Chapter 8: Consecutive Wins
This was Wolong Appliance City in Wolong County.
That day, Chen Fan gave Boss Wu a big surprise.
Boss Wu had not expected a group of students to have much money on them, and he had mainly hoped to lure them in so they’d go home and persuade their families to come shop.
Unexpectedly, Chen Fan walked off with an ASUS laptop worth 7,000 on the spot.
Amazing!
The classmates were visibly moved, and from Chen Fan’s clothes everyone could tell his family was of modest means and that they’d heard something had happened at home, so why was he being so generous today?
A glance at the obedient, well-behaved Li Miaoyi beside him seemed to give everyone the answer.
Could he be trying to act macho in front of his girlfriend?
Zheng Xingtao held a Lenovo laptop worth 5,000, and his expression looked as if he’d swallowed something terrible.
His goddess had been taken and his spotlight stolen, so why did nothing go right for him today?
Afraid that delay would cause trouble, Boss Wu did not hesitate and quickly led Chen Fan to the cashier, smiling broadly as he said:
“Classmate, this laptop is 7,000 after the discount, and once you pay you will get a chance in the raffle; will it be cash or card?”
“Card!”
Chen Fan waved his hand grandly, and the obedient Li Miaoyi beside him popped open her wallet and took out a bank card.
Boss Wu: ?
Onlookers: ?
Classmates: ???
Zheng Xingtao: ????
Everyone was stunned; no wonder Chen Fan had been picking the expensive items to buy… his girlfriend was the one paying, after all.
It just showed that prejudice in people’s minds could be a huge mountain.
Chen Fan did not fear the envy, jealousy, or hatred of others; after paying he led his girlfriend to the raffle area.
A crowd of people followed eagerly behind, all wanting to see what the freeloading guy would draw.
Having been held back so long, Zheng Xingtao finally got his chance to show off and couldn’t wait, saying, “Chen Fan, let me go first and cover you.”
“Brother Tao often helps me, so if anyone should go first it should be me.”
Chen Fan could not allow Zheng Xingtao to go first, so without argument he thrust his hand into the raffle box.
The raffle box was filled with crumpled paper and little balls, and according to the rules only the paper slips could be drawn for prizes while the balls were just decoration.
But in reality the real grand prize was hidden inside one small ball made of a different material.
To ensure fairness, the raffle was sealed so Chen Fan couldn’t see inside and could only keep feeling around with his hand.
Maybe it was the reincarnator’s luck, because before long among the countless paper slips and little balls he touched a ball that felt different.
Chen Fan’s expression did not change as he pinched the ball open and pulled out the paper slip inside.
“Brother Fan, did you win?”
Li Miaoyi’s way of addressing him was becoming more natural, and her face looked nervous as she stared at the paper slip, which made her seem somewhat like a girlfriend.
The others’ attention also turned to Chen Fan, eager to see how things would turn out.
Only Boss Wu and Zheng Xingtao remained unmoved; the grand prize had been well hidden and the odds of winning were about as likely as hitting the lottery.
Chen Fan casually opened it, paused in surprise, and then, overjoyed, hugged Li Miaoyi beside him while exclaiming, “Miaoyi, I won!”
“You won? Which prize is it?”
Li Miaoyi’s smile was somewhat forced as she felt his masculine scent and warmth, and her little heart pounded.
Seeing that things were going well, Chen Fan let her go and displayed the paper slip in his hand.
“Grand Prize? Impossible!”
Zheng Xingtao was the first to read the words and his eyes went wide as if he’d seen a ghost.
The grand prize had clearly been prepared for him, so how could someone else have drawn it?
Boss Wu’s smile froze into a statue; could it be that a ball had accidentally split and the paper slip had fallen out?
“Brother Fan, congratulations!”
Li Miaoyi suppressed her shyness and felt happy for Chen Fan.
The classmates also offered congratulations and insisted that Chen Fan treat them.
Chen Fan agreed immediately, handed the paper slip to a Boss Wu who wore a constipated expression, and said, “Boss Wu, it’s time to claim the prize.”
“Well…”
Boss Wu was not willing to lose 10,000 yuan for nothing and wracked his brains for a way to shirk responsibility.
Chen Fan refused to give him that time and pressed him, saying, “Boss Wu, you wouldn’t be thinking of backing out, would you? You set up the prize, and I drew it right under your nose; there’s no way I could have cheated, is there?”
“Exactly, what are you stalling for; after redeeming the prize we still have to go online.”
“Look at the boss’s expression; he seems surprised someone would win the grand prize; could there be something fishy about the raffle?”
“Now that I think about it, it really does seem that the earlier winners mostly got small trinkets…”
The classmates and onlookers, eager for gossip, grew more suspicious the more they guessed, and their gazes toward Boss Wu gradually changed.
Boss Wu dared not delay; he wiped the sweat from his forehead and forced a smile, saying, “Our shop’s prices are clearly marked and fair to everyone, so of course we wouldn’t renege! It’s just that the Grand Prize has a hidden rule: winners must make another purchase at this store of at least 3,000…”
“Phew~”
Those words drew a chorus of hisses, and Li Miaoyi’s face showed a look of indignation.
Chen Fan, being simple-minded, believed easily and said, “Alright, then I’ll buy another phone; this time there should be a raffle chance too, right?”
“Yes, of course!”
Boss Wu dared not risk cheating any further; if he continued, his grand opening promotion would be ruined.
Chen Fan wasn’t very interested in the current era’s phones, so he casually picked a Nokia worth 3,000 and returned to the raffle box.
Even more people gathered this time, all hoping a miracle might happen again!
Boss Wu wiped sweat from his shirt and grew increasingly nervous.
He couldn’t afford to try to steal a quick profit and end up losing everything; the First Prize might be drawn as well.
But sometimes, the things you least wanted to happen were the ones most likely to happen.
Chen Fan put his hand into the raffle box, completely ignoring the paper slips and balls below, and instead felt around at the top of the box and fished out a small slip of paper.
“Miaoyi, I won again; you really are my lucky angel!”
Chen Fan flamboyantly hugged Li Miaoyi and showed the paper slip to everyone, which clearly indicated the First Prize of 5,000 yuan!
Hiss~
Tears of envy and jealousy ran from the corners of everyone’s eyes; he had won two big prizes in a row, and the computer had even been paid for by his girlfriend.
What kind of chosen one is this!
“Boss Wu, do I need to buy anything else? I can buy another phone for my girlfriend.”
“No need, no need, I’ll redeem the prize for you right now.”
It was hard for Boss Wu not to suspect that Chen Fan had already discovered his secret.
If the drawing continued, the other First Prize would probably be gone too.
The raffle wrapped up perfectly; besides getting a free computer and a phone, Chen Fan also managed to pocket 5,000 yuan in cash.
He was true to his word and immediately bought a big pile of fruit and snacks for his classmates as they left the store.
In the store Boss Wu watched the group leave laughing and chatting, grinding his teeth in anger, and in a fit of rage he slapped Zheng Xingtao hard.
It was all Zheng Xingtao’s fault for bringing those classmates over; otherwise how would he have lost so much money!
Zheng Xingtao felt extremely aggrieved.
You were the one who told me to bring more people to help show support….
