Yun Tutu felt countless eyes staring at her, and an eerie chill crept up her spine. Despite her fear, curiosity got the best of her, and she cautiously turned her head. The sight nearly scared her soul out of her body—there was a dense crowd of spirits, the very “ghosts” she had imagined.
These apparitions varied in shape, each one reflecting the horrific state in which they had died. One spirit was even holding its decapitated head in one hand, while waving at her with the other.
“Hiss…” Yun Tutu clutched her racing heart, summoning the courage to address them, “I’m just a bystander who accidentally stumbled in. I bear no grudges against any of you, past or present, so please don’t scare me. I have a fragile heart.”
Don’t they know how frightening they look? She thought, feeling a mix of terror and frustration.
Her words seemed to anger one of the spirits—a headless ghost. It raised its head and rushed toward Yun Tutu.
Master Shifang had been keeping an eye on the situation. Seeing the spirit’s attack, he cursed inwardly and prepared to act, only to witness the ghost being repelled before he could intervene.
Stunned, Shifang silently observed Yun Tutu. Which sect does this child belong to? No wonder she dared to enter this ghost domain alone.
This particular ghost domain was controlled by four ghost kings, trapping numerous wandering spirits. If left unchecked, it would pose a grave danger to the region.
Shifang had been fighting here for a long time, yet he had not even encountered the four ghost kings. His talismans and tools were nearly depleted. If things continued this way, he feared he would die here and possibly become one of the ghost kings’ servants.
Yun Tutu, now terrified, let out a scream as she saw the headless ghost being flung back. Her eyes widened in astonishment. “Song Song, you’re my savior! I swear I’ll never interrupt your gaming sessions again!”
“Well, you said it,” Song Song, who had been silent, finally responded. “Now you know my worth?”
“I’ve always known,” Yun Tutu admitted. Last time in the Qin Palace, she had seen how the guards couldn’t harm her. But this time, these were terrifying ghosts, which made it all the more unsettling.
After the initial shock wore off, Yun Tutu still found the ghostly figures grotesque and menacing. Scaring people like this is just rude!
With her head held high, she said, “I know you can make yourselves look better. Why don’t you change back to how you looked when you were alive? It’s too ugly to look at you like this.”
Master Shifang: “…” Whose reckless child is this?
“Courting death!” shrieked a female ghost, blood flowing from her seven orifices. With her sinister, sharp claws, she prepared to attack Yun Tutu. The previous ghost had been too weak, but this one was ready to teach this audacious girl a lesson.
Yun Tutu watched in fascination as the ghost was once again repelled by an invisible force, disappearing into the mist.
“Don’t blame me. You brought this on yourselves,” Yun Tutu muttered, gradually getting used to the sight. “So, is this what you looked like when you died?”
“Stop asking,” Master Shifang interrupted, fearing her reckless behavior would provoke the ghosts further. He had figured out that while Yun Tutu seemed to be protected, he himself would bear the brunt of the spirits’ wrath if things escalated.
“Don’t worry, Master. Why don’t you come a little closer? As long as you’re within a meter of my motorcycle, they won’t be able to hurt you.” Yun Tutu pulled him closer, feeling it was her duty to protect him until their transaction was completed.
Intrigued, Shifang followed her advice and moved closer to the motorcycle. To his amazement, the malevolent spirits that had been trying to attack him were repelled, unable to approach.
“You came to deliver the cinnabar and talismans, right? Now that the items have been delivered, you should leave,” Shifang said, concerned for her safety. Though she had protection, staying in such a cold and eerie place for too long would be harmful.
Yun Tutu finally turned her attention to the task at hand. “Master, you need to give me the payment.”
Having collected the cinnabar and talismans, Master Shifang realized he had no money on him and felt a pang of embarrassment.
“I’m afraid I didn’t bring any money. But I’ll double the payment when I return.”
“No way. Our transactions are strictly pay-on-delivery.” Yun Tutu noticed the talismans in his hand. “Your talismans seem useful. How about using them as payment?”
But after thinking it over, she shook her head. “Wait, no. These are your protective charms. If you give them away, these ghosts will tear you apart.”
The nearby malicious spirits seethed silently.
Master Shifang pulled out a stack of talismans from his bag. “These peace charms are of no use to me here. Take them in exchange.”
Yun Tutu knew that in a supernatural world, such items were valuable. But she was also wary—what if they became ineffective after she returned?
“Song Song, will these peace charms work back home?” she quickly asked.
“Of course! They carry spiritual energy and magic, and they can definitely keep you safe,” Song Song reassured her.
Yun Tutu’s eyes sparkled with excitement. This trip was worth it. If I had these peace charms earlier, my dad wouldn’t have been injured and hospitalized.
“Deal!” Yun Tutu eagerly took the talismans and stuffed them into her bag. “I also brought some food and other supplies. Do you need anything else?”
“Food? Do you have water?” Shifang asked. He had run out of food and water long ago and had been relying on his cultivation to survive.
“Of course!” Yun Tutu began unpacking the supplies, remembering that she had buried the food under the paper goods to prevent damage. She carefully pulled out one item at a time.
Shifang, watching her, was dumbfounded. “Are you in the funeral business?”
Yun Tutu shook her head as she continued unpacking. “No, this is just temporary stock. Don’t worry, if it’s related to funerals, I’ve got it.”
“Aha, found it!” Yun Tutu triumphantly pulled out two large bags of food, then realized the bags hanging from the handlebars were also filled with provisions. “I forgot—these bags in the front are food too.”
She laid everything out in front of Shifang. “There’s food, self-heating meals, fruit, drinks, and even a few bottles of wine.”
Shifang, feeling more confused than ever, dug through his belongings. “I don’t have much left, but here are some calming charms, gravity talismans, and truth seals. Take them if you find them useful. If we meet again, I’ll give you more.”
Just hearing the names of the talismans made Yun Tutu realize they were valuable. She quickly pulled out a notebook and pen, labeling each talisman and making notes before stashing them away.
“What are you doing? Don’t you recognize them?” Shifang asked, bewildered by her methodical labeling.
