Having already decided to reveal everything, Yun Tutu had made up her mind. She knew she was just an ordinary person and never had any grand ambitions to conquer the universe.
“Don’t underestimate yourself,” Song Song sighed in relief, realizing that Yun Tutu was still in a state of hesitation. This was the perfect opportunity to guide her thoughts. “Every person is unique. For me to find you among countless worlds—it’s fate…”
“Stop right there. What cheesy drama have you been watching?” Yun Tutu rubbed her arms, feeling the goosebumps. “Just tell me, can I switch to a different partner or not?”
“No,” Song Song immediately replied, firm and resolute. Realizing that being gentle wasn’t working, it switched to a more serious tone. “If we unbind, I’ll go back to wandering through countless worlds, and everything you’ve gained so far will vanish.”
“Wandering?” Yun Tutu looked at the dejected little puppet on the screen, licking her dry lips. “You better not be lying to me.”
As for everything she had gained so far, she had always felt a bit anxious about it. If it all disappeared, she wouldn’t be too upset.
“Why would I lie to you? I’ve been nothing but honest. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have agreed to let you report me to the authorities,” Song Song replied, sounding sincere. “I’ve already prepared myself for the worst.”
Yun Tutu hesitated, “So, you’re not mad at me?”
“What’s there to be mad about?” The little puppet on the screen drooped even more. “I know you humans have a saying: ‘A forced relationship is never sweet.'”
Yun Tutu was at a loss for words. “But when you bound yourself to me, you didn’t ask for my consent.”
“We can’t dwell on the past,” the little puppet suddenly looked up at Yun Tutu. “Let me tell you something, and I’m not afraid you’ll get cocky. You’re the most compatible person I’ve found after searching across countless worlds. That’s why I had to use some… unconventional methods. But I never intended to harm you.
“On the contrary, by traveling through the multiverse with me, you’ll gain access to resources that could change your life forever…”
“Stop right there. Don’t try to brainwash me again.” Yun Tutu didn’t want to fall into another traps. “Since you can’t contract with anyone else, you’d better look out for me from now on.”
“Of course,” Song Song’s little puppet avatar nodded vigorously, then did a flashy spin. “Don’t worry. If anyone gives you trouble, I’ll protect you.”
Yun Tutu raised an eyebrow. “Hearing you say that makes me even more nervous.”
“Relax, relax,” the little puppet said, raising its tiny fists in a gesture of encouragement. “If things ever get really bad, I’ll take you to a small, safe world. I won’t let you live a miserable life.”
Yun Tutu rolled her eyes. “No need for that. If it comes to that, I’ll stay here even if I turn into ash.”
“Whoa, no need to get so serious,” Song Song said, spinning around again. “I was just using it as a metaphor. Don’t worry, as long as I’m here, nothing bad will happen.”
Yun Tutu didn’t take its words too seriously. If Song Song were really that powerful, it wouldn’t need to go around collecting energy all the time.
“But isn’t it a waste to spend energy on something like this?” Yun Tutu rested her chin on her hand, watching the little puppet. “I’m the only one who can see you. You could’ve just drawn me a picture. I can imagine the rest.”
“It’s not the same!” Song Song said, still spinning. “When I gather more energy, I’ll even create a physical form for myself. That way, I can taste all the delicious food you enjoy.”
“You can eat?” Yun Tutu was shocked. “Aren’t you just a virtual entity?”
“I can attach myself to physical objects.”
Yun Tutu’s guard went up immediately. “Can you attach yourself to humans too?” That sounded a lot like a ghost.
Sensing her thoughts, Song Song’s little puppet jumped up and down on the screen. “Don’t worry, I’m not some low-level entity! I can only control the minds of small animals. You humans are a primate species, and we’re not allowed to harm you.”
Since the creator god was human, they wouldn’t have allowed the existence of any beings that could harm their own kind. The first law embedded in these entities was that they couldn’t harm primates.
“So you’re not a ghost?” Yun Tutu asked for reassurance.
Song Song, seeing how skittish she was, decided to tease her. “No, I’m not. But if you want to see one, I can take you to one.”
Yun Tutu’s curiosity was piqued. “Really? Do I need to rub cow tears in my eyes?”
“…” Little one, your curiosity could be dangerous…
“So, you’re saying that when we travel through the multiverse, I might encounter one?” Yun Tutu speculated. It wasn’t impossible that they could end up in a world full of ghosts and spirits.
“That depends on your luck,” Song Song replied, its voice dripping with mischief. “I know humans fear these things but don’t really believe in them. If I ever get a mission involving a world like that, I’ll definitely take it.”
“No, no,” Yun Tutu quickly waved her hands. “I’m not that curious.”
“You humans are so strange. I recently heard a song lyric that said, ‘I fear ghosts, but they’ve never hurt me. I don’t fear humans, but they’ve hurt me deeply.’ So, who do you think is more dangerous—humans or ghosts?”
Yun Tutu was momentarily speechless. “That’s hard to say. There’s another saying: ‘The ghost you fear might be someone another person longs to see.’”
“…”
As they were chatting, there was a knock at the door.
Yun Tutu jumped up, nervously eyeing the door. “Are they here? Is it them?”
“No, it’s your landlord,” Song Song informed her. “You’d better cover those things on the table.”
Yun Tutu quickly gathered up the treasures and dumped them on the bed, hastily covering them with a blanket.
Song Song watched, exasperated. “Really? You think hiding them under a blanket will keep them from being discovered? How naive.”
Naive. Yun Tutu muttered, “You don’t get it. Beds have bed spirits, blankets have blanket spirits. Even ghosts can’t penetrate them. Don’t you know?”
The little puppet spun around even faster. “Is that so? I’ve never heard of it. I need to look into this.”
“Stop spinning! You might not get dizzy, but I’m about to!” Yun Tutu wanted to ask if all this spinning required energy.
The landlord knocked for a while with no response, then noticed the parked motorcycle and called out, “Yun Tutu, are you home?”
Yun Tutu rushed to open the door. “I’m here, I’m here.”
As she opened the door, she immediately apologized, “Sorry, Auntie, I was in the bathroom.”
The landlord, seeing Yun Tutu sweating, was understanding. She waved her phone and said, “No worries. I have plenty of time. Next time, if you’re busy, just don’t rush to the door. You can give me a call.”
Yun Tutu hesitated. “So… why did you come all the way here in person?”
