I Eloped With My Lover’s Sworn Enemy
I Eloped With My Lover’s Sworn Enemy Chapter 37

A few days later, they were back at the hospital.

Bai Ying knew she was fine, but she couldn’t resist the man beside her who solemnly took her to register, pay, and wait for a check-up.

He treated her as a patient who needed special protection and care, asking her to sit aside while he took care of everything else.

However, he wasn’t too familiar with the hospital’s procedures. From a distance, she watched him queue at the registration window.

His back was to her, and she couldn’t see his expression, but she guessed he must be frowning…

It was also thanks to him, standing a head taller than everyone else in the queue, that no one dared to cut in line today, and everything went surprisingly smoothly.

Bai Ying wasn’t interested in why Jiang Mocheng appeared at the Shen residence; it surely had nothing to do with her.

But after spending some time together, she could tell whether his feelings were genuine or not.

He had invested his heart in her and had shown real emotions. Even after knowing who she was, he still accepted her completely. It seemed that some of the nonsense he had said before could be taken seriously.

For example, when he said he liked her.

Or when he said he wouldn’t neglect her.

Bai Ying diverted her gaze. She had dialed Shen Jin’s private number at the police station, a number known to very few.

Based on her understanding of Shen Jin, he would probably appear in Ning City, in front of her, by tomorrow night at the latest.

“Are you feeling unwell?”

Jiang Mocheng, having registered, came to her side and saw her looking listless with her head down. He gently embraced her, letting her lean on his shoulder.

“No.”

Bai Ying leaned closer to him, finding comfort in his scent, which was strangely reassuring.

He was tall and broad, always moving the umbrella over her in the rain to keep her dry, and standing behind him gave her a sense of security.

He was like a solid and sturdy “shield” that could withstand many attacks.

The hospital was always crowded, and by the time they had paid, taken the X-rays, and received the results, it was already afternoon.

Bai Ying might have initially feigned discomfort, but by the end, the smell of antiseptic made her genuinely uncomfortable.

Fortunately, there was no problem. She might look slender and delicate, but her health was always quite good. She rarely got seriously or frequently ill, so such a minor collision was nothing to her. But he cared a lot, repeatedly asking the doctor, who fortunately had a good temper and patiently answered all his questions.

As Bai Ying walked out of the hospital, she glanced sideways and noticed that Jiang Mocheng’s tie had somehow become loose and crooked, yet he didn’t look disheveled.

She stopped, “Wait.”

Jiang Mocheng didn’t understand why but complied with her request.

When her fair hand touched his dark tie, he paused, looking down, watching her intently.

She untied his tie and carefully tied it again for him. Her movements weren’t exactly skilled, but they weren’t clumsy either, and it didn’t seem like her first time doing this.

She also fastened the top button of his shirt, her knuckles brushing against his Adam’s apple.

He suddenly grasped her hand, looking at her complexly, and ultimately, it was a vague jealousy that prevailed.

“From now on, you only touch my tie.”

Bai Ying looked up, “Hmm?”

“You didn’t understand what I meant?”

He smiled, mindful of her still pale complexion, not wanting to frighten her, his tone deliberately gentle, “I only have you, and you can only have me.”

Bai Ying wasn’t deaf, of course, she understood.

It seemed like he had made a significant decision, not to fuss over whom she had been with in the past or for whom she had tied a necktie. But from now on, she could only be with him, only tie neckties for him.

This man was sometimes adorably foolish.

She couldn’t help but indulge him with a nod.

They could only be together for twenty-four hours at most, so she decided to let him have his way.

After all, during the time they had been together, he had been good to her, hadn’t mistreated her, and had listened to her.

Jiang Mocheng draped his suit jacket over her to shield her from the cold wind, casually hailed a taxi, and helped her in with utmost care, afraid that she would bump into something and feel uncomfortable again.

Seeing that they had gotten into the car at the hospital entrance, the driver assumed she was a pregnant woman who wasn’t showing yet. Observing the man’s cherish for his wife, the driver couldn’t help but smile and drove even more carefully. Even with a few seconds left on the green light, he didn’t rush through but slowly stopped.

This changed Jiang Mocheng’s recent prejudice against certain taxi drivers.

When they got out of the car, there was an extra banknote as a tip.

The driver was happy, and the kind words came easily, “Thank you, thank you, and congratulations on your precious child! May your child be healthy, smart, and cute!”

Bai Ying could only ponder what he was talking about.

Jiang Mocheng paused while closing the door, surprisingly didn’t explain, but calmly nodded, “Thank you.”

After the taxi left, Bai Ying twisted him in annoyance, “What nonsense are you talking about!”

It was really one daring to say, and the other daring to respond.

Jiang Mocheng wrapped his arms around her and walked towards the hotel contentedly, “Just a stranger, no need to explain so much.”

‘Your mouth is going to laugh itself to pieces.’

Bai Ying glared at him, “No, why would he think I’m pregnant? How do I look pregnant?!”

That was the main point.

After returning to the room, she couldn’t wait to push him away and stood in front of the corridor dressing mirror. She faced the mirror for a while, then turned sideways, even tightening the waistline of her dress, looking at her flat belly, she muttered, “How could they think I’m pregnant? I need to find a tape measure…”

He couldn’t stand her fussing anymore, especially since she had just come back from the hospital.

He had no choice but to go over, hug her from behind, and hold her waist with his broad palms, saying helplessly, “No need, I measure more accurately than a ruler.”

Bai Ying hummed lightly, and to tease her, he bent his fingers and tickled her. Knowing she was ticklish, she laughed and dodged while still scolding him, and the two of them made a commotion.

After washing up, Bai Ying leaned in his arms, but her mind was elsewhere.

Even though she had confirmed the fact that she was living in a novel, she still decided not to return to Shen Jin’s side.

Looking at the worst-case scenario, after she ran away, she might have become an insignificant existence in Shen Jin’s heart.

The more it was like this, the less she could return to his side in a dejected manner.

Once she went back, Miss Bai who had run away and then returned would be greatly diminished in the Shen residence, in his heart, and her path would be even more difficult than now, and she would no longer have any autonomy.

Unless Shen Jin got tired of her, he would never give her a second chance to leave.

It was just that she had taken his money and indeed received his favour, otherwise, she would have to wonder if he was a disaster for women, simply a jinx to anyone he touched.

She just wanted to change her own fate, never intending to change his.

“What are you thinking about?”

Jiang Mocheng, who had been resting with his eyes closed, suddenly spoke up, interrupting her thoughts.

“A man.”

She teased him on purpose.

As expected, Jiang Mocheng stiffened, clenched his jaw, and stared at her with a dangerous look, “Are you sure?”

Even though he knew she was joking with him, his frown deepened upon hearing her answer, unable to hide his irritation.

Bai Ying just smiled at him.

He didn’t have the patience to listen to her answer anymore. His palm gently stroked her hair, then slid down to her neck, sealing her almost uncontrollable exclamation with his lips. She instinctively reached for something, but he caught her hand.

Later on, sweat also appeared on her forehead, “When we return to Jincheng, I want to confess something to you.”

Jiang Mocheng knew what she wanted to confess. At that moment, her black hair was disheveled, and her eyes were hazy. He watched her intently for a while, then leaned down, his hot breath invading, and asked casually by her ear, “Why can’t you say it now?”

Of course, he didn’t want her to say it at this time.

Bai Ying shook her head with difficulty, “I can’t say it yet.”

“You once asked me if I would forgive you if one day I found out you lied to me.”

Bai Ying held him gently, he couldn’t see her eyes, she stared at the ceiling and said softly, “I will forgive you. No matter what you lie to me about, I will forgive you because I really like you.”

He was the one she had chosen at first sight.

Although love at first sight is nothing but a physical attraction, she truly liked him. He was the first man she chose completely according to her heart, without wanting anything in return.

Jiang Mocheng wanted to get up and look at her, but she held him even tighter, “If you find out I’ve lied to you, if I’ve caused you trouble and inconvenience, will you forgive me?”

He felt a bit of moisture, not knowing if it was her sweat or her tears, “I—”

She seemed afraid to hear the answer to this question, not giving him a chance to speak, she said in a panic, “Never mind, don’t say it, don’t say it, I don’t want to know anymore…”

He wanted to say more, but she was no longer willing to listen.

It’s always the same few words back and forth, with no novelty.

His promises meant nothing to her, they were not what she wanted, and if they were not what she wanted, they were worthless.

Jiang Mocheng’s feelings were incredibly complex. The words she said had firmly burrowed into his heart.

He knew what she wanted to confess, but he never thought that she was holding onto a mindset of not wanting to trouble him, that she… seemed convinced that he would give up on her.

She had no confidence in him at all.

No wonder she always pressed him with questions about whether he loved her or not.

As Bai Ying was about to fall asleep in a daze, a deep and hoarse voice suddenly came through.

“Listen well.”

“No matter what you lie to me about, I will forgive you.”

Bai Ying wanted to laugh, but she was too tired from the day’s exertions, so she pretended not to hear and continued to sleep deeply, resting on his arm. She didn’t urge him to return to his own room anymore, and he contentedly held her entire body in his arms, unable to sleep, occasionally propping up his head to look at her, liking her more and more with each glance.

He would touch her cheek for a while, then lean in to kiss her. Fortunately, she was sleeping deeply, otherwise, she would have been woken up by him long ago.

…

After a good night’s sleep, Bai Ying slept until the sun was high in the sky.

When she woke up, Jiang Mocheng was already dressed neatly. Hearing her stir, he looked back at her, fastening his watch strap as he walked over.

“Awake?”

He came to the side of the bed, bent down, and left a kiss on her forehead, “I ordered breakfast for you; it will be delivered soon.”

He had official business to attend to today. He should have left an hour ago, but he didn’t want her to wake up and not see him.

Bai Ying looked at him sleepily, “Why haven’t you left yet?”

“I was waiting for you to wake up before I go.”

He wanted to kiss her again, but Bai Ying backed away, covering her mouth, “Don’t come near me without brushing your teeth.”

Jiang Mocheng gave up, and after she got up, he followed her stickily into the bathroom. If she hadn’t shooed him away, he would have wanted to watch her brush her teeth and wash her face before leaving.

Bai Ying had long experienced his clinginess, but she hadn’t realized that what she had seen before was just the tip of the iceberg.

She thought last night was the end of this brief affair.

He didn’t seem to think so.

He had muttered a lot yesterday, with one central idea; he would never abandon her, he would always take care of her and protect her, and they would stay together for a lifetime.

…

Two black sedans were parked next to the street opposite the hotel.

Someone hurried over, waiting respectfully on the side. Zhao Minghai lowered the car window, and the person reported in a low voice, “President Shen, President Zhao, there are people guarding outside the hotel and the lobby. I tried to check in, but the front desk said all the rooms were full, and the restaurant and conference hall are temporarily closed to the public.”

In short, their people couldn’t get in at all.

Shen Jin listened calmly.

Zhao Minghai, sitting in the passenger seat, turned his head and said cautiously, “This Jiang Mocheng is really something else.”

Not only that, but such a move clearly showed he didn’t want to let people go.

When they had already found out that the person who replaced Xu Yang was related to Jiang Mocheng, Shen Jin’s private phone received an unanswered call, which was from the Ning City police station.

A night had passed, and they had almost evaded the eyes of Jiang Mocheng’s people. Shen Jin had personally come to Ning City, from before dawn until now.

When Jiang Mocheng left the hotel and got into the car, Zhao Minghai clearly saw the familiar coldness in Shen Jin’s eyes.

Zhao Minghai was wondering to himself, ‘Jiang Mocheng was really too despicable.’

Although it was they who had made the first move, official business is official business, and personal matters are personal matters. Jiang Mocheng actually targeted Miss Bai, which was simply sinister, cunning, and shameless to the extreme.

Shen Jin looked at his wristwatch, was silent for more than ten seconds, and then said calmly, “It’s time for her afternoon tea.”

Zhao Minghai didn’t understand what he meant by suddenly talking about afternoon tea and didn’t dare to ask. Half an hour later, the driver exclaimed, “President Shen, Miss Bai has come out!”
