In terms of professional skills, Liu Cheng is definitely not inferior to others, but when it comes to quick thinking, he’s still a bit slow.
But even if he is slow, he realized something was wrong.
How can there be a large amount of dewy green vegetables in such a large sea area?
He was stunned for a while, and suddenly he shuddered, thinking of the help 2688 gave to 1926, and subconsciously blurted out, “Oh, look at my memory. This bag of medicine is from the southern military base; a friend gave me a different one.
After being apart for so long, I wonder how they’re doing? It would’ve been great if they had come to the New Homeland with us back then.”
As a soldier, Liu Cheng rarely lied, but he was so nervous his palms were sweating, and he struggled to hold eye contact.
The injured man didn’t think much about it. “So, the mysterious person who gave us hope and sent food and supplies came from the southern military base?”
Rong Sanshao suddenly laughed. “Who cares if they’re human or ghost, or where they’re from, as long as they mean no harm. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have gone out of their way to help you in your time of need and let you survive to find a new home.”
“That’s right,” the man said gratefully.
The supplies on the two boats saved more than 500 people, and they would remember that gratitude forever.
After hearing what Liu Cheng said, the mysterious person who helped them should be from the southern military base.
In a time of disaster, meeting such compassionate compatriot made him incredibly proud.
Others sighed, “You’re really lucky. Why didn’t we get to meet someone like that?”
Some were joking and teasing, but who really believed in the ghost ship’s truth remained unknown.
But the look in Rong Sanshao’s eyes when he looked at Liu Cheng deepened with a hint of contemplation.
He knew that Liu Cheng met his sister and brother-in-law at sea.
After waiting for a few minutes, the bleeding really stopped miraculously.
But the injured man couldn’t talk much, and the topic of the ghost ship incident dropped naturally, and the conversation shifted elsewhere.
Before they knew it, it was late at night. Everyone had a very satisfying meal at the gathering. They said goodbye reluctantly and left, and then hurried to catch the last ferry. They had to get up early to move bricks tomorrow.
Rong Sanshao sat at the far end, letting the cold sea breeze hit his face; his mind was in a mess.
Meanwhile, Liu Cheng was lying on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep, recalling the days when he met and got along with 2688 over and over again.
Over on Jiang Ning’s side, she was in a great mood. Doudou had impressed her superiors and was soon going to be transferred to Area A as a reserve officer.
And after coming to the base for a few months, she was much more outgoing than before and made some new friends. They weren’t extremely close, but the other party had no bad intentions, and being able to chat was nice enough.
Jiang Ning also felt good about herself. The hospital was still short of doctors and medicine, but everyone did their best.
The planting of medicinal herbs was expanding, and both she and Ma Guangnian were teaching students.
The base still faced many difficulties, but the future looked promising.
In short, everything was developing in a good direction.
Turning around, she got into Huo Yishen’s arms. “Mr. Huo, are you satisfied with your current life?”
“Very satisfied.”
After living a new life, not only did his family accompany him, but he also gained a lover who would walk hand in hand with him in this life.
How could he not be satisfied?
He couldn’t resist giving her a kiss.
Unable to pull away, their lips stayed together in a soft, intimate embrace.
Jiang Ning didn’t push him away and softly reminded him, “Doudou and Coke aren’t asleep yet.”
It took Huo Yishen a few minutes to calm down. “I’ll come to your dorm at noon tomorrow.”
She poked his waist playfully, gently bit his ear, and whispered, “Come early.”
Huo Yishen, who nearly burned out his CPU, “…”
Falling asleep in each other’s arms, she dreamed of the time before the natural disaster. She and Huo Yishen met in the crowd, and they saw each other at a glance.
They walked through the crowd and smiled towards each other.
Everything was almost perfect—until the alarm clock rang.
Still drowsy yet feeling content, she hurried out of bed.
After sending Doudou off, the two got on the ferry and were about to start a new day of work.
For some reason, Jiang Ning’s eyelids kept twitching.
Seeing her rubbing her eyes, Huo Yishen asked with concern, “Are you feeling uncomfortable?”
Jiang Ning shook her head. “My eyelid keeps twitching and I feel unsettled.”
She had a bad feeling, as if something was about to happen.
In the past ten years, she had experienced a lot of blood and cruelty, but she had never felt this uneasy before.
She opened her mouth to tell Huo Yishen, but she didn’t know what to say.
After getting off the ferry, she saw a new ship added to the dock. The survivors were wrapped in tattered clothes and got off the ship in the cold wind.
The weather was freezing, but their eyes sparkled with hope. Finally, they were stepping onto land, hoping this place would be their new home, the end of their wandering.
The two of them parted ways and went to their respective jobs.
There was nothing to do in the morning, so Jiang Ning went to the plantation to help after checking the ward.
At around ten o’clock, a nurse came running in. “Doctor Jiang, an emergency case from Area F. The patient is severely injured.”
Area F? That’s where patients with mental and physical illnesses are kept.
Though the chances of recovery were slim, Ma Guangnian hadn’t given up on finding treatments for these special patients, hoping one day to develop a cure.
The patient was pushed over by the administrator of Area F. She was covered in blood, stabbed in many places, and her intestines were flowing out. She was barely clinging to life.
Despite the urgency, Jiang Ning did not forget to put on protective clothing.
The patient was skinny and was really just skin and bones, making it impossible to recognize her original appearance.
The female patient was stabbed more than a dozen times by a patient who suddenly went crazy when she came out for a walk.
There were wounds everywhere on her arms, legs, and abdomen, and the wounds were particularly deep. The assailant had clearly intended to kill her without hesitation.
Jiang Ning examined her and shook her head. “You brought her here too late. We can’t help her with this amount of blood loss. Her intestines were punctured, causing a severe abdominal infection. With the existing medical resources at the base, we can’t rescue her at all.”
There was no way to give her a blood transfusion, and there was no medical equipment.
“Jiang… Jiang… Ning…”
The weak patient woke up and looked at Jiang Ning. “Save me, save me, I… I am…”
It was Song Yaling!
If she hadn’t spoken, Jiang Ning really wouldn’t have recognized the skinny figure in front of her.
“I’m sorry, she’s mentally ill.” The administrator didn’t know the relationship between the two and explained to Jiang Ning with some frustration. “She keeps mumbling this name all day, sometimes going crazy and sometimes crying, and I don’t know what she’s talking about.”
Song Yaling stretched out her hand and wanted to grab Jiang Ning.
Jiang Ning avoided her coldly, without any emotion in her eyes.
The fact that Song Yaling had given her life wasn’t an act of love, but rather a choice driven by circumstances. She wasn’t someone deserving of gratitude.
When she had the evil intention to kill her, the already thin family affection completely disappeared.
Seeing her at the base now, Jiang Ning regarded her as a stranger.
Why keep muttering her name? If anything, it was likely to seek special treatment.
Even in this moment, she was still thinking about personal gain.
Jiang Ning looked at the administrator. “How did she get hurt?”

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
