Chapter 27: Souls Have No Gender, Only Yin and Yang
Xiao Ranshu was pleasantly surprised, never expecting the owner of the medical hall to be so kind.
She took the wooden box and imitated the other’s gesture, cupping her hands in gratitude: “Thank you!”
Xu ChengGen waved his hand with a smile and asked, “You’re too polite. Where are you from, Lady Xiao?”
Coming out of the inn with a carriage, it was clear she wasn’t a local of Rong City.
He had merely asked casually, but the answer he received was astonishing.
Xiao Ranshu: “My home is on the peak of Ling Mountain.”
Xu ChengGen: “!!”
He was stunned!
Of course, Xiao Ranshu had no idea of the whirlwind of thoughts in his mind, still marveling at the kindness of people in the world.
Touched!
But her long-term social anxiety made her unsure how to interact with people or express her gratitude accurately.
Meanwhile, Xu ChengGen was still in shock, his mind filled with the mysteries of Ling Mountain and the news he had just learned this morning—that Second Young Master Yan had apparently led the Rong City Guardian Army out of the city…
Could something have happened?
For a moment, neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere became awkward.
The doctor beside them was feeling uneasy. Earlier, he had been solely focused on diagnosing and joking about the incense on the patient’s head, never expecting the owner to come out.
And even gift such expensive cultivation materials?
The doctor rubbed his eyes and observed more carefully.
This observation was startling!
The lady stood there, unsmiling yet exuding an imposing aura.
So aloof!
The doctor didn’t dare to make a sound, trembling in fear.
Finally, Xiao Ranshu racked her brains and came up with a few words of gratitude: “Boss Xu, with your benevolence and skill, you are destined to become immensely wealthy in the future.”
After saying this, she herself breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t easy.
Then, she turned to the doctor beside her.
The old Chinese medicine doctor was startled, bowing awkwardly, unsure of what to do.
Xiao Ranshu continued: “Xu Rentang saves lives and heals the world. The doctors here are miraculous healers and will surely become renowned worldwide.”
Even her laziness could be diagnosed—what else could they be if not miraculous?
Old Chinese medicine doctors are truly remarkable!
Her words made the doctor blush.
He was startled, realizing she was actually praising him…
Xu ChengGen snapped out of his daze and bowed: “Thank you for your kind words.”
He said no more, but his expression was complex as he watched Xiao Ranshu leave.
Was she the woman from Ling Mountain?
From that distant glance, Xu ChengGen had felt the mountain was sacred, not a place for ordinary people to tread.
Fate is truly wondrous!
Returning to the carriage, Xiao Ranshu was in high spirits. She lifted the curtain and took out the medicine from the wooden box, about to hand it over, when she noticed Quanyue huddled in a corner of the carriage, almost in tears.
Xiao Ranshu: “?”
What the hell?
What was he so afraid of?
Quanyue was genuinely terrified. The powerful aura from the second floor had frozen him in place.
Hot!
Extremely hot!
Just one glance had made Quanyue feel as if his soul was being scorched!
When the carriage curtain was lifted, he instinctively trembled in fear.
But upon seeing it was Xiao Ranshu returning, Quanyue excitedly crawled over in a few steps, grabbed her hand, and cried out: “Master!”
His voice was filled with relief.
He had been scared to death and nearly burned to death. Only by staying close to Xiao Ranshu could he feel any coolness.
And Xiao Ranshu’s hand brought him complete comfort, as if he had returned to the depths of the sea.
Nourishing his injuries.
Quanyue immediately sensed something unusual about Xiao Ranshu.
He looked up in confusion, his pink eyes meeting Xiao Ranshu’s gaze.
Xiao Ranshu looked at his strikingly unusual appearance and asked, “Are you male or female?”
Quanyue’s pupils contracted, and he hurriedly let go of her hand but didn’t answer.
Xiao Ranshu didn’t press further and handed him the ointment. “Never mind, it’s not important. Apply the medicine yourself. I’ll go buy some more things.”
Quanyue obediently took it. “Mm.”
After closing the carriage curtain, Xiao Ranshu thought about buying a copper pot to have hotpot back at the mountain-top residence.
Now that she had the medicine, the misunderstanding about the demon beast was cleared up, and even the owner of the medical shop was a kind person.
This world was still quite safe!
The tension from last night was gone, and she began thinking about how to live a comfortable life.
But just as she turned around, she saw a young man and woman approaching.
The man was dressed in flamboyant, exaggerated colors, walking with an arrogant swagger.
The woman beside him was adorable, seemingly very young, her height only reaching the man’s waist.
A little loli.
Both of them were smiling, heading straight for Xiao Ranshu.
Xiao Ranshu blinked, confused and puzzled.
She didn’t know these two. What were they smiling about?
Wait! Could the Original Owner have known them?
So she stood still, waiting to see how things would unfold, wondering if she should pretend to have amnesia.
But she overthought it.
The man stepped forward and said, “I am Chi Xian. May I ask the lady’s name?”
Xiao Ranshu breathed a sigh of relief and replied, “I’m Xiao Ranshu.”
Chi Xian theatrically waved his folding fan and smiled. “Xiao Ranshu, what a lovely name.”
Xiao Ranshu stayed silent, observing the two.
Siblings?
Chi Xian spoke again, “I overheard your earlier conversation and found it quite interesting. Could you enlighten me?”
This made Xiao Ranshu even more puzzled.
She asked, “Which part?”
Chi Xian chuckled and pointed at the carriage behind her. “Why does it not matter whether he’s male or female? What if he’s a genderless monster?”
“Oh, that…” Xiao Ranshu thought for a moment and answered, “There’s no fixed gender in this world. He can be whatever he wants to be. It doesn’t affect his work for me.”
Chi Xian’s eyes lit up. “Your perspective is so unique!”
Xiao Ranshu waved her hand. “Thanks for the compliment.”
Nonsense, she had spent years online and loved reading about bizarre stories.
What’s the big deal about being genderless?
Platypuses have 25 genders!
Chi Xian glanced subtly at the second floor of the teahouse, his smile turning sly. “By the way, Miss Xiao, I just remembered a funny myth. Would you like to hear it?”
Xiao Ranshu was intrigued. “Sure.”
She was interested in myths and legends.
Chi Xian swayed his fan. “There was a powerful deity who reincarnated to cultivate. But after nine lifetimes, he kept being reborn as a woman. Haha!”
Xiao Ranshu tilted her head. “And then?”
Chi Xian’s laughter paused. “Huh? Why aren’t you laughing? A man reincarnating as a woman isn’t funny?”
Xiao Ranshu shook her head. “It’s perfectly normal.”
Chi Xian was taken aback. “How is that normal?!”
Xiao Ranshu replied, “Souls have no gender, only yin and yang.”
Clink—
The teacup on the second floor of the teahouse clinked.
A ripple of energy unexpectedly emanated from Ji Juexiu’s body, shattering the teacup and spilling water across the table.
Ji Juexiu paused, looking at his fingers.
In that very moment, the barrier that had trapped him for a millennium loosened.
His eternally calm heart stirred with a ripple of emotion.
He turned his head, his gaze fixed on Xiao Ranshu in the street below.
“What a profound statement—the soul has no gender, only yin and yang!”
Inside the carriage.
Quanyue felt an overwhelmingly terrifying pressure, as if he had been thrown into molten lava. His entire body burned, and his skin erupted with dense, scaly patterns!
Help… me…
He was about to be scorched to death!
Fortunately, Ji Juexiu only glanced at him briefly before averting his gaze, and the rippling energy gradually subsided.
Everything returned to calm.
Quanyue, curled up in a corner of the carriage, gasped for breath, drenched in sweat, the lingering fear refusing to dissipate.
Already severely injured, he felt as though he was on the verge of death…
