Huo Yishen may not have understood it before, but after living with Jiang Ning for nine years, he understood everything he should understand.
Jiang Ning did not hide it, “Well, your sister has grown up.”
Huo Yishen was stunned for a moment. He felt a mix of happiness and disappointment.
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Ning touched his chin. “Doudou has grown up; are you still not happy?”
“Of course I’m happy, but I just feel that time has passed so quickly.”
Jiang Ning laughed at him. “Do you feel like an old father who will have to marry off his daughter someday?”
Huo Yishen opened his mouth and held it in for a long time before saying, “Well, you’re also becoming an old mother.”
But no matter what, growing up is something worth celebrating. If their parents in the afterlife knew about it, they would definitely be very relieved.
Raising a child in the last days is not an easy task, especially since Doudou is raised so well; most of it should be attributed to Jiang Ning.
He hugged Jiang Ning and kissed her. “Anning, thank you. You have worked hard all these years.”
In a good mood, Jiang Ning teased him. “So, how are you going to thank me?”
As they kissed, he became more passionate. “Hmm, I’ll give you my life.”
Jiang Ning laughed, “That’s not very sincere. What would I do with your life?”
Huo Yishen thought for a while and whispered in her ear, “I’ll give you my body, is that okay?”
Jiang Ning kicked him. “Be serious.”
She went to give Doudou some sanitary pads, and as she turned back to the door, she gave Huo Yishen a look. “What are you staring at? Get cleaned up.”
After staying in the submarine for five days, Doudou’s menstrual period was over.
Lan Lan had persistently scratched its itch and had finally removed most of the barnacles from its body. It had been two or three days since it’s last appearance.
The seabed was terrifyingly quiet. The marine life outside the observation window had gone from astonishing to monotonous. Even the most beautiful jellyfish or bizarre creatures failed to stir any excitement in the three people and the dog.
Eating in silence, the only sounds were the clinking of chopsticks on plates, the chewing of food, and their breathing.
Even the dog’s snoring had lost its cuteness and was now just irritating.
Jiang Ning realized that the deep-sea claustrophobia had set in.
The strange marine creatures, dim light, and cramped environment would make people feel suffocated if they stayed there for a long time.
In order to alleviate the symptoms, the submarine surfaced.
The open space, warm sunshine, wide view, and soothing music softened the hearts of the three people and the dog. Everyone seemed to be in a better mood.
Jiang Ning sat on the submarine and happily ate melon seeds with Doudou.
Huo Yishen and the dog didn’t like these and patrolled the sea area alternately.
After eating melon seeds, seeing that Huo Yishen is frowning, Jiang Ning asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”
Huo Yishen looked at the sea in the distance. “I have this feeling that something is watching us.”
There is no need to question the sixth sense of the special police, especially those who have lived two lives.
Jiang Ning took the binoculars and looked around in circles twice but found nothing.
Huo Yishen reminded, “Our binoculars aren’t the best.”
Thinking of the strange marine creatures and mutated monsters, Jiang Ning felt a shiver again. “Are you saying that someone is watching us from a farther distance, and we just haven’t noticed?”
Huo Yishen had no evidence but felt a sense of being observed.
And it was an unpleasant feeling.
Jiang Ning had space, and the three of them and the dog could live comfortably, but after all, they were ordinary people and did not stock up on the top equipment, but it did not rule out that others could not do it.
Ordinary people may not have this capability, but what if it is a group or a country?
This is not a joke. There are more than 200 countries in the world. Natural disasters and apocalypse are indeed tragic, but don’t underestimate the will to survive of humans or countries.
“Why is it staring at us?” Jiang Ning frowned slightly. “Is it watching me, and Doudou eat sunflower seeds?”
Huo Yishen pondered. “It’s possible that I’m just too sensitive.”
But’s it’s better to be safe than sorry.
The three of them took a deep breath, and the submarine sank again.
Huo Yishen was cautious. The two drove the submarine away from this sea area, and Doudou and the dog monitored from different observation windows.
There was no movement for the time being.
They sailed hundreds of nautical miles and then they re-docked again.
As night fell, the seabed was dark and lightless.
Jiang Ning sat in the bedroom, flipping through a magazine but couldn’t see clearly. “Do you think it will get harder and harder in the future?”
She was referring to man-made disasters.
Huo Yishen felt that this was inevitable.
Before the land sank, despite the severe man-made disasters, most countries still made every effort to save the world. However, as the tectonic plates broke apart and nations were reduced to mere “territories,” those who possessed advanced weapons and equipment—far superior to what ordinary survivors had—became more prominent.
When survival was at stake, these individuals often discarded their national identities, leading to the potential for even greater man-made disasters.
As resources became scarcer, the plundering intensified.
Even if you don’t provoke others, they might come after you.
Unable to see the future, Jiang Ning could only comfort herself that there will always be a way out.
As the saying goes, what you think about during the day, you will dream about at night.
Jiang Ning dreamed she was being attacked, the submarine was breached and leaking, and the water had risen to her neck.
She was squeezed under the submarine’s hatch, and she couldn’t open it no matter what she did. The cold seawater flooded her nasal cavity…
Her body struggled violently, and she opened her eyes suddenly, but she couldn’t see her hand in front of her face.
“Anning?” Huo Yishen reached out and hugged her. “Did you have a nightmare?”
Jiang Ning gasped for breath, burying her face in his embrace without speaking.
Huo Yishen turned on the light, patted her back gently, and then poured a glass of warm water and handed it to her.
She raised her hand to check the watch, and it was only one o’clock in the morning.
After drinking the water, she tried to go back to sleep but felt restless.
Huo Yishen stretched out his hand and let her sleep with his arm as a pillow.
Listening to his breathing and heartbeat, she eventually fell asleep.
When getting up and changing clothes in the morning, the submarine shook violently. Jiang Ning quickly grabbed the safety bar; otherwise, she would have fallen down.
Lan Lan was back?
No, the impact was much stronger, and it’s even enough to knock someone out.
The two hurried out and ran to the observation windows one and three.
The impact continued, one after another and it’s very persistent.
A massive creature passed by the observation window, and it blocked all the light.
After about ten seconds, with the faint light, Jiang Ning finally saw the true identity of the attacker.
Uh, it was Lan Lan again!
What’s wrong with it?
Jiang Ning continued to observe and saw Lan Lan circling around the submarine, hitting it from time to time.
The force of the impacts was significant for people, but not yet damaging to the submarine.
However, they couldn’t allow it to continue causing trouble.
Doudou came to help, and Jiang Ning was about to drive the submarine away when Huo Yishen came over from the window number three. “Lan Lan was attacked and injured by other submarines.”
Other submarines?
No, Lan Lan was a mutated blue whale. Who would dare to provoke such a massive creature and risk their lives?
“It has a spear stuck on its back, which was fired from the submarine.” Huo Yishen thought thoughtfully. “Lan Lan keeps hitting our submarine; it should be asking us for help.”
“Help?”

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
