Chapter 15: I Fear Him
Peng Fei rushed over from outside, brandishing a weapon, helped me put my clothes on, and urged, “Xiaomai, let’s go! I got the video! Ah! Quick, it’s looking at you, let’s get out of here!”
My mind was blank, and my whole body felt like it was falling into an ice cellar. Staggering, Peng Fei pulled me down five floors in one breath.
When I got downstairs, I came back to my senses and trembled as I pulled out my phone from my bag. “Call… call 120.”
No matter how awful Wang-gou was, he shouldn’t die.
He couldn’t die under Wen Ye’s claws.
Peng Fei also regained her senses, her whole body shaking in terror. “Yes, yes, I’ll call the police…”
The ambulance and police car arrived quickly. Paramedics carried Wang-gou, covered in blood, down from upstairs, unsure if he was still alive.
Peng Fei and I, still in shock, sat in a classroom on the first floor, being questioned by the police.
Peng Fei explained the cause and effect, and fortunately, she had recorded a video and had chat logs, making it easy to clear our suspicion.
The police officer watched the video repeatedly, raised his head, and frowned. “Do you have wild foxes on your campus?”
Peng Fei shook her head blankly. “I haven’t heard of any, but there are many stray dogs and cats near the cafeteria and library. Several of the puppies are our seniors, and they often ‘audit’ classes in various classrooms.”
A female police officer came over and whispered a few words in his ear. The police officer frowned deeply and continued to ask Peng Fei, “Did you see clearly how the fox entered the office building?”
Peng Fei tilted her head, thinking. “No, it seemed to appear out of thin air. I didn’t even react at the time…”
I listened to their conversation intermittently, my mind filled with the image of Wen Ye with a mouthful of blood and flesh.
“Student.” The police officer waved his hand in front of my eyes.
I came back to my senses, meeting his concerned gaze.
“How are you feeling?”
I looked dazed, shaking my head with a pale face. “I, I’m fine… How is our teacher? Is his life in danger?”
The police officer smiled. “It’s not certain yet. There’s nothing else for you here. You can leave, but you’re both involved in the case, so you’ll have to cooperate with the investigation later.”
Peng Fei agreed readily.
The school leaders also rushed over at this time, showing me all sorts of concern.
On the surface, they comforted me in various ways, but in reality, they didn’t want Peng Fei and me to spread the word about Wang-gou’s sexual harassment. They vaguely promised to let us graduate smoothly and so on.
After the data was transferred to the police, Peng Fei deleted the video. The police officer even praised us for knowing how to obtain evidence intelligently.
In the evening, I ate a little something and then climbed into bed to sleep.
Too many things had happened in the past two days, and I hadn’t rested well. My thoughts were floating outside. Unsurprisingly, I was once again experiencing sleep paralysis.
The little ghost still climbed up from my feet. It looked at me straight with extra malevolence and eeriness. “Miss, I came to find you yesterday. Why weren’t you there? Hehe… Mom said if I don’t take you away, she won’t spare me. Your life fire is very weak today. You can come with me.”
Was it deliberately choosing to harm me when I’m having my period?
The little ghost was afraid of the bracelet under my pillow, so it became smart. It no longer climbed up, but floated into the quilt from my feet!
I couldn’t move, and the aura on its body stung me with ice-coldness. It was like a sticky big loach, clinging to my legs. So disgusting.
Who can wake me up! I’m so scared!
Suddenly, I felt a pain in my calf. The little ghost let out a ‘wah’ sound and popped out of the quilt.
Its mouth with interlocking canine teeth emitted black smoke, and it looked at me fiercely. “Your blood, your blood, why can’t I get on your body!”
I only saw a flash of white light in my peripheral vision. The pillow next to me sank, and Wen Ye, in fox form, jumped lightly onto my quilt, strolling leisurely.
“Of course, you can’t get on her body!”
The instant he spoke, my body could actually move. I sat up nervously, clutching the bracelet in my hand, huddled in the corner of the bed, gasping for breath.
When the little ghost saw Wen Ye, it was like a mouse seeing a cat, trembling and fleeing in all directions.
The fox jumped up, bit the little ghost’s leg in one bite, and slammed it against the wooden cabinet in the corner, making a muffled sound.
The strange thing was, no one in the entire dormitory woke up. Even He Li, who usually slept very lightly, was fast asleep.
The little ghost hugged its head, huddled into a ball. “Don’t kill me… Don’t kill me. I’m just here to play with her. I didn’t hurt anyone…”
Wen Ye stood on the wooden cabinet at ease, his tail swaying behind him, and opened his mouth coldly, “Who is your master?”
“Lin Miao. She wants me to absorb this miss’s yang qi. If I don’t absorb it, she won’t give me anything to eat, but I can’t get close to her…” The little ghost stretched out a pale finger, pointing at me. “Mom also wants me to get on her body and make it look like a suicide.”
I felt cold all over. I didn’t expect Lin Miao to want my life!
“Where is she now!” I asked angrily.
Before the little ghost could speak, Wen Ye jumped lightly from the wooden cabinet. “You can go.”
The little ghost quickly slipped away, leaving me with a blank face.
“Why did you let it go! It’s still going to come and hurt me!” I looked at Wen Ye, who was squatting on the floor combing his fur, and questioned him, pressing my voice down.
Wen Ye was too lazy to look at me and asked in response, “Hmph, aren’t you very tough? You can even be scared to tears by a little ghost?”
Reminded by him, I realized my face was wet.
I wiped it haphazardly. “What did you do to my roommates?”
“I just made them sleep more soundly.” His figure became fainter and fainter, unwilling to say more.
“Wait!” I took the bracelet from the upper bunk and quickly grabbed the fox’s tail to prevent him from disappearing.
Wen Ye turned his head sharply and bared his teeth at me. I was so frightened that I quickly let go and moved three meters away from him. “S-sorry… I have something to ask you.”
He tilted his head slightly, leaving me with a back view. “What’s there to ask!”
I was worried that he would hurt my roommates and pointed to the corridor outside. “Can we talk outside?”
“Hmph, aren’t you afraid of being caught on camera?”
I was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to answer.
That’s right, what if I was caught on camera with this fox? Wang-gou’s matter would be pushed onto me.
Wen Ye turned around, stepping closer with light steps. “Afraid?”
I retreated nervously, my mind full of images of foxes eating people. My back pressed against the wall. Finally, I closed my eyes, raised the bracelet, and warned sharply, “Don’t come over!”
After a long silence, he sneered. “If you’re afraid, don’t act tough. I have nothing to say to you!”
When I opened my eyes again, Wen Ye was gone. I felt as if I had been fished out of the water, and sat down softly on the ground. What had just happened felt like a dream.
I admit I’m very afraid of him now.
——————
Wang-gou’s injury was publicized by the school as a stray dog injury incident. The school didn’t mention a word about the teacher’s sexual harassment of students.
The next day, the school entrusted the rescue station to start cleaning up the stray cats and dogs on campus. They were truly innocent victims.
Due to the Wang-gou episode, Peng Fei and I had a smooth graduation defense.
In the past few days, my sleep paralysis disappeared, Wen Ye hadn’t appeared, and after Zhao Yanzu sent me two thousand yuan, he really didn’t disturb my life again.
As if nothing had happened, I returned to my stable and poor life in the past.
I should have been grateful, but my heart felt empty and stifled.
