Chapter 15: Knowing Your Celestial Bones
Su Yanwei was shocked!
What was this sword trying to do?
Was it… picking a fight?
She stared at the Falling Star Sword that had suddenly flown over on its own and stuck firmly to the back of her hand. A thought flashed through her mind: This is karma!
“One who picks a fight will be picked upon in turn.”
The Falling Star Sword clung tightly to the back of her hand, stickier than the strongest glue.
Su Yanwei tried several times to pull it off, using all the strength she had in her life,
But it didn’t help at all. The sword stayed rock solid, not even moving an inch.
With no other choice, Su Yanwei gave up on brute force.
She tried a softer approach, speaking gently to the sword:
“You want to come with me?”
“Vmmm”
The Falling Star Sword vibrated lightly, as if answering her.
Su Yanwei calmed her mind and asked,
“If I take such a big risk to bring you away, what benefit do I get out of it?”
“Vmmm, vmmm, vmmm!”
The Falling Star Sword buzzed repeatedly, as if protesting and scolding her.
“Okay, okay, stop buzzing, I know you’re the famous celestial sword,”
Su Yanwei replied sensibly, her tone clear and calm,
“But so what?
Right now, whether it’s a celestial sword or an iron sword, it’s all the same to me.
I’m just a kid!”
“…”
The Falling Star Sword fell silent.
It stopped buzzing altogether and quieted down.
Somehow, it even looked a bit lonely.
“If I bring you along, the Su family will never stop hunting me down. The risk is too high!”
Su Yanwei said seriously.
“This goes against my original plan.”
The light from the Falling Star Sword dimmed.
It sank into an even deeper gloom, completely shutting down.
Su Yanwei looked at it, unhurried, and continued,
“It’s not that there’s no way for me to take you with me.”
“Vmmm!”
The Falling Star Sword immediately lit up again, regaining its spirit and quivering slightly, as if excited.
“As the saying goes,” Su Yanwei said, her dark eyes glinting with cunning and liveliness,
“As long as the reward is big enough, people will risk anything.
Don’t you agree?”
“Vmmm! Vmmm! Vmmm!”
The Falling Star Sword buzzed again, as if it finally understood.
Then, a streak of bluish sword light flashed from its body,
And a thin book with a blue cover fell to the ground.
“Huh!?”
Su Yanwei picked up the book curiously, flipped it open, and to her shock, discovered it was a sword manual!
“Ah!”
She was stunned.
On the first page, in bold, flowing calligraphy, were four big words:
“Falling Star Sword Manual.”
It even comes with its own manual!?
Su Yanwei quickly skimmed through the sword manual, but her expression suddenly changed.
Her face turned pale, and she immediately slammed the book shut.
She closed her eyes, emptied her mind, and forced herself to forget everything she had just seen.
That sword manual…
It wasn’t something she should look at right now.
When she opened her eyes again, Su Yanwei had already wiped away all memory of what she saw.
She let out a long breath, still feeling afraid.
That sword manual…
She could never let anyone else know about it.
Su Yanwei vaguely sensed: this sword manual wasn’t something meant for anyone else’s eyes.
“You’ve really given me a huge problem,”
Su Yanwei sighed heavily, looking at the Falling Star Sword stuck to her hand.
“But fine, it’s something I asked for myself.”
This really is karma… sob,
She whimpered silently in her heart.
She never should have tried to blackmail a sword, how wicked and shameless of her! And now she got her retribution!
The Falling Star Sword still clung stubbornly to her hand, as if waiting for her answer.
“Alright, fine, I’ll take you with me.”
Su Yanwei finally said decisively.
“Anyway, I did need a good weapon. You look sharp enough
From now on, you’ll follow me!”
“Vmmm!”
The Falling Star Sword vibrated gently, as if happily agreeing.
“Alright, alright, I get it, don’t act cute,”
Su Yanwei said to it softly.
“And don’t cling so much. I won’t throw you away.”
After getting her promise, the Falling Star Sword seemed relieved.
It detached from her hand and fell downward.
Su Yanwei reached out and caught it.
She held the sword in her hand, looked at it, and smiled:
“See? I told you, I wouldn’t throw you away.”
“Don’t worry.”
The Falling Star Sword quietly lay in her hand, shimmering gently like starlight.
A sword only truly lives when wielded.
After three hundred years of silence, in this moment, it found new life in Su Yanwei’s hand.
Su Yanwei hugged the Falling Star Sword tightly to her chest as she sneaked out of the Treasure Armory.
Like a little thief, she quickly ran up to the Sword Sovereign of the Clouds, tugging on his sleeve and urging him:
“Go, go, go, let’s go quickly!”
She looked exactly like someone afraid of being chased from behind.
The Sword Sovereign glanced at the sword in her arms and smiled knowingly.
Without asking anything more, he reached out, wrapped his arm around her, and took her flying through the night sky, gliding between the stars and the moon.
Behind them, the Su family estate slowly grew smaller and smaller, until it finally became just a tiny black dot, vanishing into the night.
The lonely moon and countless stars shone together in brilliant light.
“Tonight, the stars and the moon are truly beautiful,”
Su Yanwei murmured, holding the Falling Star Sword in her arms.
The next day.
At dawn, Elder Mingfeng rushed anxiously to see Su Jingting.
“Patriarch! Something terrible has happened!”
“The Falling Star Sword has been stolen!”
“I already know,”
Su Jingting set down the letter in his hand, looking up calmly at the flustered Elder Mingfeng to reassure him.
“There’s no need to panic.”
“How can I not panic!? That’s the Falling Star Sword left by our ancestor!”
Elder Mingfeng exclaimed emotionally.
“I already know who took the Falling Star Sword,”
Su Jingting said.
Hearing this, Elder Mingfeng calmed down, though his face still looked angry.
“Who did it!?”
Su Jingting looked at him for a moment, then smiled faintly.
“Elder, haven’t you always wished for someone to inherit the Falling Star Sword?
Why, now that it’s happened, do you look so upset?”
“What do you mean by that?”
Elder Mingfeng frowned.
“Elder, you’re being foolish,”
Su Jingting said slowly.
“The Falling Star Sword was left by our ancestor, and only a descendant of the Su family could ever gain its approval.”
“…”
Elder Mingfeng was stunned for a moment, then realized what he meant.
His expression instantly turned excited.
“You mean…”
Su Jingting nodded, confirming his guess.
“Who was it!?” Elder Mingfeng demanded impatiently.
“The one who took the Falling Star Sword isn’t anyone else,”
Su Jingting said with a gentle, proud smile,
“It was Wei’er.”
“…”
The room fell silent.
Elder Mingfeng was speechless.
After a long moment,
“It was her…”
His voice was hoarse and strained.
“It was the eldest young lady…”
“Surprising, isn’t it?”
Su Jingting said, observing his expression.
“Even I didn’t expect that she could achieve this.”
He couldn’t help but sigh.
“She’s braver than I ever was.”
His voice held a hint of wistfulness and regret.
Immersed in his shock, Elder Mingfeng didn’t notice anything strange in Su Jingting’s tone.
The news that Su Yanwei had gained the Falling Star Sword’s approval shook him more than anything else.
All this time, the frail eldest daughter he had looked down on the one he saw only as useful for an arranged marriage to carry on the bloodline,
She had done something the Su family had hoped for over three hundred years, yet no one else had managed.
Elder Mingfeng’s feelings at this moment could well be imagined.
After some time,
“Wait, no!”
Elder Mingfeng suddenly reacted.
“How could the eldest young lady even get into the Treasure Armory? How did she get in?
The guards were clearly knocked out by hidden weapons!”
“That’s impossible for a child with no cultivation!”
“Where is she now?”
He frowned deeply.
“We must call her back and ask clearly!”
Su Jingting looked at him, and after a pause, said:
“Elder, there’s something I haven’t had a chance to tell you.”
“What is it?”
Elder Mingfeng asked.
“Just yesterday,” Su Jingting explained calmly,
“Wei’er became the disciple of the Sword Sovereign of the Clouds from the Shushan Sword Sect.
They’ve already left Jade City.
It must have been the Sword Sovereign who helped her.”
Elder Mingfeng was stunned at first, then exclaimed anxiously:
“How could this happen!?”
“How could the eldest young lady take an outsider as her master!?”
“The Falling Star Sword must remain in the Su family!”
“Quick, quick, send people after them! Bring her back immediately!”
Elder Mingfeng urged frantically.
Su Jingting looked coldly at his panic, finding it both absurd and laughable.
In the end, do you want to bring the person back, or the sword? If Wei’er hadn’t been chosen by the Falling Star Sword, Elder Mingfeng likely wouldn’t have cared about where she went.
“Calm yourself, Elder,”
Su Jingting said, his tone steady yet almost cold.
“By now, it’s probably too late to chase after them.”
“We still must!”
Elder Mingfeng shouted without hesitation.
“The eldest young lady who gained the Falling Star Sword’s approval must remain in the Su family!”
Su Jingting looked at him, his voice so calm it was nearly cruel.
“Do you truly not understand, Elder?
Why, for so many years, no one in the Su family ever gained the Falling Star Sword’s approval?”
Hearing this cold question, Elder Mingfeng finally calmed his overheated mind.
He looked at Su Jingting, frowning.
“Patriarch, what do you mean?”
“The Su family can never produce another Sword Immortal like Xuang Guang or Qing Yi,”
Su Jingting’s eyes turned icy as he spoke,
“Everyone we raise ends up an ordinary mortal, stuck in worldly schemes.”
“The Falling Star is a celestial sword.
The person it chooses could never be an ordinary mortal who fights and crawls in the dust of the mundane world.”
This truth had taken Su Jingting many years to understand.
Why, all those years ago, the Falling Star Sword abandoned even him.
