The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies
The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies | Chapter 481: Planting Potatoes in Siberia

Forming an alliance to fight the Russians?

Jiang Ning thought about it and had a good idea which countries these survivors might be from.

There are historical grievances, deep-seated regional hatreds and biases, and power struggles between the top powers.

Understanding this didn’t mean they could let their guard down.

The snow-covered landscape stretched out before them. With people hiding in the snow and staying still, it was nearly impossible to detect them. Defending against them was actually not easy.

Fortunately, they had their loyal dog, and now, Bai Xue too.

Especially Bai Xue, which has lived in the wild for a long time, with vigilance and a sense of smell far superior to humans.

This gave Jiang Ning some peace of mind.

After making sure that there are no problems around, the three of them, along with the two animals, returned to their house.

Before going inside, Jiang Ning checked the outer perimeter of the container. The ice layer was frozen very thick, and the doors had been reinforced with special bulletproof steel plates.

Still, with aggressive survivors around, it was time to strengthen their defenses.

Daytime patrols were set for every two hours, and someone would stand guard at night.

Although the dog has been living carefree these past two months, it’s all because of love. But now that the danger’s back, it’s like its survival and fighting instincts have suddenly come back to life.

Huo Yishen kept watch at night, allowing Jiang Ning and Doudou to sleep peacefully.

With Bai Xue and Coke at home, he didn’t have to spend the night in the snow. He went out every three hours, and the two were always by his side.

Even though Bai Xue was pregnant, she still insisted on patrolling and did not relax because she had found a long-term meal ticket and was taken in by humans.

It becomes even more excited at night and can’t resist howling at the moon.

If Coke hadn’t stopped her in time, Bai Xue would have already started howling.

The night passed without incident. Huo Yishen took a hot bath and went to sleep, while Jiang Ning and Doudou took over the patrol.

Around noon, Jiang Ning climbed the snow hill with the dog. She soon spotted something moving at the edge of the snowy field.

She quickly took out her binoculars, and it turned out to be the same group of Russians from yesterday.

They returned.

They moved very slowly, as if they were dragging something.

They were all equipped, and they soon found Jiang Ning and even waved and said hello to her.

It wasn’t just one of them; they all waved at her at once, doing their best to show they were friendly.

With a cold stare, Jiang Ning raised her sniper rifle.

The dog ran back to alert the others, bringing Huo Yishen and Doudou quickly.

There were six people approaching, dragging two stretchers through the snow, and there seemed to be people lying on them.

Seeing Jiang Ning holding up the sniper rifle, they did not move forward, but sent someone over, as if they wanted to negotiate.

Huo Yishen recognized him—it was the same person who spoke Chinese yesterday.

He wasn’t carrying any weapons and waved as he walked through the snow.

It was over a thousand meters, and the snow was up to the knees, making it really hard to walk.

Jiang Ning debated whether to shoot, but after considering it, she decided not to.

The land is sinking, and more and more people will arrive in the Arctic in the future.

Conflicts and disputes will only become more frequent. Since they came here earlier, it’s fine to check things out first so they’re not left in the dark.

When the man was about 200 meters left, Jiang Ning raised her gun again, signaling him not to approach.

“Dawari.” The other party waved and greeted her while using broken Chinese to show goodwill. “My name is Ivanov. I once studied in your capital and worked there for several years before returning home. I like your culture and food. Your people are friendly and united. I’m here seeking help.”

No matter how much flattery he gave, Jiang Ning didn’t respond; she aimed the cold gun barrel at his head.

Fearing they might not hear him from afar, he pulled out a mini megaphone. “Our companions are critically injured. Do you have any medicine?”

Jiang Ning also took out a megaphone and coldly replied, “No.”

Unexpectedly, Ivanov seemed familiar with Chinese culture. “Oh, dear friend, don’t you know traditional Chinese medicine or acupuncture? Please find a way to help our people.”

Afraid that she might refuse, he quickly added, “We won’t take it for nothing; we’ll repay you.”

Jiang Ning considered this. “With what?”

“We have vodka and ham.”

Oh, even after ten years of natural disasters, they still had alcohol and ham? Life must have been pretty comfortable for them.

Jiang Ning told him to remove his mask.

Ivanov complied, revealing a scruffy, bearded face and a reddish, drinker’s nose.

His worn-out face didn’t look particularly thin, suggesting food wasn’t an issue.

“What kind of injury?”

“Gunshot wound.” Ivanov quickly replied, “We dug the bullets out by hand yesterday, but now they have a fever.”

Jiang Ning took the opportunity. “Who shot you?”

“The Americans, the South Koreans, the Japanese…”

It’s a long story, one that could take three days and nights to fully explain, yet Jiang Ning insisted on asking for every details.

Ivanov could only make it short, “A few years ago, we were planting potatoes and corn in Siberia…”

Thanks to their cold-resilient nature, Russians are naturally resistant to the cold and have expertise in cold-resistant crops. With low population and a large land area, they noticed the coming natural disaster and quickly restricted the export of food.

So, food hadn’t been a big problem in the early years of natural disaster.

During extreme heat, they moved to colder areas. They planted enough potatoes, corn, and wheat to feed themselves and stockpile supplies.

The black soil within the country is fertile, and they have consistently cultivated potatoes, corn, and wheat. Not only did they have enough to eat, but they also managed to store some grain.

Later, the natural disaster became more and more serious. The team of tens of thousands of people was separated in the storm. The ship Ivanov was on was separated, and when they drifted to the Arctic, there were still more than 500 people.

At that time, it had already started freezing, but the ice wasn’t thick enough. They waited another two months until it froze solid.

With high-quality cold-resistant potatoes, they managed to survive.

However, they didn’t expect that, in addition to them, there were survivors from the allied forces.

They were survivors from soldiers of different countries and had even built a underwater base, but Ivanov and his group didn’t notice it.

When they got discovered, conflict broke out immediately.

There were more than 20,000 survivors in the United base. They found the Russians when they were out looking for supplies.

So they immediately showed their nature—robbing.

The Russians, being natural fighters, didn’t care about being outnumbered. They fought with determination, even if it meant going all the way to the last one.

So, the two sides fought repeatedly.

The Russian went from more than 500 to only 100, and the United base also went from 20,000 to more than 3,000.

It’s true that they are a fighting nation, but Jiang Ning thought it sounded too unbelievable. “How did you manage to reduce their numbers from 20,000 to just 3,000?”

“They are dishonest and scheming. They actually bribed our people, and we lost a lot of food…”

Despite historical and regional rivalries, some Russians still admired Western culture. Many were easily swayed by promises of ‘civilization’ and ‘freedom’.

As long as the United base uses a little trick to lure them, they will be easily fooled.

As a result, the entire army was almost wiped out. Fortunately, they fought hard enough to save their lives.

But the losses were severe, and the Russians weren’t willing to accept defeat…
