Zhao Minghai hurriedly looked up in the direction of the hotel.
Indeed, within his field of vision, a young woman in a light-colored trench coat was approaching gracefully. The bright scarf around her neck complemented the coat. Even from a distance where it was hard to see clearly, her slender figure was striking.
Bai Ying was accustomed to having afternoon tea, but from now on, she planned neither to go to the stock exchange nor to the café, comfortably enjoying this last peaceful time.
Shen Jin sat quietly in the back seat. The moment she appeared, his hand on his knee paused unconsciously. His gaze passed through the car window, watching her standing on the street side.
Zhao Minghai hesitated and asked him, “Brother Shen, should we…?”
Now is the best opportunity.
They had waited so long, just for her to come out.
He thought Shen Jin would immediately get out of the car, eager to take her away from here.
However, Shen Jin gazed at her and shook his head, saying slowly, “No rush, follow her.”
He wanted to see what she would do all day, who she would meet, and how she was doing.
Zhao Minghai then sat back down, but he didn’t expect that after Bai Ying got into a taxi, another black sedan followed.
Shen Jin didn’t seem surprised, but Zhao Minghai, after his initial shock, fell into doubt. Jiang Mocheng seemed not to restrict Miss Bo’s freedom, even having someone follow her. It looked less like surveillance and more like protection.
What did this mean?
Several speculations flashed through Zhao Minghai’s mind. He didn’t dare to think deeper and had to make conversation, saying, “Miss Bo seems to have lost a lot of weight.”
Seeing that Shen Jin didn’t speak, Zhao Minghai was encouraged and continued, “Brother Shen, we can all see Miss Bai’s feelings for you. She was deceived by Jiang Mocheng. Look, when she encountered trouble, the first person she thought of was still you…”
Isn’t the first person a woman thinks of when she is most helpless and afraid the one she cares about and misses?
“I can tell, Miss Bai is not happy either. No matter how good the hotel is, it’s not home. There’s no place as comfortable and easy as home. Naturally, she can’t eat well or sleep well. I heard she went to the hospital twice in just a few days. If you ask me, it’s all psychological.”
Shen Jin’s expression softened, “She has lost weight.”
Hearing this, Zhao Minghai felt a weight lifted from his heart.
Actually, this was also Shen Jin’s private matter, and he had no right to interfere. But having been by Shen Jin’s side for many years, he understood some things better than Shen Jin himself.
If Shen Jin had no feelings for Bai Ying, he wouldn’t have spent sleepless nights, even putting official matters aside, rushing over upon hearing news of her.
Since there were feelings, there was really no need to separate over such a trivial matter.
He sincerely hoped the two would reconcile, as it would mean good days for everyone. Otherwise, he would have to be on edge dealing with the unpredictable Shen Jin.
Bai Ying arrived at the nearest park. The weather was getting better, and there were people selling kites in the square. She picked one out.
Staying in the hotel was too stifling, watching time slowly pass by made her feel uneasy, so she decided to come out for some fresh air.
The sky was cloudless, and she quickly got the kite up in the air.
Two children ran until their faces were red, but the kite kept crashing down. Seeing their dejected looks, Bai Ying laughed even more joyously. She was very smart and capable, good at everything she did, including flying kites!
But she was happy too soon.
The kite also became listless. As Bai Ying was getting irritated, a calm male voice came from behind—
“Bai Ying, that’s not how you fly a kite.”
She turned around, and the string in her hand loosened.
Shen Jin walked over unhurriedly, stood beside her, took the reel, and reeled it in for her.
He looked at the free kite in the sky and said, “You have to pull it a bit, but also let it go. You can’t let it fly too far away, nor pull it too tight.”
Bai Ying was startled, never expecting Shen Jin to appear before her without warning. She thought she would see him at the hotel or some other place.
Everything happened so suddenly, she didn’t have time to organize her words, and could only stare at him blankly.
After getting the kite back up, Shen Jin handed the reel back to her, “What happened yesterday?”
Bai Ying was slightly stunned, “What?”
Shen Jin’s gaze deepened, “Why did you go to the police station, did something happen?”
Bai Ying bowed her head, speaking softly, “It’s nothing, just…”
She pursed her lips, “The taxi driver hit someone, they were arguing fiercely, and wouldn’t let me leave. I had no choice but to call the police and go make a statement.”
“Did you get hurt?”
He didn’t care about anything else, he just wanted to ask her this question.
“No, no.”
Bai Ying was somewhat at a loss, anxiously saying, “I didn’t know… I didn’t know I dialed your number, I was just really scared at that time.”
“I’ve said before, no matter what happens, you can call me.”
Shen Jin did not ask her why she wanted to leave because her reasons were already written in that sad and desperate letter. He also did not bring up Jiang Mocheng, as he was simply not in the mood to mention this person at this moment.
The two of them quietly flew a kite.
Bai Ying occasionally stole glances at him, hiding her complex emotions.
The number of people in the square was dwindling.
Whether to reel in or let go of the kite, such a simple matter seemed to have become a metaphor.
Shen Jin did not rush her, even though he had already noticed the person following her hastily leaving to inform Jiang Mocheng, he calmly waited for her.
Bai Ying knew he was waiting for her. She forcefully broke the thin string and let go of the kite, looking up as it flew further and further away.
Shen Jin looked up briefly, noncommittal, “Where do you staying?”
He asked knowingly, and Bai Ying was clear about it, quietly looking down at the slight creases on his suit.
When did he come to Ning City?
Seeing that she did not answer, he spoke helplessly, “It’s getting windy, don’t catch a cold, I’ll take you back first.”
Bai Ying’s eyelashes trembled lightly, and she nodded, “Mhm.”
She seemed to still be that Bai Ying, the one who would never refuse any of Shen Jin’s requests.
Bai Ying got into the car, and Zhao Minghai went to another car, so in the car, besides the driver, there were only her and Shen Jin.
Neither of them spoke. In such a low-pressure atmosphere, Bai Ying turned her head to look out the car window. Shen Jin was just like that, the more he cared about something, the more he kept it to himself.
From their reunion until now, he had said a lot of inconsequential things but had not asked her about her departure and the various events during this time.
He cared deeply.
Bai Ying felt like laughing, really wanting to throw his words from back then in his face.
Wasn’t he supposed to be her brother? Didn’t he hope she would find her happiness?
Then why was he unhappy again? Why wasn’t he smiling?
The park was close to the hotel. After arriving, the car was silent. Bai Ying stayed in the car for a few more minutes, and seeing that he still did not intend to speak, she had to push open the car door, and he followed her out.
He glanced unintentionally at the fountain outside the hotel, “Do you need them to pack your luggage?”
Bai Ying seemed stunned for a few seconds, looking at him blankly, “Why pack… luggage?”
“Some things, I’ll explain to you slowly after we go back.”
Shen Jin looked at her, his voice gentle yet assertive, “But you have to come with me now, you can’t stay here any longer.”
At this time, he didn’t even want to mention the name Jiang Mocheng to her.
“Bai Ying, listen to me.”
Just as his hand was about to touch her hair.
A car sped from a distance, the tires screeching across the ground, even startling the idle birds on the telephone pole, who flapped their wings and scattered as if fleeing for their lives.
The car stopped in time.
Bai Ying looked over, and only Shen Jin’s brows flashed with impatience, as if he had already guessed who it was.
Jiang Mocheng pushed open the car door, and seeing that reckless thing trying to touch her hair, his body filled with coldness, even his teeth almost shattered
But as soon as he got out of the car, he put on that calm and composed demeanor. In Bai Ying’s surprised gaze, he walked steadily to her side, naturally and tacitly.
Intimately taking the bag in her hand, his hand brushing against hers, he asked softly, “Why are your hands so cold? Did you drink the chicken soup someone sent you?”
Then he calmly faced Shen Jin, whose expression was as dark as water, the smile not reaching his eyes—
“Oh, President Shen, what brings you here?”
