The strange thing that knocked over the enemies quickly escaped from the whirlpool. It quickly floated away in the terrifying waves and made a deafening wail.
While the black hole at the seabed continued to expand wildly, as if it wanted to swallow everything in existence.
…
After putting the fully powered submarine into the space, Jiang Ning used a lot of mental energy before coming to a stop.
Fortunately, the submarine was not very fast. If it had been a helicopter at full speed, it would probably have cut the space to pieces.
Of course, this was just Jiang Ning’s speculation; after all, she had never tried to do it, and there’s only one space, so she wouldn’t easily experiment unless it was a life-or-death situation.
The submarine stopped steadily in the space. Seeing that she looked tired and could not stand steadily, Huo Yishen quickly reached out to support her. “Anning, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Jiang Ning hurriedly sat down.
Huo Yishen took out a chocolate, peeled off the wrapper, and stuffed it into her mouth. “Replenish some energy.”
Feeling quite dizzy, Jiang Ning rested her head on his shoulder. “I wonder if those monsters got sucked into the whirlpool.”
“Even if it didn’t, it’s still in for a rough time.”
After recovering a little, the two hurriedly checked Doudou and Coke. “Are you injured?”
Thinking about how the two two falls to the ground, Jiang Ning couldn’t help but want to tear those monsters apart with her hands.
Coke was fine and kept wagging its tail after recovering. However, Doudou felt a little nauseous and wanted to vomit, and her head was dizzy from time to time.
Jiang Ning checked her carefully; fortunately, there was no big problem.
They had been running for a long time, so both their minds and bodies were pushed to the limit.
After fixing the items that fell in the submarine, Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen set the food on the on the table and invited the two to come and eat.
The world is big, but food comes first.
Steamed lion head, Buddha jumps over the wall, swimming crab, braised beef, and seasonal vegetables.
The portion was not small, so the three of them, along with the dog, were full.
After resting for a bit and cleaning up, they went to sleep.
Jiang Ning rested her head on Huo Yishen’s arm and said thoughtfully, “Let’s tell Doudou about the space.”
Doudou was quite smart; Huo Yishen had taught her well, and she was obedient enough not to ask questions.
But that doesn’t mean she knows nothing.
Growing up in an orphanage, experiencing natural disasters in two lifetimes, and seeing the darkness of human nature, Jiang Ning was destined to be sensitive and suspicious. Without the times they had faced life and death together, it would have been difficult for her to trust others unconditionally.
In fact, Doudou could be seen as being raised by her.
The bond they had developed over the years was excellent; Jiang Ning played the roles of sister, mother, and friend, while Doudou, after enduring nine years of hardship, still rushed to save her in times of danger. Instead of harboring resentment when facing threats to their lives, she felt gratitude and reluctance. She even entrusted Huo Yishen to her.
Jiang Ning wanted to laugh: this child was both clever and grateful; she knew everything.
Her decision surprised Huo Yishen slightly. “Are you sure?”
“It’s not that I don’t believe Doudou, but I’m worried about the uncertainty of the future.”
Jiang Ning leaned on his arms. “But today we don’t know what tomorrow holds. Doudou is so smart that trying to hide it from her would be like covering our ears while stealing a bell. It’s better to be honest.”
It was exhausting to always use Huo Yishen as a shield.
As for the future, let’s wait and see.
Who knew if there would even be a future?
“Alright, I’ll talk to her.” Huo Yishen held her tightly. “Anning, no matter what happens in the future, I’ll face it with you.”
The two embraced and fell asleep, feeling close both physically and emotionally.
After waking up, Huo Yishen and Jiang Ning opened the hatch and walked out to check the outer wall of the submarine.
It was indeed strong enough; even if it had been hit, it didn’t show a single scratch.
The two stayed outside for a while, and even the dog crawled out to eat the cabbage planted in the black soil garden, but Doudou never came out.
Jiang Ning returned to the submarine to adjust the equipment in the control room.
Huo Yishen sat on the submarine. “Doudou, come up.”
Doudou, who was resting in the room, finally crawled out of the hatch.
Facing the black soil garden with the fragrance of fruits and vegetables, the lush medicinal fields, the rows of large trucks, and the familiar cruise ships and yachts, Doudou’s face was full of surprise.
Surprised, but not that surprised.
The siblings were sitting in the submarine when Huo Yishen handed her a cup of juice. “Doudou, do you still remember how many times we have escaped life and death with these food, medicinal herbs, and escape tools?”
Doudou drank the juice. “Many times.”
“Sorry, brother lied to you.”
Huo Yishen was frank. “This is space—a gift Anning received during the apocalypse, and it’s not a compensation from Mom and Dad.”
Doudou understood, but not very well. “What is space?”
To be honest, Huo Yishen couldn’t explain it clearly. “It’s like a fairy’s cloth bag; you can put things in and take them out, a place to store things…”
He spent some time explaining Jiang Ning’s space to his sister.
“The space originated before the natural disaster. It was stimulated by the good fortune accumulated by Anning’s ancestors. Perhaps when the end of the world ends one day, it will disappear.”
Doudou thought, “Is it because you also accumulated good fortune that you met sister-in-law?”
Huo Yishen smiled. “Yes, perhaps it’s from my past life’s good deeds.”
He gently put his hand on his sister’s shoulder. “Doudou, the space belongs to Anning. Everything here is decided by her. She shares it with us because she loves us, and no matter how close our relationship is, we can’t take it for granted.”
Doudou nodded. “Yes.”
Huo Yishen taught her through his actions. “The space is just space; it’s used for storage most of the time and for saving our lives in critical moments.”
“But it appears unexpectedly and may disappear at any time. We can’t be lazy and greedy because of the protection of space. What can make us stronger is always ourselves and not relying on external things.”
Doudou looked at the things in front of her, her eyes clear and firm. “Brother, I understand.”
Huo Yishen rubbed her head. “Do you like Anning?”
“I like her,” Doudou said without hesitation. “She’s like my mother.”
Huo Yishen chuckled. “She’s your sister-in-law. Without her, you might not even be here. You have to respect and take care of her in this life, okay?”
Doudou was very happy. “Mhm.”
Jiang Ning checked the performance of the submarine and restored the alarm program. There were no major problems in other aspects.
There were footsteps behind her. Even with her eyes closed, she could guess that it was Doudou.
Unexpectedly, Doudou suddenly hugged Jiang Ning from behind and said excitedly, “Sister-in-law.”
The little girl looked happy and smiled like a blooming flower.
Jiang Ning was in a good mood. “There is delicious food on the table; don’t let it get cold.”
“Thank you, sister-in-law.” Doudou suddenly stood on tiptoe, kissed Jiang Ning on the cheek, and then ran to eat the food.
Huo Yishen, who followed behind her, “…”
Jiang Ning, who was kissed by the little girl, “…”
The two looked at each other, both a little amused.
Seeing Doudou sharing food with Coke, Jiang Ning couldn’t help but hum a tune in her good mood.
Jiang Ning asked in a low voice, “Did you tell her?”
“Mhm, she actually knows everything.” Huo Yishen was in a good mood too. “Our honesty made her so happy that she dared to jump up and kiss you.”
Jiang Ning’s eyes sparkled. “Are you jealous?”
Huo Yishen rubbed his nose. “What do I have to be jealous about? I’m the happiest knowing that you and Doudou get along well.”
Jiang Ning gave him a teasing look. “Tsk tsk.”
Being teased by his wife, Huo Yishen used his body to block what he was about to do and kissed her on the cheek. “Anning, thank you.”
“Thank you for what?”

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
