Yun Tutu didn’t need to drive around this time; she simply vanished into thin air from the courtyard.
The three people left behind were stunned. They had heard about this before, but seeing it in person was something else entirely.
All three simultaneously reached for their phones. Since they weren’t from the same department, this situation needed to be reported up the chain.
Unaware of the reactions after she left, Yun Tutu found herself in the midst of ruins when she reappeared.
The houses around her were all collapsed, with not a single one left intact. As she looked around, all she could see was desolation—there were no signs of life anywhere.
“This can’t be right. There’s no one alive for miles around,” Yun Tutu thought, feeling a chill run down her spine in the eerie silence.
“This is an apocalypse. Did you expect to see birds singing and flowers blooming?” Song Song, the little wooden figure, appeared beside her, pointing out a direction. The destination wasn’t far away.
Yun Tutu carefully maneuvered her motorcycle down the flattest part of the rubble. After driving for a few hundred meters, the navigation indicated that she had arrived.
“This is the place?” Yun Tutu recalled that when she first met Zhao Xiaoya, the situation was somewhat similar. However, at least Zhao Xiaoya had a cave to hide in. Here, there was nothing. Surely, Xie Yufei wasn’t living in a rat hole?
“Xie Yufei! Xie Yufei, where are you?” Yun Tutu resorted to her usual method of calling out.
The navigation indicated that she had reached the destination, but there wasn’t even a cave entrance in sight. Was she supposed to dig through the rubble?
Staring at the ruins, Yun Tutu silently cursed. “I’m a lady; I can’t just start swearing. Song Song, what’s going on here?”
Song Song replied, “Uh… you’re standing on top of her. Take a few steps back.”
Yun Tutu immediately looked down but didn’t see anyone. Still, she obediently moved her motorcycle back a few steps. Suddenly, the stone slab she had been on flew into the air.
“Are people in the apocalypse this strong?” Yun Tutu was dumbfounded as she watched. The rubble suddenly revealed a small house, about ten square meters in size. She couldn’t help but gulp and take a few more steps back.
“This feels like something out of a ghost story,” Yun Tutu murmured as she looked at the small house. “Is Xie Yufei really inside?”
Just then, the door opened from the side, and a gun was pointed at her. A bald head peeked out, eyes full of suspicion. “You were calling me just now? Which department are you from?”
Xie Yufei had hurriedly brought her injured companion to her safe house after they were attacked. But this time, the attack had been too severe, and they had run out of the medicine they had brought with them.
Just when things seemed hopeless, a screen had suddenly appeared, asking if she needed to order anti-inflammatory medicine.
She had been skeptical, thinking she was hallucinating, but had clicked “Yes” anyway. Before she could fully comprehend what had happened, the screen vanished.
They had sent out a distress signal, but she had no idea when the base might respond. So when she heard someone calling her name, she thought rescue had arrived and activated her safe house to investigate.
Curiously eyeing Yun Tutu, the mysterious screen reappeared, confirming, “The cross-dimensional delivery has arrived. Please complete the transaction.”
“Cross-dimensional delivery?” Xie Yufei recalled the strange occurrence earlier, thinking it had been a hallucination. But here it was, really happening.
She rubbed her eyes and pinched herself. The person in front of her was still there, and it hurt. “Did you really bring anti-inflammatory medicine?”
Yun Tutu removed her helmet, revealing chestnut brown curls. Xie Yufei looked at her with a mix of emotions, including envy. In the apocalypse, having long hair was a luxury.
She wondered what kind of organization this cross-dimensional delivery service belonged to, one that could even read her mind.
And that motorcycle… She had only ever seen such things in museums. When had she ever seen anyone actually riding one?
“Yes, I brought anti-inflammatory medicine. I’ve also got other supplies if you’re interested,” Yun Tutu said, her eyes shining as she eyed the house behind Xie Yufei.
The house had appeared out of nowhere, and she hadn’t even noticed it before. If she could bring it back, it would be incredibly useful.
And the technology behind it… she couldn’t even think about it without drooling. She wanted it. She wanted it all.
“Really?” Xie Yufei was skeptical. In the apocalypse, anti-inflammatory medicine was incredibly scarce. They had only managed to purchase two pills for this mission, and they had already used them up.
“Of course it’s real,” Yun Tutu said enthusiastically, pulling out a box of anti-inflammatory medicine from her storage and tossing it over.
Xie Yufei quickly caught it, then felt a wave of fear. What if this was a trick? She could be in serious trouble.
Looking at the box, Xie Yufei raised an eyebrow. Medicine wasn’t packaged in boxes anymore—doing so would be wasteful.
However, she could read the text on the box. Though it was slightly different from their current medicine, the effects seemed similar. But would it actually work?
“If you think this might be too slow, I’ve got liquid anti-inflammatory medicine as well,” Yun Tutu offered, her eyes still on the house. “I’ve also got some medicinal powder that’s really effective on wounds.”
She was practically emptying her storage. “So, what do you say? Are we making a deal or not?”
Xie Yufei asked cautiously, “What do you want in return? Credits?”
“Credits?” Yun Tutu thought of the web novels she had read and quickly shook her head. “I only deal in bartering.”
“But now that the supplies are in my hands, aren’t you afraid I’ll back out of the deal?”
Yun Tutu blinked at her, and the medicine box in Xie Yufei’s hands suddenly vanished. With an innocent look, Yun Tutu said, “I’m afraid I have the right to refuse, you know.”
Xie Yufei paused, realizing she had no choice but to negotiate peacefully since she couldn’t resort to force.
“Alright, wait here for a moment. I’ll discuss this with my companions,” she said, hoping to intimidate Yun Tutu by implying she wasn’t alone.
“Take your time,” Yun Tutu replied cheerfully. “By the way, let them know I also brought some food, water, and clothing.”
Xie Yufei didn’t pay much attention to that. They had stocked up on enough nutrient liquids, so food wasn’t an immediate concern.
Still, knowing she needed to keep negotiating, she replied vaguely, “We’ll discuss it.”
Before entering the house, Xie Yufei closed the door behind her. At least inside the safe house, they could withstand a few attacks.
