Chapter 24: The First Collaboration with the Fox (2)
During dinner, Assistant Fang revealed to us that the game company was actually founded by the Young Master Jiang to escape his father’s control, which is why he moved the company from the capital to this city.
Young Master Jiang received a Western education and doesn’t believe in ghosts or deities, but the haunting in the company has seriously affected its normal operations.
Assistant Fang had no choice but to call Old Mr. Jiang and ask him to find a firm to handle this matter.
To put it bluntly, this exorcism was Old Mr. Jiang asking Assistant Fang to secretly arrange for the firm to deal with it while Young Master Jiang was away on business.
The game engineers are currently working overtime to rush out a new program. If the place is cleared, it will affect the game development progress, and Young Master Jiang will definitely use it as an excuse to quarrel with his father again.
Brother Yuan found it amusing and said, “So, you hired us to do things on the sly.”
“Master, look at what you’re saying. How can you call it ‘on the sly’? Isn’t this the most moderate and appropriate solution at the moment?” Assistant Fang said, looking helpless.
“Being stuck between this father and son, I have to please the old man and the young one. I’ve never been this patient with my wife!”
“I just checked the time, and the program will be finished soon. How about the three masters wait until after nine o’clock?”
Brother Yuan shrugged indifferently, “You’re the client. You’ve already paid. Whenever you want to deal with it is naturally up to you.”
“But one thing, we don’t want anyone disturbing us while we’re working.”
“Okay! I’ll definitely guard the door! The sooner you finish, the sooner I’ll feel at ease… Our Young Master Jiang might come back anytime. I’m worried every day.” Assistant Fang took a gulp of his drink.
“When he gets angry, he’s more terrifying than the King of Hell! I can’t handle it. It’s scary just thinking about it!”
Brother Yuan asked curiously, “Is your young master a rebellious second-generation rich kid? Or was he spoiled rotten by his parents, turning into a good-for-nothing son who specializes in causing trouble for his dad?”
Assistant Fang waved his hand, “Not at all! Our Young Master Jiang made it all on his own. His business acumen is incredible! It’s just that he’s been at odds with his father since he was a child. I heard it’s because Old Mr. Jiang and his wife have always had a bad relationship, so the son hates the father.”
“Eight years ago, Madam Jiang accompanied our young master to study abroad. I heard Madam Jiang also received medical treatment there.”
Assistant Fang was very talkative when it came to gossip, and after drinking a bit of alcohol, he couldn’t hold back at all.
“Young Master returned to China the year before last and doesn’t interact with his father. He started two companies himself. In the past two years, Old Mr. Jiang has been trying to support his son secretly by having people invest in his companies. Young Master Jiang almost pulled a knife on his father when he found out.”
“If you ask me, our Young Master Jiang is just being stubborn. No matter how tough you are, don’t go against money. His father’s money will be his sooner or later, right? Who dislikes having more money?”
Brother Yuan smiled, “Everyone has their own aspirations. He must really hate his father.”
Assistant Fang chuckled, “If I were Jiang Song, I would take all of our Mr. Jiang’s money and run away. Isn’t that more satisfying than arguing back and forth?”
“That’s a petty person’s behavior,” Brother Yuan patted him on the shoulder. “Do you know why you’re just an employee? That’s the difference!
“Little brother, your level is far behind…”
Assistant Fang sighed, “That’s why his father arranged for me, this employee, to come over… Young Master Jiang didn’t make things difficult for me after he found out. To show my loyalty and survive here, I willingly became a useless legal person.”
“If this company goes under, I’ll be the first one to go in. Masters, I don’t want to end up operating a sewing machine in prison. My life and fortune are all in your hands. You must help me, help our Young Master Jiang, clean this up!” He grabbed Brother Yuan’s hand and sincerely pleaded.
Brother Yuan laughed heartily, and the two of them chatted for a long time.
I listened to their conversation absentmindedly, focusing most of my attention on getting food for Wen Ye.
With outsiders present, he couldn’t use his hands, and he couldn’t reach a lot of the dishes, so I had to let him hold a porcelain spoon and put the food on the spoon for him to eat.
Assistant Fang looked at Wen Ye and me, smiling meaningfully, “These young people have so many ways to show affection… Little girl, you take such good care of your boyfriend.”
Before I could retort, Wen Ye glared at him fiercely. Assistant Fang raised his glass with a wicked smile, “You guys continue, continue. I was just interrupting.”
Wen Ye dodged the food I tried to give him again, “I can do it myself.”
I pouted and didn’t bother with him anymore. Anyway, he had eaten almost enough, and I hadn’t eaten much at all!
At nine o’clock in the evening, the city lights were just beginning to shine.
There were still a few offices lit up in the entire building. After Assistant Fang handed the keys to Brother Yuan, he and a security guard stayed on the first floor.
Brother Yuan took a foldable and packable thin windbreaker for me from the car, but I still felt cold when I entered the office, and I was shivering.
“Xiaomai, you guard the door. Xiaohuli and I will go inside,” Brother Yuan instructed. “The office door isn’t secure, and the ghost might escape from here. It’s more suitable for you to guard the door. If anyone comes in, you can stop them.”
“Brother Yuan, I’m a little scared.” I hugged my arms, looking at the office with only a few lights on and the dim corridor, and all the hairs on my body stood on end.
I felt like there was a pair of eyes staring at us from the darkness.
Wen Ye gave me a cold look, “What about the imposing manner you have when you argue with people? All bark and no bite!”
I secretly grinded my teeth, wanting to scratch him.
Brother Yuan took a small black flashlight from his bag and handed it to me, “This is a small electric baton for self-defense. Just don’t aim for the head, you can shock anyone… Take out the paper talismans from your bag…”
I did as I was told, holding the small electric baton in one hand and the talisman in the other.
“Alright, you are a female warrior now, immune to both humans and ghosts. We’re going in,” Brother Yuan patted my arm, cheering me up with a smile.
“…”
I’m not usually afraid of the dark or horror movies, but when I think about the fact that there’s a real little ghost inside who has harmed me, and it might pop out at any time, it’s hard not to be scared.
Wen Ye and Brother Yuan’s voices faded into the distance. I perked up my ears like antennas and stared with eyes as big as copper bells, looking around with a weapon in each hand.
Little ghost, don’t suddenly scare me, or I’ll put a face mask on you.
Da da… rustle…
My ears twitched. In the silent office, my hearing was especially sensitive.
Rustle…
The sound rang out again, and I located the source of the sound—the office area to the left of the entrance.
“Who! Who’s there!” I suppressed my fear and asked calmly.
But my trembling voice betrayed my acting skills.
Da da…
“I’ve already seen you, come out quickly!” I held up the small electric baton and talked nonsense.
After a rustling sound, a person stood up from under the desk—it was the male employee who was shivering and wrapped in a blanket this afternoon.
“Why haven’t you left yet? Isn’t it already off work?” I put down the small electric baton, puzzled.
The male employee looked to be in his thirties, with a slightly chubby face and black-rimmed glasses, looking very much like a programmer.
He was trembling all over, his face was pale, and his teeth were chattering, making a ‘da da’ sound.
“I still have a bit of work left to finish. Mr. Jiang is urging me, so I thought I would finish it before leaving,” he said earnestly.
“Then why were you hiding under the desk?”
“I heard your voices just now, and I thought it was a thief…”
