I Am a Priest in a Beastman World
I Am a Priest in a Beastman World Chapter 16

Grass Stem

The first thing Cheng An did when he got up and opened his eyes was to pull away the big tail that was wrapped around him, then take a look at the seeds he had planted. After that, he would run to the cave entrance and look out through the gap to see what the weather was like today.

Cheng An has been lucky recently. God is always on his side, as if there is really a beast god helping him.

It was still white outside. Although the sun was not out, the snow had stopped falling.

Cheng An was so happy that he ran back to the bed and called Yu to get up.

“Yu! It’s not snowing outside today. We can go to the hillside!”

However, no matter how happy Cheng An was, he remembered that his paws were dirty, so he didn’t jump on the bed. Instead, he put his two front paws on the edge of the bed and used his mouth to reach Yu’s big tail, “Yu! Get up quickly! The sun is shining on your butt! Don’t sleep!”

Cheng An’s original intention was to hold Yu’s big tail and drag him out of bed.

However, Cheng An did not drag Yu, but ate a mouthful of fur.

“Pfft!” Cheng An frowned and spit out the fur in his mouth.

Yu got up after hearing the noise. He saw Cheng An lying on the bed with a sad face and spitting out fur.

He didn’t know how he could make so many rich expressions on his furry face.

“What’s wrong?” Yu changed into a human and put on an animal skin. He got out of bed and picked up Cheng An then walked to the fire and lit it.

With a crackling sound, the spark of the flint ignited the broken wood. The fire grew bigger, and the brightness in the cave increased significantly.

“Yu, it’s not snowing outside, we can go to the hillside to find grass!” Cheng An had already spit out all the fur in his mouth. He regained his spirit, and his tail was shaking. It was obvious that this wolf cub was very excited.

“It’s not snowing?”

“Mm! I’m not lying to you! If you don’t believe me, come and see!” Cheng An gently bit Yu’s finger and tried to lead him to the cave entrance.

“I don’t not believe you.” Yu pulled back his hand and patted Cheng An’s head. “You just got up, are you going without eating? Aren’t you hungry?” Yu touched Cheng An’s soft belly.

“Not hungry, not hungry! Let’s go quickly, or it will snow! It’s hard to walk in heavy snow.” Cheng An shook his head. He could handle skipping a meal! He was no longer the wolf cub who had to eat several meals of meat paste every day, and would cry loudly if he had nothing to eat.

“Okay.” Yu couldn’t stand Cheng An’s pleading, “Wait a minute. I’ll cook the soup and go.”

The stone pot cooks things very slowly. If you eat breakfast and then go, he didn’t know how long it would take, but it doesn’t take much time to cook the food first.

Yu took the meat skillfully, washed it, cut it into small pieces, and threw them into the stone pot. Then he buried a few pieces of taro in the wood ash and prepared to take Cheng An out.

Cheng An looked at the fire and then at Yu, and couldn’t help asking, “Will there be any trouble if we do this?”

“What’s the matter?” Yu had already changed back to his beast form, lying down and waiting for Cheng An to come up. Hearing this, he looked back at the stone pot. “I’ve set it up, the stone pot won’t fall over.”

“No, I mean, if no one is watching, will the fire get bigger and bigger, and then burn our cave?” Cheng An was a little worried and walked around the fire.

“No, don’t worry, it won’t burn.”

Hearing Yu say this, Cheng An was completely relieved and sat on Yu’s back consciously.

It’s still safer to sit on the back, and it’s enough to sit on the head once. Hehe, it’s nice.

Yu also breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, Cheng An didn’t make a fuss about sitting on his head like yesterday, because he couldn’t control his balance that way. He didn’t dare to tilt his head, for fear of shaking Cheng An off.

 “Are you sitting well?”

“I’m sitting well, let’s go quickly.”

As soon as he stepped out of the cave, Cheng An felt much colder, so he simply lowered his head and buried it on Yu’s back. Mm, it’s much warmer this way!

Luckily, Yu was there, so he didn’t have to walk on the ground.

Otherwise, his paws would be too cold!

The snow at the bottom had been falling for a long time and had been frozen, so the road was relatively easy to walk on.

Yu asked Cheng An to sit tight and not move around, so that he could quickly get to the hillside with fine grass.

Yu had a good brain. Although the heavy snow made the road less recognizable, he quickly locked the place based on his memory.

Cheng An noticed that Yu’s speed slowed down, looked up and asked, “Are we there yet?”

“Mm, almost here. But the grass is buried under the snow, so we need to dig the snow away.” Yu looked at the gentle slope, thinking about where to start digging.

It was just him and Yu who went out this time. There was no Shitou and Xiao Hua to help shovel snow, so Yu had to do it. Cheng An took the initiative to jump down to facilitate Yu’s actions.

“Then start digging!” This snow is really freezing! Hurry up and dig some grass to bring back. Cheng An almost cried out because of the cold, but he held back, and silently put his tail in front of him and used it as a pad to step on.

It’s too cold. My good tail, you’ve worked hard.

Yu nodded and started digging on the spot. After digging about half a meter, he finally saw the withered yellow grass leaves.

The grass in this area grew densely, and after digging the snow on it, he could pull a bunch of it.

Yu pulled a lot of grass, tied them up and held them in his mouth, before laying on the ground, motioning Cheng An to come up quickly.

Cheng An didn’t delay much, and quickly climbed onto Yu’s back, secretly probing his frozen claws deep into Yu’s fur.  After feeling the warmth from Yu, Cheng An felt that he was finally alive.

Yu moved quickly and took Cheng An back to the cave soon. Then he blocked the cave entrance with stones, and the temperature in the cave rose!

“It’s so warm!” Cheng An couldn’t help but sigh.

The grass he pulled back was still at the entrance of the cave and no one cared about it. Yu took Cheng An back to the fire.

The soup in the stone pot was already steaming, but the meat was still a while away from being cooked. No one added firewood to the fire, so the flames were much smaller, but fortunately there was still charcoal, saving the trouble of re-starting the fire.

Yu added firewood to the fire and blew it. The flames instantly ignited, making the cave warm.

Cheng An quickly stretched out to warm his paws on the fire.

Yu took a branch and dug out the taro that he had buried when he went out. The outer layer was burnt and gave off a burnt smell, but the taro meat inside was white and tender, which did not affect anything.

“Do you want to eat taro? The meat will be eaten in a while, so eat some taro first to fill your stomach.” Yu peeled off the taro skin and put one in front of Cheng An.

Cheng An was very pleased. Now, under his correction, Yu could perfectly distinguish taro, yam and potato! It was really a cause for celebration.

“I want to eat!” Cheng An was a little hungry after going out. After eating the taro quietly, he remembered to look at the thin grass thrown at the entrance of the cave.

Cheng An took a few grasses out of the bundle with great effort. The grass leaves had been rubbed off in the process, leaving only the grass stems.

These grasses were cut by Yu’s sharp claws, and the wound surface was not smooth. Cheng An didn’t care about these, as long as he got the grass back. Besides, it is better to cut the grass than to pull it out, so you won’t bring back too much mud.

Although Yu said that these grasses are long and thin, they are not actually thin, but they are quite long. Cheng An estimated that the short ones should be about one meter long, and the long ones are almost two meters or even close to three meters. As for the thickness, the thinnest one is as thick as the little finger, and the thick one is almost two centimeters in diameter.

While testing the flexibility of the grass, Cheng An complained that the thickness in the mouths of the beastmen was not the same as what he imagined.

But it’s still good. Cheng An originally thought that he had to twist two or three of these grasses into one, but now it seems that one is enough to weave. It’s just that they have to be connected together.

Cheng An repeatedly bent these grass stems. He didn’t mean to break them, but the outermost grass skin broke, revealing the almost woody fibers inside.

Cheng An tried to bite with his teeth again, and finally bit off a grass after biting for a long time.

Cheng An was very satisfied with the flexibility of the grass. He could weave it into a fishing net and use it to catch fish!

The fish must be very fat in winter. He has already seen the trumpet of victory!

He thought about net after net of fat fish coming up…

Cheng An almost drooled.

Before, Cheng An had only witnessed the scene of winter lake hunting on various social platforms. He had always wanted to try it out. Unfortunately, he was too busy at work and never had the chance. Unexpectedly, he encountered such an opportunity after coming to the beastman world.

Pure, natural and pollution-free big lake fish, he is coming! Hehe.

The system witnessed the whole process. It was a good thing that the host finally understood how to use the surrounding resources to stockpile food for the tribe. After all, this was also a part of the infrastructure upgrade.

But Cheng An seemed to think these were too simple. He couldn’t help but ask: [Ding – Does the host have experience in lake hunting? ]

Cheng An was startled. He almost forgot the existence of the system. After all, he usually wouldn’t talk to 457 unless he asked. It seemed that this was the first time that 457 took the initiative to talk to him.

Cheng An was silent for a while and replied, “No. But I have seen it, so I have experience.”

This time it was the system’s turn to be silent.

After a while, 457 asked again: [Ding–Do you know how to weave a fishing net? ]

Cheng An patted his chest and said, “Who hasn’t seen a fishing net? Isn’t it just weaving it into a net shape! It’s very simple. Although I haven’t woven a fishing net, I have knitted sweaters. The feeling is similar. I will get it after trying more. Then assign the tasks. There are more than 60 people in the tribe. Everyone weaves a little bit and soon weaves a big net.”

Cheng An expected it very well.

457 couldn’t bear to speak to break Cheng An’s fantasy, but he still had to say it. [Ding–Would you try? ]

Cheng An was about to pull out a few more grasses to show his skills, but when his hand was halfway extended, Cheng An was silent.

Because he stretched out a furry paw.

Cheng An: “…”

He forgot that he is not a human now.

Then his manual ability was greatly reduced!

It’s over.

Seeing Cheng An’s silent expression, the system went offline to write a report with satisfaction.

Its performance is far behind other systems, which is really embarrassing. It is even more sad to write a report. Fortunately, it has its host to accompany it in sadness.

Next time, it must be assigned a high-quality human host!
