The service quality of this hotel is excellent. After Jiang Mocheng hung up the phone, it was less than five minutes before a knocking sound was heard at the door.
He got up to open the door. Two cleaning ladies came in and began tidying up the room.
After ensuring there was no glass on the floor, Jiang Mocheng stopped the ladies and took out his wallet from his pocket, giving each of them a banknote and said succinctly, “Thank you.”
He could see that these two cleaning ladies were indeed diligent, so tipping them was the right thing to do. You can’t let people work for nothing.
Sure enough, the two cleaning ladies hesitated for a moment but quickly accepted the money. Their smiles were even brighter than before, as if they thought Mr. Jiang looked handsome.
Bai Ying was still lost in her half-believed dreams and had some worries and fears about the future. She didn’t even notice this scene.
After the room returned to its calm state, Jiang Mochengcame to the bed again, reached out to touch her forehead, and confirmed that she was not sick.
He asked considerately, “Do you still want to have some late-night snack? Or should I have someone bring it?”
She was annoyed with him and wrinkled her nose at the faint smell of alcohol on him.
“Have you been drinking?”
Jiang Mocheng paused for a moment and explained, “I was out for business, and they insisted on pouring drinks for me. I couldn’t refuse.”
In the business world, socializing and drinking are inevitable. No matter who the other party is, if they offer him a drink at the table, refusing would be disrespectful.
Jiang Mochenghad learned this the hard way when he first returned to the country and was taught by his older brother and sister-in-law that it’s not easy for anyone.
Afraid she wouldn’t believe him, he added, “But I really didn’t drink much, it’s just that this alcohol is strong, and the smell is heavy.”
Bai Ying glared at him, “If you know it’s strong, go brush your teeth and wash your face!”
After saying that, she pushed his hand away. Feeling irritated, she lay back on the bed, pulling the blanket over herself.
Jiang Mocheng glanced at her deeply, decided not to argue with her, turned around and went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and wash his face.
His luggage was still there, and he quickly changed into clean clothes.
After making sure he didn’t smell of alcohol, he calmly got into bed, hugged her from behind, and asked in a low voice, “Are you angry because I wasn’t with you?”
Bai Ying couldn’t be bothered to respond.
“I told you on the phone that I couldn’t leave and couldn’t have dinner with you. Don’t be mad. How about I take you to the beach after I finish my work?”
Jiang Mocheng wasn’t always in a good mood, but he felt that treating a girlfriend should be different from treating others.
The beach? That’s not bad.
Bai Ying was caught by these words and quickly sobered up. Wait a minute, is this the point!
Seeing her not saying anything, he thought she was listening and her anger had subsided. “Look, I rushed back to accompany you for supper. Don’t be angry.”
Just as he was about to discuss the matter with her, Bai Ying suddenly turned around, glaring at him angrily, “You come back smelling of alcohol and still think you’re right?”
Bai Ying was already agitated, her thoughts in chaos. She didn’t think of anything else and vented on him, “Who do you think you are? I’m mad just because I said a few words to you?!”
“See what you can do!”
Bai Ying jumped up in anger, half-kneeling on the bed, looking down at the stunned man.
“I was wrong about you. You’re no different from other men! Fine, it’s over.”
She quickly got out of bed, on the verge of exploding, her efficiency in handling matters was at its limit.
She changed into clothes in a few moments and stuffed her clothes into her luggage. If Jiang Mocheng hadn’t snapped out of it in time, she might have stormed out.
Jiang Mochengblocked her at the door, frowning, looking at her, “What are you doing?”
Bai Ying coldly said, “You think I have a bad temper, so I’ll just leave.”
“When did I say that?”
Jiang Mochengwas stunned.
“You said it, I heard it. I have nothing more to say to you. Let me out!”
Jiang Mocheng’s temples throbbed, in pain. “It’s late now. Where are you going?”
This sentence also awakened Bai Ying.
She suddenly felt confused. She had a strange dream, and this dream had been bothering her.
But where was she going now? She turned her head to look outside the balcony. The night was dark, like a beast with its mouth open waiting for her to dive in.
She felt like everything around her was pressing on her, trying to swallow her. She panicked, dizzy, and in the next second, she felt her strength leaving her body while she looked at Jiang Mocheng’s stern face and his look of fear.
…
People don’t lose consciousness all at once.At one moment you feel a bit dizzy, the next you lose your sense of time and wake up in a different place than moments before.
It was no different for her. She felt like she was surrounded by the smell of medicine, and there was a low, deep male voice in her ears—
“Doctor, is she okay? She fainted suddenly. Is there something wrong with her health? Is she sick? Why hasn’t she woken up? Her hands are so cold.”
“Nothing to worry about. Her blood pressure, body temperature, and blood sugar are all normal.”
“Then why did she faint?”
“Was she emotionally agitated before?”
“…She was very agitated.”
“When a person is emotionally agitated, the cardiovascular system can experience temporary hypoxia leading to fainting. Just try to keep her emotions stable. Of course, if you’re still worried, you can take her for a comprehensive check-up.”
After the doctor left, Jiang Mocheng returned to Bai Ying’s bedside. She hadn’t woken up yet, her face pale and lips colorless.
He held her hand tightly, staring at her, feeling regretful. He shouldn’t have said that.
When Bai Ying woke up, she looked at the ceiling blankly, slowly regaining consciousness. She turned her head and saw Jiang Mochengholding her hand, looking disheveled and tired, sitting by the bed.
She retracted her gaze, lost in thought. The most important thing was to determine whether the dream she had was about the future or just a nonsensical dream.
She tried hard to recall, and indeed, there was a turning point in the story.
The male lead went abroad for business, the business encountered problems, and the stock he bought also began to plummet. Just when everyone thought he was going to fail, the situation turned around, and the stock began to rise sharply.
Bai Ying didn’t understand stocks, and she didn’t intend to get involved. But she didn’t mind trying her luck with a bit of money. After all, as the saying goes, “Fortune favors the bold.”
She had already earned more money than many people could in a lifetime, so why couldn’t she take another gamble? Losing wouldn’t be a bad thing; it would just prove that it was a trivial nightmare.
If the stock rises… that’s not a bad thing either. Looking at it from another perspective, on the one hand, she can take advantage of this momentum to gain more wealth, and on the other hand, doesn’t it prove that she can foresee the future? Since she already knew in advance, it shouldn’t be difficult to change it.
She was still thinking about how to verify this when a bothersome voice interrupted her thoughts, “You’re awake? Are you hungry? Do you want something to drink?”
Jiang Mochenghad barely slept all night, only dozing off briefly. His eyes were bloodshot, and his shirt and tie were no longer neat. He seemed wrinkled and tired.
Bai Ying angrily turned her head away, not looking at him, preferring to look at the wall.
She knew her anger was exaggerated, but wasn’t he at fault? Yeah, it was definitely his fault!
Jiang Mocheng stood by the bed silently.
He wasn’t good at apologizing. He had been stubborn since he was a child. Even when he made a mistake and was whipped by his grandfather with a cane, he remained silent, refusing to admit his fault.
Looking at the wall, Bai Ying couldn’t help but feel sad.
Although she had thought everything through and understood everything, she was still afraid. How could she accept that she was just a supporting character in a novel. The fate she once struggled to escape from, was it just a few lines written by the author?
How ridiculous.
Too ridiculous!
Tears welled up in her eyes, seeping into the pillow, drop by drop. She hadn’t realized that she was crying, feeling as if she had plunged into a lemon, her nose was so sour.
Seeing her sad and crying, Jiang Mocheng panicked. He gripped her hand tightly, afraid she would pull away, and apologized earnestly, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, it’s my fault.”
Bai Ying thought, why is it her?
Why was she abandoned by her biological parents when she was born, and they didn’t care about her at all, not afraid that she would quietly die, leaving her in the icy wilderness?
Why was she chosen by her adoptive parents, and after they gave her the love she wanted, they would take it back mercilessly and give her to someone else?
Why, after she had depended on her foster mother for more than ten years and finally saw a glimmer of hope, did that poor woman who promised to be with her for a lifetime leave her?
It seemed like she shouldn’t have any affection, and how many terrible challenges would she have to overcome to live the life she wanted?
Why do others easily have what she has to work so hard for?
Since she could remember, Bai Ying rarely felt so vulnerable.
She used to comfort herself by thinking that she was a mermaid, and mermaid tears were precious. Every tear had to be used wisely and had to be valuable.
At this moment, she choked back her tears, burying her face in the pillow, stubbornly refusing to make a sound.
No matter how bad it was, she had to keep going.
This wasn’t her fate.
No, she absolutely wouldn’t accept it. She wouldn’t accept it even if she died.
Bai Ying tightly grasped the corner of the blanket, her knuckles turning white.
She was actually quite resilient, not crying easily.
Jiang Mocheng had never felt so helpless. He could only watch as she turned away, curled up, and cried. The real pain was when people cry, they don’t dare to make a sound.
Undoubtedly, Jiang Mocheng liked her. But this kind of affection was not particularly heavy.
He liked her as a man likes a woman, wanting to hold her hand, hug her, and kiss her.
He looked at her, his eyes stinging, his heart torn.
Perhaps from this moment on, she had truly entered his heart.
