Jiang Ning was shaken to the point where she saw stars, but luckily the safety belts protected her; otherwise, she would have been tossed around like a rag doll.
The escape pod was moving wildly, and just when her stomach acid was about to erupt, it finally got stuck.
It was dark all around, with only a small view through the circular glass.
The hatch was facing upwards, so she could just look up to see what’s happening outside. The crack in the ground was very deep, so deep that she could only see a beam of light shining down from above.
Jiang Ning looked over and saw that it was at least two or three hundred meters high.
Well, now she couldn’t fly out even if she had wings.
At this point, there was nothing to be afraid of. She turned sideways to Huo Yishen and said, “Mr. Huo, we may have to live in this crack in the ground for the rest of our lives.”
Huo Yishen was also used to it, and he didn’t feel nervous at all. “I’ll stay with you.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the earthquake hit again, causing countless rocks and mud to tumble down.
With a drop of two to three hundred meters, the impact force was unimaginable.
The escape pod was hit by a rock, and it felt like it fell a few meters further.
Fortunately, it was made of aerospace materials and was not flattened by the rocks falling from the sky.
The mud and rocks continued to fall down until they gradually stopped after a few minutes.
Then, the already dim light suddenly went out…
Jiang Ning instinctively looked up and saw that something seemed to be covering the sky above them.
At first, it was transparent, but it grew thicker and darker…
When she realized what it was, Jiang Ning’s eyes widened in shock. She couldn’t help but raise her arms to protect her head and lean to the side.
Waves!
They came in an overwhelming manner, madly swallowing up the expansive land, like water from the sky, rushing down at a speed of three thousand feet and crashing into the cracks in the ground.
The seawater rushed down vertically, and it constantly hit the escape pod.
The escape pod was safe, but the visual impact was overwhelming, like iron fists pounding on her heart.
The escape pod shook violently under the assault.
Jiang Ning stared at the glass, terrified that it might shatter at any moment.
But the quality of manufacturing withstands the test. It remains unshaken despite the earth-shattering force.
The seawater poured in continuously, and the sand and stones continued to sink while the water level soared rapidly…
The escape pod floated up at a speed of 100 meters.
It can only be said that Jiang Ning is not destined to live in the cracks of the earth.
She made the right choice, and choosing the escape pod was the best option.
The collision of the plates loosened the soil, and it creates countless cracks for the underground water to seep upward.
Even if the escape pod fell into the cracks, the shattering and sinking of the plates would trigger a tsunami. The huge impact would cause the soil to roll and stir, but the buoyancy of the escape pod would allow it to float to safety.
Huo Yishen must have anticipated this, otherwise, with a sister to care for, how could he have agreed to spend the rest of his life in a dept of cracks?
Men’s mouths are deceiving ghosts!
In just two minutes, the escape pod floated out of the sea, rolling, spinning, and jumping in the stormy waves…
It flew up, drifting away like a piece of floating duckweed, completely at the mercy of fate.
The light fluctuated, and Doudou felt dizzy from the shaking. “Brother, I want to throw up.”
Jiang Ning unbuckled the double safety belts, reached out, and pulled the curtain of the hatch, and the escape pod fell into darkness.
She asked Huo Yishen to manually modify the curtain.
Then, with everyone inside, the escape pod flashed into the space to avoid the disaster.
She stuffed a plum into Doudou’s mouth. “Hold it, close your eyes and rest; you will be fine in a while.”
Plum candy helps with nausea, so everyone got one.
She also felt dizzy and didn’t know whether it was her body that was shaking or her soul that was floating.
The sour and sweet taste of the plums stimulated their taste buds, and their scattered consciousness gradually soared. Doudou felt much more comfortable.
Jiang Ning turned on the light. “Are any of you injured?”
They each checked themselves. There were no external injuries, just dizziness and the feeling of being squeezed by the safety belts.
Jiang Ning carefully checked on the dog. It was clearly frightened, its eyes dazed, but thanks to the trainer’s protection, it hadn’t gone into a full panic.
It collapsed on the ground and stuck out its tongue. After resting for half an hour, it felt much better.
Jiang Ning used her consciousness to check on the clay pot rice she had thrown in earlier. In the rush, she hadn’t picked a proper place, and it had spilled all over the living room.
Since it was no longer edible, she decided to make a new meal.
This time it was stir-fried yellow beef, so she was not in a hurry and ate it slowly.
After eating and drinking some juice, she made sure both Doudou and Huo Yishen had a quick nap.
They stayed in the space for almost two hours before going out again. The escape pod floated up and down with the waves.
Jiang Ning opened the curtains, and bright light shone in.
The peak of the tsunami caused by the land sinking had passed. All she could see was the endless ocean, with strong winds and waves stretching as far as the eye could see.
Jiang Ning was still a little hopeful, so she took out her binoculars to look for land.
After half an hour of searching, she found no sign of land or mountains.
Even at such a high altitude, it was difficult to escape the disaster. The earth might… no longer have land.
Even if there is, it will sink soon.
It is unimaginable what will happen in the future.
Everyone felt heavy in their hearts and were too tired to talk.
With the raging waves and high winds, it felt like there was no end.
The light gradually dimmed, as if it was getting dark.
Doudou had no appetite and ate less than half of her usual amount.
As the night deepened, she said, “Brother, I can’t sleep, my head hurts.”
Huo Yishen took her temperature and found that she didn’t have a fever.
Her heart rate and blood pressure were a little high, probably because of anxiety and seasickness.
Huo Yishen asked with concern, “I have melatonin; it might help you sleep better. Do you want to take it?”
Doudou nodded, “Yes.”
After feeding his sister the medicine, he touched her head and comforted her, “Seasickness is indeed uncomfortable, but you will get used to it. Don’t think too much, get a good sleep and rest, we will get through it.”
Doudou closed her eyes obediently, but she didn’t let go of her brother’s hand.
Half an hour later, she fell asleep.
Jiang Ning put the escape pod into the space.
It was so shaky that she even felt seasick. Since they were not in the best condition, Jiang Ning endured the nausea and went upstairs to rest.
Huo Yishen carried his sister back to the room. In order to let her sleep more peacefully, he did not forget to light a calming incense.
After a quick shower, he changed into pajamas and lay down on the bed to rest.
Unable to sleep, Jiang Ning tossed and turned, thinking about the uncertain future.
Huo Yishen lay beside her and pulled her into his arms. “What’s wrong?”
“What do you think will happen next?”
Huo Yishen didn’t know and could only hold onto the belief that the natural disaster would eventually end.
If he didn’t believe it, once hope was lost, he really couldn’t hold on.
There was no answer, so they could only endure it.
Jiang Ning calculated the time. The natural disaster had lasted for nine years. The space generated two hours a day. In addition to the time used in these years, there were only 86 days left.
In other words, it was less than three months.
And it was unknown how long the natural disaster would last, and it was even more unpredictable what disaster would happen next.
If they ran out of time and the disaster continued, their lives could be at risk.
So, conserving time was crucial.
The two set the alarm and only slept in the space for four hours.
Seasickness was something to get used to, as there might not be another chance to experience it later.
Sleep is very important, so Jiang Ning also lit a calming incense.
When the time was up, Huo Yishen wanted her to sleep more, so he first carried his sister into the escape pod, then came back to help Jiang Ning change clothes, and also carried her in and fastened her seat belt.
Jiang Ning opened her eyes dazedly, waved her hand, and left the space…

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
Wow she wasted a lot of her time in the space even though she was always talking about saving it. 9 × 365 × 2 ÷ 24 = 273.75. That means she blew 187 days worth of time!
