Meat and Potato Stew
Cheng An patted his chest and assured, “It’s okay, I can do it!”
Seeing Yu looking over, Cheng An added, “It’s from the Beast God!”
Yu humbly asked for advice, “Then how to do it?”
Cheng An’s eyes swept around the cave, and finally his eyes fell on the stone pot that Yu usually used to cook soup.
His eyes lit up. He pointed at the stone pot and said, “First, you need a pot like this to hold the mud for planting seeds. The seeds will grow very big later, you need a big pot like this! It’s better to have a few holes at the bottom to leak water.”
“A broken stone pot, right?”
Cheng An nodded, “Yes!”‘
“I remember there is a broken stone pot in the big cave, it should be just right for planting seeds. I’ll go get it.” Yu said and planned to go out.
Cheng An hurriedly called Yu: “More mud!”
Yu asked carefully again: “What kind of mud do you want?”
Cheng An carefully recalled the planting encyclopedia, fertile soil is… “I need darker soil, the kind of soil that is the most fertile. The soil should be softer and more breathable, there should be nothing else.”
“Black soil? I remember it.” After saying that, Yu changed back to his beast form and ran out. Before leaving, he did not forget to push the stone back to block the cave entrance to prevent the wind and snow from blowing into the cave and freezing Cheng An into a wolf cub ice sculpture.
Cheng An was really envious of Yu’s ability to change size anywhere. When will it be his turn to change and surprise others?
After sighing, Cheng An lowered his head and bit Yu’s leather skirt that fell on the ground. Why is he so careless! The fire will burn here in a while and burn your leather skirt. Let’s see what you will wear!
Cheng An muttered in his heart while holding the leather skirt and carrying it to the stone bed. Although Cheng An has grown up a lot now, the fur that Yu wears is still too big. Cheng An stumbled several times when he walked with the fur in his mouth.
He finally carried the fur back to the nest and put it there. Cheng An collapsed from exhaustion.
How tiring! When will he grow up quickly?
While Yu was taking the stone pot to fill the mud, Cheng An was not idle.
He offered his small stone bowl for eating, took it to the cave entrance to fill some snow squeezed in from the gap, and then held the bowl to the fire, waiting for the snow to melt.
It was really inconvenient to have no hands, and Cheng An’s mouth was a little sore.
Yu came back quickly. He pushed away the stones and brought back a stone pot full of black soil. Yu asked Cheng An not to come over first, he stood at the cave entrance to shake off the snow on his body, and then approached Cheng An.
“Is this okay?” Yu asked Cheng An’s opinion.
“Yes! That’s great!” Cheng An excitedly circled the stone pot several times. This black soil was comparable to what he had seen in the illustrations. With such soil, they will definitely succeed!
After Cheng An looked at the black soil, he hurriedly called Yu to the fire to warm himself up, so as not to catch a cold.
Then he happily jumped to the stone bed and brought the leather over to cover Yu. He completely forgot that he had just complained that his mouth was sore from holding things.
“Okay, I’ll do it myself.” Yu turned into a human form and took the leather brought by Cheng An and put it on.
After working for so long, it was time to have lunch.
Seeing that Cheng An had already brought his small stone bowl over and placed it by the fire, Yu thought that Cheng An was hungry, so he made the fire burn more vigorously. He took a piece of giant deer meat and bacon, cut them into pieces and put them in the stone pot to cook.
Cheng An quickly explained that he had gone to collect snow on purpose, and would put the seeds in to soak for a while after it melted into snow water.
“Isn’t there water in our cave?” Yu picked up Cheng An and took him to see the water tank in their cave.
That’s out of his reach! He wanted to do more and help Yu share some of the burden!
Cheng An was a little angry.
“Okay, okay, I know our An is the most capable. Do you want to eat potatoes and meat stew today?” Yu had long discovered that Cheng An seemed to be very interested in the pile of potatoes in the corner of the cave, hoping that the food could appease the angry wolf cub.
Sure enough, Cheng An’s attention was immediately diverted, “Eat! But I want to pick it myself!”
“Okay.” Yu agreed immediately. Although he didn’t understand what was so good about picking potatoes, his own wolf cub had spoken, so he naturally followed his will.
Cheng An jumped and ran to the corner where potatoes were piled, lifted the dry leaves covering the potatoes, and carefully picked out the real potatoes.
Mm, we’ll have potatoes and meat stew tonight!
Cheng An grew up very fast. With his growth rate, almost no beastmen would not believe him if he said he was chosen by the God of Beasts.
After all, there is probably no other cub on the beastman Continent who can speak before turning into a human form, and the growth rate of those cubs is far behind Cheng An’s growth rate.
It wasn’t long after Yu rescued him, and Cheng An has grown several times bigger now. His snow-white hair is fluffy and shiny, and he is well raised.
Such a Cheng An would not be easily ignored even if he rolled in the snow wrapped in animal skin.
Yu caught the potatoes that Cheng An dug up, huh? It seems that these potatoes look similar, and he didn’t know if An did it intentionally or unintentionally.
After Cheng An picked the potatoes, he looked back and saw that there were already quite a few in the stone basin. He then retracted his claws and instructed Yu: “Mm, it’s almost done. Wash them, peel them, and then cut them into pieces!”
Yu sighed: “Okay, Master Priest.”
This little wolf cub grows fast and can now eat stewed meat and potatoes that are relatively soft. Yu estimated that in a few days, Cheng An would not be willing to drink the broth anymore. As a result, Cheng An’s requirements for food are increasing day by day.
This is difficult for Yu.
After all, their beastmen’ stomachs are naturally much better than those of sub-beastmen. It is common for them to bite the prey to death and drink their blood and eat their meat raw when hunting outside.
Raw food is not difficult for beastmen to swallow, so most beastmen don’t care much about cooking. Not caring means not being proficient. What’s more, the cooking style of the beastman continent is very monotonous, and there are few seasonings, which are limited to boiling with salt and roasting with salt.
Yu was a little worried that Cheng An would starve to death in the future because of his picky taste of food.
“It’s done.”
Cheng An didn’t know Yu’s worries in his heart. He was still immersed in the fantasy of eating delicious food. He happily stretched his head to look at the potato cubes, and then instructed Yu to cut the meat into pieces, and cut the fat and lean meat separately. Then put the fat into the stone pot without adding water.
The stone pot conducts heat a little slowly, and it took a while for the fat to fry out the fat, exuding the unique aroma of fat.
Cheng An’s stomach had been growling with hunger for a long time, but for the sake of delicious food, he could wait!
Listening to the sizzling oil in the stone pot, Cheng An felt that his stomach was getting hungrier.
He couldn’t help but pull Yu to see the situation in the pot.
Yu simply picked up Cheng An with one hand and slowly stirred the fat in the pot with the other hand.
Transparent fat was separated from the white and tender fat, and only a shallow layer accumulated. The meat was fried golden.
“It’s time to add the lean meat! Stir-fry it until the surface of the lean meat is a little burnt, then add water and cook it with the potato cubes!” Cheng An swallowed his saliva and instructed Yu to do the next steps.
Yu responded.
Cheng An was a little anxious. The heat conduction speed of the stone pot was too slow. He couldn’t help but circle around the fire, hoping that the stone pot would open quickly and the food inside would cook quickly.
Yu took a branch and pulled out a baked potato from the embers, “Do you want to eat something to fill your stomach first? The food in the stone pot will need to cook for a while.”
Cheng An moved over reluctantly. If he ate one more baked potato now, he would have to eat one less piece of meat later! But he had to eat it. If he didn’t eat it, he felt that he would faint from hunger.
Yu raised his eyebrows and broke open the “baked potato”, and the steaming aroma emanated.
Cheng An sniffed, it was the smell of roasted sweet potatoes!
He ran to Yu in two steps. Although Cheng An sat dignified and reserved, his wagging tail still revealed his mood at the moment.
Yu’s eyes were full of smiles, “Do you want to eat?”
“Eat!” Cheng An nodded quickly.
Yu peeled off the roasted sweet potato skin, blew it cool and fed it to Cheng An’s mouth.
Cheng An didn’t care about anything else and ate it from Yu’s hand.
“Mmm! So delicious! I’ve never seen this kind of potato before? Where did you take it from?” Cheng An’s mouth was full of roasted sweet potatoes, and his words were a little unclear.
“This one? It’s the same as those potatoes, dug from the field by the river. But the sub-beastmen seem to like this kind of potato, so I didn’t dig it. This one was sent by Grandma Cao. Grandma Cao said you would like it too, so I brought a few. It seems that not only the sub-beastmen like it, but little cubs like it too.” Yu joked.
“Delicious! Let’s dig more swee… potatoes next year.” Cheng An finished the last bite of roasted sweet potato and looked up at Yu.
“Okay.” Yu touched Cheng An’s head.
After eating sweet potatoes to fill his stomach, the time waiting for the stewed meat to cook was not too difficult.
Yu stirred the soup in the stone pot and felt that it was much more fragrant than the meat soup he had cooked before. He didn’t know if it was an illusion.
Yu sprinkled some ground sea salt into the stone pot, then served Cheng An a full bowl of stewed meat. He added a few real potatoes that Cheng An personally picked out from a pile of potatoes, yams, and taro.
Considering that Cheng An is growing teeth now, Yu also specially took out a big bone and put it aside to dry, so that Cheng An can chew the bone for fun after finishing the stew in the bowl.
The steaming potatoes and meat were placed in front of Cheng An. Cheng An’s appetite was aroused. He didn’t care about the heat and directly lowered his head to pick up a piece of meat, but his tongue was too tender. He burnt his mouth with a piece of meat again in his mouth and didn’t want to spit it out to wait for the meat to cool down.
Yu felt funny when he saw it, and told him: “Eat slowly, this big bowl is all yours, no one will snatch it from you.”
In fact, when serving Cheng An the meat, Yu also blew on it for Cheng An. It was not as hot as when it was just out of the pot, but a little wolf was too anxious.
After telling Cheng An, Yu served himself meat from the stone pot.
Today’s potatoes and meat are different from the past. Almost as soon as the first bite of meat entered his mouth, the tongue of the top hunter could keenly distinguish that today’s soup was much better than before.
