“What do you really mean!”
Bai Ying was forced between him and the wall, not so much eager as she was irritated, “You speak to me like this without any sense of right or wrong, I should be asking you, what do you take me for?”
Seeing Jiang Mocheng still silent, she took a deep breath, “Fine, fine, let it be, whatever you think!”
After saying this, she pushed him away and tried to leave, but before she could count to two, he pulled her back again, looking at her with a profound gaze, “You didn’t go out with that Mr. Yang today, did you?”
Mr. Yang, who?
Bai Ying frowned deeply, “Who is that?”
Jiang Mocheng sneered, “You haven’t forgotten my last name, have you?”
“What?”
“My last name.”
He asked sternly. Bai Ying was cursing madly inside, ‘Crazy!’ Logically, she should knee him hard, since keeping something she doesn’t use is just trash!
But she had to admit, it felt exhilarating, very exhilarating, because his jealousy came at her full force, the tone of his voice, the words squeezed through his teeth, and his restrained and suppressed mood, all made her heart beat chaotically.
She couldn’t help but want to laugh. Perhaps Shen Jin, who had been the most present in her life over the past year, was too calm, and she was influenced by him, otherwise why would she think of seeking excitement that night?
“Your last name is Xu, how could I forget!”
Jiang Mocheng suddenly froze. Xu. His lost rationality slowly returned, what was he doing? What madness was he in now?
“The Mr. Yang you mentioned…”
Bai Ying suddenly remembered, fell silent, and looked at him in astonishment, she finally remembered.
Her assistant Xiaolan did mention taking a leave a few days ago, but such a trivial matter she naturally wouldn’t dwell on for long, so he misunderstood that the person who went out with the bodyguard named Yang was her?
She indeed had lost interest in him a few days ago, but her interest was easily piqued by him at this moment.
The men she had encountered were almost always gentle and polite in front of her, even the rich young master who had been pestering her had disguised himself well. No one likes a madman.
But… Bai Ying, with just a bit of moonlight, admired his face, more handsome in his rage. She pretended to be aggrieved.
“I don’t know who you’re talking about, we had already agreed not to see each other again. It’s just that it concerns my character, I must make it clear, if today I went out with that Mr. Yang you mentioned, then let me…”
She was just speaking off the cuff, in fact, she dared not curse herself.
Jiang Mocheng quickly interrupted her, “There’s no need.”
“It’s very necessary.”
Bai Ying, with tears in her eyes, “Why do you say I’m like this with everyone, what kind of person do you take me for? Since you’ve decided that everything I say is a lie, then let it be. Rest assured, I won’t tell anyone about this, even if we meet in the future, just pretend you don’t know me.”
He actually couldn’t tell if what she was saying was true or not. The body is always more honest than the mind and hearing her sob, he was in turmoil.
Without thinking, he blurted out, “Don’t go.”
“Stay here and continue to listen to your insults?”
Bai Ying knew she had the upper hand when she heard him say “Don’t go,” she was laughing inside, but still complaining, “I considered you my only friend, but you don’t trust me at all, you start accusing me without any sense of right or wrong, I know you want to draw a clear line with me, you could have just said so, I may be dumb, but I’m not deaf to your words.”
At this point, she wouldn’t easily give him a chance to speak. He might not believe what she said, he was just panicked, that’s why he spoke to keep her, but the real problem wasn’t resolved, she hadn’t explained the misunderstanding clearly, so saying more was pointless. If he exposed her relationship with Shen Jin, then she had nothing to say, after all, it was the truth, she could just leave happily.
But he accused her of a groundless “crime”. Who could endure such accusations being placed upon her?
“If I’m not mistaken, the person you mentioned who went out with Mr. Yang is my colleague, Sister Xiaolan.”
Bai Ying casually stated the fact, “Her surname is Jiang, the same Jiang as in Jiang Ziya. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Mr. Yang himself. Other bodyguards might not know her full name, but he definitely does.”
The management of the Shen residence is quite strict, with clear divisions of labor, and not much interaction between staff members. Even the bodyguards might not be fully aware of whether Miss Bai actually has two assistants. She had exploited this loophole.
Bai Ying was thankful for the darkness, where they could only hear each other’s breathing and not see the expressions on their faces. At this point, she was no longer worried about being caught or exposed, nor was she afraid of others discovering her relationship with him. She could spout fabricated stories with ease, and how he interpreted them was no longer her concern.
“Miss Bai has two assistants.” Bai Ying whispered, “As you know, I mostly work for Miss Bai at night, so not many people recognize me.”
Jiang Mocheng fell silent, no wonder he never saw her during the day, and she often appeared late at night.
“I’m sorry.”
He suddenly spoke in a hoarse voice.
Bai Ying continued to twist the knife, “It’s understandable that you misunderstood me. You think someone like me would come running whenever someone beckons, that I’m so poor that I’d be overjoyed if someone invited me to a meal,” she took a deep breath, her voice trembling, “Yes, you’re right, I am that kind of person.”
Jiang Mocheng couldn’t bear to hear such words. He stepped forward, looking down at her, even though he couldn’t see her clearly.
“I’m sorry. You haven’t been here for several days—”
“Why should I come?” Bai Ying interrupted him softly, “Don’t you also not want to see me? Don’t you also not want others to see me with you?”
“No.”
Bai Ying looked up, her breath mingling with his as she tilted her head back, “No what?”
Jiang Mocheng stiffened, lowering his voice, “I do want to see you. As for what happened that night, I will definitely give you a reasonable explanation, just not right now.”
Bai Ying didn’t care anymore. Men have their flaws, and whatever his reasons were, she didn’t care to listen. She hadn’t planned on a long-term relationship with him; a fleeting relationship like morning dew didn’t warrant such seriousness. Perhaps it was her renewed interest in him that made her more understanding. For instance, him sending people away for whatever reason was indeed the outcome she wanted, wasn’t it?
“Actually, this is for the best.”
She pretended to be strong, “Before I met you, life had no surprises, but I wasn’t sad. I want to go back to that life. Since the misunderstanding has been cleared up, let’s not meet again. These past few days have been too hard, I can’t endure a second time.”
Before this, no one had ever played such a role in Jiang Mocheng’s life. This made Bai Ying inappropriately recall an incident when she was shopping with Mei Yun.
Bargaining in the market really resembled the relationship between men and women; neither can see what the other is thinking, both wanting to gain a little more. When the buyer’s bargaining fails, they play their trump card, pretending to walk away, and whether they can buy the desired goods at a rock-bottom price depends on whether the seller wants to sell. The buyer must not let the seller see their eagerness, maintaining the right mindset, wanting the item is fine, but not getting it is not disappointing.
Bai Ying waited with interest for Jiang Mocheng’s response. She really wanted to leave. At least half of her desire to leave was genuine; otherwise, how could she deceive others? No matter how confident Jiang Mocheng was in the marketplace, in a field he had never ventured into, he was always a novice.
The darkness magnified the senses and made people face themselves more honestly. In a moment of impulse, he pulled her into his embrace, his left hand easily encircling her waist, his right hand lifting to gently tap the back of her head.
“There won’t be a second time.”
Bai Ying nestled into his chest, listening to his heartbeat—thump, thump, thump—with almost palpable intensity. She truly had the physique of someone who earned their living as a bodyguard… She praised inwardly.
She had hesitated, wondering if things were moving too fast, but then she thought, she wasn’t planning on eating any exquisite cuisine; since it was fast food, it had to be fast. With this in mind, she comfortably snuggled into his embrace.
Jiang Mocheng’s chin rested on the top of her head, and suddenly he didn’t want to struggle or endure anymore. He had wealth and status, many things in this world were easily within his reach, so why suppress his desires? Having realized this, he felt enlightened. He wanted her, so why couldn’t he have her?
“There won’t be a second time.”
He said, “Stay by my side from now on, I’ll take care of you.”
“Do you really like me?” She asked softly.
Jiang Mocheng didn’t know how to answer that question. All he knew was that he wanted to see her; these past few days without her, he couldn’t settle down to think. Even though he knew she wasn’t in the study, he kept coming back, and fortunately, this time he waited for her.
His silence didn’t annoy Bai Ying; even if he said “yes,” she wouldn’t care too much. She didn’t need his answer; she hesitantly reached out and hugged his lean and strong waist, smiling contentedly. Ah, she was finally going to taste this delicious fruit.
The two embraced in the dark for a long time, Bai Ying didn’t expect him to be so innocent, not even a kiss. He stopped there, just gently stroking her hair with his palm, asking in a low voice, “What’s the deal with that camera?”
Jiang Mocheng wasn’t that interested in understanding the ins and outs of the matter at this moment. Bringing it up now was just to force himself to shift his focus.
“Camera?” She was stunned, as if she had just come back to her senses from his embrace, confused, “Oh, you mean the camera.”
“The tuition you mentioned was actually a camera?”
“I noticed you seemed quite interested in cameras before.” She whispered, “But this is Miss Bai’s camera, I didn’t dare to lend it to you to play with. A few days ago, I accidentally dropped the camera, and there’s a bit of damage on the edge. Miss Bai was very angry and scolded me. Anyway, it’s going to be deducted from my salary slowly, so I might as well give it to you.”
Jiang Mocheng’s smile faded, and he asked in a somber tone, “She scolded you?” Although he knew that woman always bossed her around, his mood was completely different now. Imagining her panic and helplessness when being bullied, his expression darkened, but considering her timid nature, he didn’t show his emotions too obviously.
Bai Ying remained silent; when she was Jiang Xue, she seemed accustomed to blaming everything on “Miss Bai,” which didn’t burden her psychologically. If others spoke ill of her, she wished she could slap their mouths, but speaking ill of herself… seemed somewhat amusing? However, she still restrained her wicked sense of humor. Otherwise, if rumors spread one day that she was a spoiled, arrogant, and venomous woman, who could she reason with?
“Not really!” She defended herself guiltily, “Miss Bai is very good to me.”
Jiang Mocheng quickly adapted to the role of boyfriend. Objectively speaking, if a subordinate breaks the boss’s camera, compensation is reasonable and being scolded isn’t strange. It would be totally fair, unless the one being scolded was his girlfriend.
But who would have thought that Jiang Mocheng’s inherent trait of protectiveness would be fully excavated and developed by the woman before him at this moment?
