ask the Tornado Team to come out.”
The man didn’t even have the courage to refuse, after all, she still had more than a dozen brothers in her hands.
Jiang Ning asked, “Who is your leader?”
The man’s gaze flickered. He was number three in rank, with the leader and the second in command being from the same mother. He was about to point out anyone to replace them, but Huo Yishen said coldly, “Think carefully, or people will die.”
He didn’t dare to hold on to any more luck and honestly revealed the leader’s identity.
Jiang Ning took out a rope, tied up a few fat and thin men, and threw them into the car, leaving only two men for him. “Before noon tomorrow, invite the person in charge of the Tornado Team to Dongqiao Mountain, or I will chop your brothers into meat sauce and feed them to the dog.”
The dog refused to eat the leftover meat but had to give face to its poop scooper. “Woof!”
Full of murderous intent, fangs exposed, it frightened the man, who nodded repeatedly. “Okay, I will do it.”

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
