The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies | Chapter 57: Making A Fish Trap

[edited]

Faced with Su Mengyao’s hypocritical invitation, Zheng Weili remained unmoved.

She pushed her away and effortlessly push Su Mengyao two to three meters away, and she slammed into the wall with a thud. “Get lost! If I were a man, I’d have killed you!”

She’s out there selling herself, and her energy is still so vigorous, she’s like a demon collecting yang and nourishing yin.

Where did she get the guts to be so shameless?

By the time the people from 1202 heard Su Mengyao’s cries, Zheng Weili was already upstairs.

Back on the floor, Zheng Weili complained to Jiang Ning, “I heard her coquettish voice, and goosebumps covered my whole body.

This woman is like a venomous snake, she’s always inciting men to rush forward.

I just gave her a lesson. If she dares to mess with us, I’ll kill her if I have the chance, otherwise she’ll cause trouble sooner or later.”

Jiang Ning nodded. “We need to come up with a plan.”

Unfortunately, she’s gotten smarter, she has learned to hide behind men and not show up easily.

Originally, Jiang Ning wanted Su Mengyao to suffer more in this apocalypse, but it turned out she couldn’t get along with her.

Not long after, Zhong Ping helped Grandma Zhong upstairs.

Jiang Ning didn’t beat around the bush and asked straight away, “Can you make a fish trap?”

Zhong Ping was puzzled. He pushed his glasses and thought for a few minutes. “I should be able to make one, but I don’t have enough materials on hand.”

He was a technology enthusiast, and his house was filled with various electronic components, some bought, some scavenged from the scrapyard. He had also won awards for inventions and led his team in national physics competitions.

A typical child from someone else’s family.

Jiang Ning asked, “Can you gather them?”

“There should be some in the experimental building. A little modification should be done.”

The materials room was on the 8th floor, which probably hadn’t been flooded, but Zhong Ping wasn’t sure if it had been looted.

The research institute wasn’t particularly far, about 10 kilometers if they took a shortcut.

Jiang Ning glanced at Huo Yishen with her eyes, asking if they should do it.

After considering, Huo Yishen said to Zhong Ping, “I can take you back to get them.”

Zhong Ping wasn’t stupid. If they were willing to spend diesel fuel to send him to get materials for making a fish trap so late at night, it definitely wasn’t just to catch a few fish.

Their family was already struggling, so he had to set conditions. “If I make the fish trap, can I have a share?”

His request wasn’t unreasonable. Even Jiang Ning would rack her brains to find a way out.

“With the water so deep, are you sure your fish trap can catch fish?”

“As long as there are fish, I can catch them.” It was just a matter of adjusting the ultrasonic frequency, which was simple.

For the freedom to eat fish, Jiang Ning agreed, “Okay, but this has to be kept secret.”

After so many things, the Zhong family couldn’t afford to be careless. They knew what should be said and what shouldn’t.

“How long will it take to make?”

For Zhong Ping, the structure of a fish trap wasn’t complicated. He had worked on this topic since high school. “As long as the materials are gathered, I can make it tonight.”

It’s better to act early than late. Huo Yishen went back to get the motorboat.

The Zhong family didn’t belong to the 18th floor, and Jiang Ning didn’t want the people in the building to know about it, to avoid unnecessary trouble. She asked Grandma Zhong and Zhong Ping to go downstairs first.

Jiang Ning asked to go along, and Huo Yishen had no objection.

She assigned tasks to 1803: to chop the fish into chunks and marinate them with salt. When she returned, she would coat them with flour and make fried fish chunks, which could last for several days without spoiling.

For the rabbits, they should skin them, clean out the innards, and then put them in the car fridge for preservation and to be eaten slowly.

They descended the stairs quietly. Zhong Ping was already waiting on the sixth floor. He also brought a rubber boat with him.

The people from 1202 were busy consoling the “injured” Su Mengyao and didn’t notice the activity next door.

The motorboat silently left the residential area, its engine humming in the darkness as they headed towards the research and development company.

After about forty minutes, they arrived at the physics research and development institute.

Without exception, the place was in a mess.

Zhong Ping’s face turned pale, and he headed straight to the materials room on the eighth floor.

The door to the materials room had been pried open, and a lot of items were scattered all over the floor.

Zhong Ping used a flashlight to pick them up from the ground continuously.

Research materials are different from daily necessities. Various electronic components are precious to the staff, but for ordinary survivors, they can neither eat nor drink them.

After rummaging through the mess, there wasn’t much that could actually be taken away.

Zhong Ping picked through them, piled up a bunch of electronic components on the table, and took out tools to modify them. “We still need a few things; I’ll go to the lab to get them.”

There were several labs. He dismantled things from some instruments and equipment. “These machines and instruments are expensive, but unfortunately, many of them were flooded.”

Zhong Ping was a cold otaku, he rarely expressed intense emotions, but when he said this, one could feel his sorrow.

Yes, the flood not only swallowed lives but also devoured the treasures of human civilization.

Jiang Ning didn’t understand physics and couldn’t help, so she said, “I’ll walk around and see if there’s anything we can collect.”

In the dim light, Huo Yishen wanted to accompany her, but he was stopped by Zhong Ping. “Help me out. I need to modify this frequency converter.”

Jiang Ning went upstairs. The office desks that could be burned for firewood were dismantled, and the door frames were removed, with packaging everywhere.

She picked up several plastic planting pots and threw them into the space without complaint.

The computers in the R&D room, the instruments in the lab, these were all valuable data.

Jiang Ning might not need them, but someone might need them in the future, and they wouldn’t take up much space anyway.

After visiting several floors, she collected a lot of “junk” that others didn’t want, as well as some imaginative exhibits from the exhibition hall.

Scientific research products were too far from life, and Jiang Ning didn’t recognize them in front of her.

When they returned to the eighth floor, Zhong Ping had already assembled several components.

She didn’t know where he got a casing from, which looked a bit like a frequency converter.

He took out some electronic components he had brought from home from his backpack and tinkered with them for another two hours, finally installing them successfully.

The machine made a sizzling sound, making Jiang Ning uncomfortable. She covered her ears and stepped back.

“The flood is too deep. I’ve increased and deepened the frequency. The frequency range can reach 30 meters during operation. The frequency band is harmless to the human body, but the fish can’t stand it and will float up.”

The only drawback was that it consumed too much power. It could only work for three or four hours before the battery was drained.

With the fish trap ready, Zhong Ping asked, “Where are we going to catch fish?”

“You’ll know tomorrow.”

“Are there a lot of fish?” Zhong Ping was a little anxious and explained, “If manpower is needed, my parents can help.”

They couldn’t find supplies anywhere, but he knew that the 18th floor had abilities, so he wanted to contribute more labor.

No one dared to guarantee how many fish there were exactly.

But tomorrow, someone would need to stay at home. With such a large reservoir, many fish had been washed out, and manpower would definitely not be enough.

“Three people from your family should come out tomorrow at five o’clock, and we’ll meet outside the community at that time.”

With the fish trap completed, Zhong Ping packed the other electronic components into his bag, which might be useful in the future.

He came prepared and he brings more than ten bags and taking everything he could find.

Everyone hadn’t slept yet when they returned to the community late at night. The dog rushed up and hugged Jiang Ning.

Zhang Chao’s stomach growled. “Ah, you’re finally back. We almost starved to death.”

When they entered the house, the smell of fish filled the room, and there were golden fried fish nuggets.

Jiang Ning was puzzled. “How could you starve? ”

Zheng Weili laughed and cried, “Ask Coke.”

In one of the chapters, Our Heroine found ancient wood, jades and treasures had magic energy that was absorbed by her space. The space grew every time she put those treasures inside. Her house has many rooms now and the farming area is quite large.

i don’t understand how MC can stil managed to hoard stuff then later on it’ll say her space has little space, also she hoard stuff that she can’t use nor know how to and thinking that someone might used them yet she doesn’t mind being the lone survivor.

I think the contradiction stems from the fact that she still hopes for humanity to go back to the way it was, while at the same time, having experienced betrayal and the challenges of survival alone in her previous life, she doesn’t mind being selfish and she rather focus on her own survival. Regarding her space, I agree it may sound a bit confusing, but I believe it was mentioned in Chapter 9 that she left some of her supplies in her apartment to free up some space. I’m just not how much she can free up though 😅
