Chapter 17: Azure Wolf White Flame
Zhang Da Niang worked quickly, tidying up the bedroom in no time.
Lao Zhao took care of the courtyard and the eastern kitchen, never venturing into the main bedroom.
Once the cleaning was done, the couple busied themselves with cooking. Today’s dish was a hearty stew of goose in an iron pot, and their culinary skills were impeccable.
Xiao Ranshu finally had something to do as well. She grabbed the Husky by its two front legs and dragged it to the water vat in the center of the courtyard.
It was quite heavy!
She decided to give the Husky a bath while it was still unconscious.
Having never owned a dog before and with no pet hospitals around, she had to figure things out on her own.
Fortunately, the Husky was tough. Despite its bloodied appearance, it had no visible wounds. After a thorough rinse and wipe, its fur felt surprisingly soft.
Zhang Da Niang finished cooking and came out to the courtyard, only to see the large wolf-like dog lying on its side at the Fairy’s feet, its mouth open to reveal sharp fangs.
The sight was terrifying!
Zhang Da Niang hesitated before asking, “Fairy, are you really going to keep it?”
Xiao Ranshu nodded. “Yes.”
In this world without phones or computers, she felt lonely staying alone on the mountaintop. She was socially awkward with people, but with a dog, it was different.
Lao Zhao also came out and suggested, “Fairy, should we put a leash on it?”
He was afraid the wolf might wake up and bite someone.
Xiao Ranshu agreed. “Yes.”
Walking a dog without a leash would only bring tears to passersby.
Lao Zhao and Zhang Da Niang immediately rolled up their sleeves and tied the Husky up tightly, securing it to a pillar in the courtyard.
The Husky was completely unconscious, showing no signs of struggle, and its eyes remained shut.
Lao Zhao said, “Fairy, it’s tied up securely. It definitely won’t break free.”
Zhang Da Niang, still uneasy, pointed to a wooden stick in the corner. “If it misbehaves, just give it a whack.”
Xiao Ranshu nodded.
Though she had never owned a dog, she knew a bit about training them. In the world of dogs, hierarchy was clear.
And Huskies were notoriously disobedient and destructive.
Discipline was necessary—she had to show it who was in charge!
After Zhang Da Niang and Lao Zhao left.
Xiao Ranshu went to the eastern kitchen’s dining hall to eat. The goose stew in the iron pot was incredibly fragrant!
With no one in the courtyard, it was quiet. The Azure Wolf’s ears twitched.
Soon, a pair of deep blue eyes opened.
The Azure Wolf first assessed its situation, then looked around to recall its surroundings and memories.
The Eight Dogs Contest had been brutal. The Azure Wolf clan had faced annihilation, hunted to extinction.
It was the last of its kind.
Driven by resentment and a desire for revenge, it had fled, only to collapse from severe injuries after falling from an Ice Wall…
The Azure Wolf shook its head, stood up, and easily broke free from the tightly bound ropes.
It noticed that its injuries had completely healed, though its body still felt weak.
The Azure Wolf remembered encountering a God Lord before losing consciousness. Had the God Lord healed its wounds?
Unfortunately, it hadn’t seen the God Lord’s face and didn’t know which deity it was.
The God Lord had been accompanied by two Spirit Seats—one with the Azure Ox Saint Physique, and the other a talkative Cinnabar Chicken.
Wait, no… it didn’t seem like a chicken…
The Azure Wolf couldn’t recall the details clearly.
It only remembered the two Spirit Seats urging the God Lord to take on another Guardian Spirit, but the God Lord had remained silent, clearly refusing.
Of course, with the Azure Ox Saint Physique already following him, why would he want a lone wolf with no clan backing?
But the God Lord had spared its life and brought it here for a reason.
With that in mind, the Azure Wolf turned its gaze toward the eastern kitchen, where sounds were coming from.
After a moment of thought, it took a step forward and walked in that direction.
In the dining hall.
Xiao Ranshu was gnawing on a goose leg, braised to perfection and incredibly delicious. She had already eaten half a bowl of rice.
While enjoying her meal, she looked up and met a pair of sapphire-like eyes.
Under the sunlight, they shone with an extraordinary brilliance!
Clatter—
The chopsticks in her hand fell onto the table, and Xiao Ranshu was stunned.
Wasn’t the Husky tied up in the yard?
How? What?
It walked to the door by itself?
Where’s the rope!
While Xiao Ranshu was in shock, Azure Wolf was even more astonished.
In its deep blue eyes, emotions shifted from astonishment to excitement, and finally to gratitude.
It didn’t know who the person before it was, nor could it see through the mysteries of her soul with its divine vision, but it could sense an incredibly pure energy emanating from her.
Ancient and majestic!
Like the vast and inviolable Mother Earth, or the sacred and unquestionable Heavenly Dao.
Even just breathing near her had a healing and restorative effect, let alone the long-term benefits for cultivation.
At this moment, Azure Wolf’s gratitude reached its peak!
The God Lord had brought it before this person…
So that’s how it was. It understood now.
Azure Wolf lowered its head and slowly knelt on all fours.
Xiao Ranshu was initially startled to see the dog at the door, but she didn’t expect the Husky to lie down.
“Huh?” she exclaimed in surprise, “You’re so well-behaved!”
Azure Wolf was taken aback. Well-behaved?
Xiao Ranshu glanced at her side, picked up a bone, and waved it. “Want some?”
Azure Wolf tilted its head, its gaze fixed on the meaty bone.
Xiao Ranshu smiled and tossed the bone toward it.
Azure Wolf stretched its head and caught the bone in its mouth, chewing and swallowing it in a few bites.
Xiao Ranshu was thrilled. “You caught it so accurately! Here’s another one!”
So, as she ate, she kept tossing bones over, and each time, Azure Wolf caught them without fail, never letting a single bone fall to the ground, as if it had a fastidious cleanliness.
By the end of the meal, both the girl and the dog were full.
Xiao Ranshu was in a very cheerful mood.
The Husky was unbelievably well-behaved; there was no need for sticks or dog training methods.
It felt like the world was tailor-made for her—everyone she met was kind, and even the dog was a good one.
Xiao Ranshu got up and walked out of the dining hall, and the Husky followed closely, staying right by her side.
Only then did Xiao Ranshu realize how big the dog was—more than twice the size of a regular Husky. Though it was gentle, its tail didn’t wag but hung low as it walked.
It really did look like a wolf!
She didn’t need to crouch; she could easily reach its head with her hand, and its fur was soft and fluffy.
Every time she petted it, Azure Wolf remained still, deliberately closing its mouth and retracting its fangs.
Xiao Ranshu patted its large head and laughed, “Looks like your bloodline isn’t pure!”
Azure Wolf: “?”
Xiao Ranshu: “You don’t destroy the house, don’t bark randomly, and don’t run off. That’s great. I like quiet, obedient dogs.”
Azure Wolf blinked, pondering.
Quiet, obedient…
Good.
The more Xiao Ranshu looked at it, the more she liked it. She asked, “Do you have a name?”
A hint of sorrow flashed in Azure Wolf’s eyes.
A name…
The annihilation of its clan had come too suddenly, and it hadn’t yet participated in the naming ceremony.
There were no elders left…
Xiao Ranshu stroked the fur on its head, which formed the standard “three flames” pattern.
She said, “I’ll give you one. You’ll be called White Flame!”
Azure Wolf’s heart slowly rippled with emotion, as if something was taking root and sprouting.
White Flame? White Flame.
Once again, it knelt on all fours, lowering its head as tears welled up in its eyes.
Thank you, Master, for bestowing this name!
Xiao Ranshu: “Great, I have a dog now.”
She happily wrapped her arms around the dog’s neck, giving it a tight hug and rubbing its fur, even planting a kiss on its cheek.
Although the dog was a stray, it had quickly bonded with her. After a bath, it smelled fresh and had no trace of dog odor. It even knew not to let bones fall on the floor.
Xiao Ranshu was absolutely delighted!
White Flame’s pupils contracted, and its eyes widened as it tilted its gaze toward its master, who seemed to have “gone crazy” in its eyes.
Xiao Ranshu burst into laughter: “Hahaha! Your expression is exactly like a Husky when it’s being silly! So goofy and hilarious!”
White Flame: “…”
What on earth is a Husky?
