Chapter 5: Moving into a Luxury Residence
“This, this, this is where I’m going to live?”
Looking at the luxurious, sprawling apartment in front of me, I was dumbfounded, as if floating on a cloud.
Was I dreaming?
Heavens, this is the kind of house that domineering CEOs live in in romance novels!
Zhao Yanzu ran his finger across the island counter, looked at the dust on his hand, and muttered with a frown, “What kind of lousy cleaning company is this? There are still dead corners!”
After speaking, he took out his phone, looking like he was going to complain.
I excitedly volunteered: “Brother Yanzu, I’ll clean it up later! I’ve been doing laundry, cooking, and cleaning since I was a kid. I can handle this little bit of cleaning… To be honest, I almost applied to be a cleaner.”
He paused his action of swiping on his phone, tilted his head and asked, “Aren’t you a college student? Why are you so hard on yourself?”
I shrugged, telling the truth nonchalantly: “It’s because I’m poor. I have to support myself first. I also have student loans to pay back, and I have to support my great-grandmother. How can I afford to be picky about jobs? And there are college students everywhere now. Graduates from unaccredited universities like me, who didn’t have outstanding grades in college and whose major isn’t popular, can only focus on surviving.”
I had a clear understanding of myself. Although there were more opportunities in first-tier big cities, they were far from home. My great-grandmother was old, and I had to stay with her.
Xicheng was only three hours away from my hometown by car. I could go back whenever I wanted. If I could find a good job, I would work hard to earn money and save money, and rent a house to bring her over in the future.
If there really wasn’t a suitable job, I would grit my teeth and save up the loan money to return to my hometown and inherit my great-grandmother’s half-dead traditional Chinese medicine shop. Living a simple life every day would be pretty good.
As for my parents asking me to send two thousand yuan back every month, I would definitely not bite off more than I could chew. If I had it, I would send it to them. If I didn’t, then so be it.
Anyway, they were afraid of my birth chart, especially my mother. She definitely wouldn’t dare to take the initiative to look for me.
A certain emotion flashed through Zhao Yanzu’s eyes, but it was definitely not sympathy.
He smiled faintly: “What you just said sounds like you have no ambition, but in Taoism, it’s the mindset of wu wei (non-action) governance.”
Wu wei governance? Are you mocking me for lying flat?
“I’m praising you.” Zhao Yanzu handed the key to me, “Otherwise, how could you find such a good job?”
I thought to myself, this job didn’t fall from the sky. You actively found me and gave it to me, right?
I pinched the key, and asked curiously: “Brother Yanzu, is it because of my birth chart that you kept me?”
He nodded, and said frankly: “That’s right, a full Yang birth chart is very rare.”
“But my birth chart is very rigid…”
He shook his head to interrupt me: “Whether it’s rigid or not depends on who you’re targeting. If that’s how fate is, you don’t need to harm anyone, and that day will come sooner or later… People always push the blame on others.”
This was the first time someone had said such a thing to me. The deaths of my grandparents had always been a thorn in my heart.
My mother’s words, “Your parents were killed by her jinx! Do you want to see me killed by her too! Do you want the old Le family line to end?” were like a curse, always jumping out in the dead of night, gripping my heart.
And Zhao Yanzu’s words were like a valve releasing water, giving my guilt and self-doubt an outlet to vent.
I suppressed my excitement and said with a slightly choked voice: “Thank you, Brother Yanzu.”
He patted my shoulder, comforting me, “You may be a Black Widow in other people’s eyes, but to me, you’re a mascot.”
“Alright, mascot, I’ll leave this to you. I’m leaving. You can move in whenever you want…”
He suddenly slapped his forehead, picked up his phone and swiped it twice, then raised his head and said, “You have to come here for a night tomorrow.”
I restrained my emotions and asked in confusion, “Why?”
“There will be thunderstorms tomorrow. My child is afraid of thunder.” Zhao Yanzu rubbed his hands, a little embarrassed, “You may have to guard him for a night.”
I was very curious. He’s an adult and still so afraid of thunder? Could he have been struck by lightning before or had some kind of emotional trauma?
However, in the spirit of loving my job and being dedicated, I nodded: “Okay, I’ll come over tomorrow.”
Zhao Yanzu transferred 40,000 yuan to me on WeChat: “30,000 is your salary, and the remaining 10,000 is for the two of you for a month’s living expenses. Buy whatever is missing in the house yourself. Contact me again if it’s not enough.”
Looking at the unexpected windfall, my hands trembled with excitement, and I hesitated to click receive, feeling that everything was going too smoothly.
“Don’t you need to sign a contract? Aren’t you afraid that I’ll run away with the money?” I looked at him in disbelief.
Zhao Yanzu said “Oh” and said: “Take a picture of your ID card and bank card and send them to me. I’ll pay for your insurance and open a provident fund account.”
“I will deposit your salary and living expenses into your account on the first of every month.”
“Run away with the money? First, you won’t.” He shook my ID card and gave a sly smile. “Second, even if you run away, I’m not afraid. I love playing cat and mouse games the most.”
I swallowed hard, stood at attention, and swore with three fingers raised: “Brother Yanzu, please rest assured, I will work hard and take good care of the young master! From now on, his life is more important than Le Xiao Mai’s! I guarantee that he won’t suffer even the slightest bit of injury! He is my heaven, my earth, my air…”
“Alright, alright! What nonsense are you talking about!” Zhao Yanzu said amusedly, interrupting me. “It’s not like I’m asking you to go to the battlefield. Just treat the… young master as a friend and teach him how to be a person.”
Teach him how to be a person? I’m too good at that!
“What’s the young master’s name? Is he not at home now? Should I say hello to him?” I was eager to try, looking towards the bedroom.
“He’s still getting his wounds treated at my place and will come over tomorrow.” Zhao Yanzu frowned, “His name is… Ugh, you can ask him yourself tomorrow.”
“Choose a room yourself, but since you’re a girl, don’t choose too big of a room.”
I nodded: “I know. My great-grandmother said that a person’s aura is only about forty square meters. A bedroom that is too big has weak human presence and weak Yang energy, and the feng shui is bad.”
“You know a lot.” He smiled. “I’m leaving. Familiarize yourself with the environment.”
The sound of the door closing fell, and I pinched my arm hard—Ouch, it’s not a dream!
I turned around and surveyed the more than 200-square-meter luxury mansion and screamed excitedly: “Ahahaha! Le Xiao Mai has this day too! Hahaha! God, have you finally remembered that there is a Le Xiao Mai in the world who needs you to love her?”
Did the sentence ‘rise to the top in one step’ that I said to Lin Miao in the morning come true?
I ran around the house excitedly, ran a circle, and collapsed on the sofa, exhausted, lamenting that the house was too damn big!
After a while, recovering from the excitement, I immediately threw myself into work.
The house had been cleaned by a cleaning company before, and it was very clean. Only some dead corners were not handled well, so it was not troublesome to clean up.
After cleaning up, I also chose the south-facing, sunny secondary bedroom as my room.
The area was the smallest of the four bedrooms, but it also had an independent bathroom and cloakroom.
Thinking that the young master should live in the largest master bedroom, I cleaned the master bedroom spotlessly, to the point where I could lick the floor, and even changed the brand-new four-piece set.
Finally, I sprayed air freshener in his room before leaving contentedly.
To thank my roommates for their help, I spent a lot of money to buy six cups of milk tea and matcha chocolate cake, without leaving out Lin Miao’s share.
One was because I was happy, and the other was because I don’t hold grudges unless my bottom line is touched.
We can quarrel and fight, but once the heat passes, I can still laugh and drink with you.
But the diversity of species determines that not everyone thinks so openly.
When I returned to the dormitory and saw the bedding stained with black ink and red nail polish, I knew it was Lin Miao who did it!
The culprit walked past me, twisting her hips triumphantly, and I immediately threw the milk tea I bought for her on her fair breasts.
Damn it, here’s your milk tea!
