Chapter 27 Old Friend
Other celestial realms have disciples to guard their borders, but Kunlun is different.
As Liu Shuang stepped into the peach grove, petals fluttered down upon her. The wind blew through, and the once tranquil peach grove erupted into a cacophony, the peach trees chattering: “Oh no, oh no, that ugly hag from KongSang is back to bully the young master again!”
“She’s back, she’s back…”
Tens of thousands of peach trees, in a vengeful manner, hurled peach blossoms at Liu Shuang, as if they wanted to bury her alive. Liu Shuang felt quite dejected; see, returning to Kunlun, she was indeed unwelcome. If even the peach tree spirits treated her this way, wouldn’t the young master of Kunlun stab her to death upon seeing her?
Bai Yuxiao laughed heartily: “Chishui Liu Shuang, look at you, how detestable you were last time you came; these spirits remember you!”
Bai Zhuixu looked at the dusty and disheveled Liu Shuang, half-amused and half-helpless. He had planned to step forward to introduce himself and request an audience with the Kunlun realm master or the young master, but he saw the peach trees shifting languidly, the path they had just traversed now completely blocked, firmly obstructed by the trees.
In an instant, the way was sealed off, and the white eight-trigram array beneath their feet flickered with light; this was a maze, urging them to leave quickly.
Yan Chao Sheng sneered inwardly; see, that ugly hag was indeed not liked.
Bai Zhuixu took a step forward and said, “I am Bai Zhuixu, the eldest son of the Bai family from KongSang, here to apologize to the young master of Kunlun. I hope for your leniency.”
The path remained blocked; the peach trees were obstinate, unwilling to let them pass.
Liu Shuang said, “I really am here to apologize.”
The peach trees remained unmoved.
Bai Yuxiao said, “Why bother saying so much to them? They’re just a bunch of spirits that gained sentience from absorbing celestial energy. A fire would make them clear the way!”
He had a fiery temperament, and as soon as he finished speaking, flames ignited at his fingertips. Liu Shuang quickly grabbed him: “No!”
Liu Shuang’s head throbbed: “We’re here to apologize; burning their realm will only create enmity. I made a mistake last time, and being punished for it is nothing. Let’s wait a bit; perhaps someone from Kunlun will be willing to report back.”
Bai Zhuixu also stopped him: “Yuxiao, don’t be reckless.”
Bai Yuxiao had no choice but to retract his hand, snorting, “It’s likely we’ll wait until the end of time, and they still won’t open the gates. These spirits wouldn’t dare block the road without someone’s prompting; I don’t believe it. The Kunlun lineage is best at occupying territory; they probably knew we were entering Kunlun long before we arrived.”
They had known, yet deliberately let them face a closed door, even sending spirits out to mock Liu Shuang.
After all, Liu Shuang was the young master of KongSang; logically, Kunlun wouldn’t act this way. What had she done last time to be so despised?
The three men looked at Liu Shuang in unison, their gazes subtle.
Liu Shuang took a step back, feeling wronged to death. She didn’t know what the original owner had done; her heart raced more than anyone else’s.
She had thought the peach grove was a formation that would only trap them for a few days, just to vent some frustration, but days passed, and not only did the peach trees block the way, but no one from the celestial realm came out.
This time, even Bai Zhuixu couldn’t comfort himself with the thought that Kunlun would let them in once their anger subsided. He glanced at Liu Shuang’s face beneath her veil; the longer the Illusionary Beauty Pearl remained in her body, the harder it would be to revert her appearance. For the sake of the young master’s face, he couldn’t force his way in.
He sighed and said, “Let’s force our way through the peach grove.”
Liu Shuang quickly stopped him: “No, no!”
If they really forced their way in, the young master of Kunlun would surely be even angrier. Forget the Illusionary Beauty Pearl; the two celestial realms would definitely become hostile.
Bai Zhuixu understood this reasoning, but he was worried about his own face and had no choice but to resort to this desperate measure.
“I have a way!” Liu Shuang said, “Let me try first.”
She glanced at Yan Chao Sheng; in her memories, the little celestial grass had almost stumbled into the Heartless Hall. That time, the demon lord had been very angry, and the two had been in a cold war for days. The little celestial grass had nearly cried herself to death in her bed, and Yan Chao Sheng had used this method to coax her.
The little celestial grass immediately stopped being angry. She couldn’t remember her own mindset from her past life, but the intention to coax someone might be useful.
The method Yan Chao Sheng had used to coax her in her past life, now she would use to coax the young master of Kunlun; it made sense.
Liu Shuang thought to herself that she couldn’t bring herself to apologize directly. After all, as the young master of KongSang, she had no face in Kunlun. She simply formed a seal with her palms, her fingers dancing, and a line of golden light slowly rose into the air.
The light flew to the skies above Kunlun, almost spreading throughout the entire realm.
Wo Jiang watched with delight in the water mirror as Liu Shuang and the others entered Kunlun’s territory; he had known the moment they arrived.
Wo Jiang secretly instructed the peach trees to block the entrance, preventing the young master from entering.
What a joke! Last time, this ugly girl had rushed in, and the entire Kunlun treated her with utmost respect because she was the young master’s fiancée. Yet, without a second thought, she belittled the young master, saying she would never marry him, urging him to give up hope.
That wasn’t all; when the young master frowned and said that marriage was a matter between the two celestial realms, that he needed to discuss it with his father, that girl had directly pointed to her own belly, saying there might already be a child inside. If the young master was willing to be this green turtle, she wouldn’t mind a marriage between KongSang and Kunlun.
Even the most patient young master couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.
A man humiliated to such an extent immediately agreed to annul the engagement.
The ugly girl happily left, and Wo Jiang hadn’t seen the young master’s face this cold in hundreds of years.
Of course, the two had never had any feelings for each other. The young master had sacrificed his own marriage for Kunlun, intending to treat the ugly girl with respect in the future to protect the celestial realm together, but unexpectedly, someone had come to complain and even intended to secretly conceive a child for the young master to take over.
After that, the young master had been in seclusion.
Since this marriage was off, he had to have the ability to save the withering spiritual veins. This time, when Chishui Liu Shuang returned to the celestial realm, the young master was unaware of it while in seclusion.
Wo Jiang was determined to teach this spoiled little girl a lesson.
He had secretly divined for the young master and Chishui Liu Shuang, discovering that the young master and she could not end up together. Since that was the case, it was better to deal with it sooner rather than later.
Without the little troublemaker from the Chishui family, if a marriage were truly to happen, wouldn’t Feng Fu Ming have a sister? He had heard that the Dongfang Chang Liu family also had some fine women.
When the Chishui family had come to discuss marriage, they had claimed their young master was stunningly beautiful, unparalleled in grace. Yet, this girl had come to provoke them, completely painful to look at.
She thought the young master was unworthy of her; in Wo Jiang’s view, she wasn’t worthy of the young master either!
After the peach grove spirits had trapped them outside, Wo Jiang had thought she would fly into a rage and force her way in. Unexpectedly, she patiently waited outside for several days, obediently standing there as punishment.
Wo Jiang snorted coldly in his heart; anyway, the good-tempered young master was in seclusion. What did it matter if she couldn’t get in?
The old man from the Chishui family allowed his daughter to cause a ruckus in Kunlun; what did that mean? It was just the right opportunity to test the other party’s intentions.
After watching for several days, Wo Jiang finally grew tired. He leisurely took a short rest when someone knocked on the door.
Wo Jiang went to open it, surprised: “Young Master?”
Outside stood JiMo Shaoyou, dressed in blue with a jade crown, who bowed and said helplessly, “Master, why are you making things difficult for her?”
Wo Jiang stammered, “Why has the young master come out of seclusion?”
JiMo Shaoyou sighed, “Causing such a commotion, if I continue to seclude myself, my father will blame me.”
“What?” Wo Jiang was taken aback; what commotion had been caused? The people in the water mirror seemed fine!
“Master, please come out and see.”
Wo Jiang followed Shaoyou outside, and upon raising his head, his face twitched. Above the entire Kunlun, a line of golden characters written with celestial power proclaimed:
“JiMo Shaoyou, I was wrong. Please forgive me; can I see you?”
She had truly lowered her stance to an extreme, appearing more like she was coaxing a little lady than her fiancé.
Shaoyou waved his hand, and the line of characters faded away.
Wo Jiang hadn’t expected that little girl to be so clever; the young master had been disturbed and could no longer remain in seclusion. Wo Jiang asked, “What does the young master think? Since the engagement has been annulled, there’s no need to maintain relations with KongSang. The four celestial realms rarely interact; for hundreds of thousands of years, they have each lived in their own corners. The young master doesn’t always have to consider the realm; occasionally, he should also take his own feelings and preferences into account.”
Shaoyou’s eyes were clear and gentle, and upon hearing this, he smiled warmly: “Master is right.”
Wo Jiang sighed; their young master was good in every way, but he thought too much, living as if he were not a person with flesh and blood.
JiMo Shaoyou called him “Master,” and Wo Jiang felt unworthy of the title. Shaoyou had followed him to learn, mastering only the art of divination. Later, he had absorbed the strengths of many schools, surpassing Wo Jiang in both divination and techniques. The realm master had even sought another master for him, yet for thousands of years, he had respected Wo Jiang as if nothing had changed.
Wo Jiang had watched him grow up, not only seeing him as the young master and the future hope of Kunlun but also cherishing him more than his own flesh and blood.
Shaoyou was upright and serious; such a temperament was easily bent, too selfless. Wo Jiang actually hoped he could be a bit more selfish and not always consider others.
“Well then, young master, have you seen Chishui Liu Shuang?”
Shaoyou said, “Let them in. Although the engagement is no more, she is still a guest from KongSang. Since she says she is here to apologize, we cannot let the daughter of the Chishui family be embarrassed in Kunlun.”
“If she is still rude, what should the young master do?”
Shaoyou lowered his gaze, pondering for a moment, then said lightly, “Master worries too much; Kunlun is not a place where anyone can run wild.”
Wo Jiang felt relieved; with the young master saying this, if that little girl dared to be arrogant and speak ill, the young master would certainly not let her off lightly.
Wo Jiang thought for a moment and instructed the peach tree spirits to let them in.
Ah, what a shameless little girl! Knowing their young master was thin-skinned, she actually thought of this!
Liu Shuang was also uncertain if it would work; after a while, the peach grove remained silent.
She felt a bit frustrated; was it useless to coax the young master in front of the entire realm? Bai Zhuixu and the others didn’t know what she had done, and seeing no response from inside, Bai Zhuixu comforted her: “It’s fine; let me try, young master.”
He was not as rough as Bai Yuxiao, wanting to destroy the peach grove; he intended to forcefully break the formation and move the peach trees.
Just as he was about to cast a spell, the spirits seemed to have received some command, parting to the sides, and in unison said, “We welcome the young master of Chishui.”
Bai Yuxiao was puzzled: “Is it that Chishui Liu Shuang’s method worked, or are these spirits afraid of my brother?”
“Whichever it is, let’s go in first,” Liu Shuang said, glancing at Yan Chao Sheng; the demon lord’s method of coaxing was truly effective.
The group entered Kunlun. Unlike KongSang, which emphasized spiritual resonance, Kunlun valued harmony with nature. Amidst the ethereal celestial energy, countless flowers bloomed, and Liu Shuang even spotted a nest of little rabbits not far away.
Kunlun must be the most accommodating celestial realm for other beings.
Someone came to guide them: “Young master of Chishui, esteemed celestial lords, please follow me this way.”
After walking a short distance, they finally saw the pavilions and towers floating in the air.
“We’ve arrived; the young master is waiting for you inside. I will take my leave.”
To be honest, Liu Shuang felt quite nervous. What should she say when she met the young master of Kunlun? Should she directly follow the procedure, apologize and admit her mistakes, or should she exchange a few pleasantries first?
She stepped out of the pavilion, mentally rehearsing her humble and apologetic lines.
However, when the celestial lord turned around, revealing his face, Liu Shuang was momentarily stunned, forgetting everything.
She had thought her heart was gone, that beneath her cold chest, there would be no more ripples, but unexpectedly, one day, it could still leap so violently.
Almost uncontrollably, she ran up to him, her lips trembling: “Is it you? Shaoyou?”
In her lifetime, she had longed to see him the most, yet had never laid eyes on him before.
A glance spanning a century; she had died and returned, and Shaoyou had transformed into an obsession in her memories.
Shaoyou turned back with a cold expression, expecting to see a furious woman like last time. Unexpectedly, she ran to him, her misty eyes looking at him with both joy and sorrow, as if she were seeing the dearest family member in the world, ready to rush into his arms and cry.
JiMo Shaoyou was stunned.
