Chapter 16.2
Recalling the information his assistant had found about the regular guests on “Forward Charge,” only one person matched all the details she had revealed.
Gong Yue.
So, she had mistaken him for Gong Yue?
Zhou Jingyu sat in his expensive leather chair, his long legs elegantly crossed, then stood up from the sofa and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
Lingcheng was where he was born and raised, but standing at the top of this tall building, it felt inexplicably cold and lonely.
The phone left on his desk continued to “ding” with new messages from the person he had been chatting with these past few days.
He vaguely understood why she was so attentive with her messages.
It was probably just a prank typical of girls.
They like someone and approach them under a false identity.
But she wasn’t originally looking for him.
If she wasn’t looking for him, he didn’t want to play along anymore.
About ten minutes later, Zhou Jingyu walked back to his desk.
He picked up the phone he had casually placed on the table, and the screen lit up with the chat window from his recent conversation with her.
The chat box displayed several new messages—
[Candy: By the way, everyone in the industry has high hopes for “Hear Your Heart.” After you finish filming, when the show airs, you’ll definitely become a big star!]
[ Candy: Don’t ignore me when that happens!]
……
[ Candy: Senior Brother, why aren’t you replying?]
[Candy: You haven’t replied to me lately!]
[Candy: Senior Brother.]
[Candy: Senior Brother~~]
……
He exited the chat and pulled up the option to delete the friend.
As his finger hovered over the button, he hesitated.
……
……
…Maybe he should keep her on his friend list.
His friend list was just too empty.
He couldn’t afford to delete anyone else.
……
Wen Tang didn’t know what was going on on the other side. The sudden disappearance of replies was puzzling.
He was no longer the “Senior Brother” who always replied immediately!
But she didn’t take it too seriously; perhaps he was in a bad mood from being replaced for an episode. After all, he was still young and might not know how to deal with such situations. As an older sister, she needed to understand and be empathetic.
Wen Tang spent the week promoting the new drama, barely having time to rest. Sometimes, she only got three or four hours of sleep a day, all while traveling by plane and car.
Naturally, Wen Tang had no time to chat on her phone.
In the first two days, despite her busy schedule, she still made time to send a few messages, but the replies were always absent. After several attempts, Wen Tang completely abandoned the idea of pursuing the little cool guy.
After a week of promotional activities, when she got back to her apartment and picked up her phone, she realized that Gong Yue hadn’t contacted her since the last time.
As an adult, she knew what this meant.
Wen Tang wasn’t the type to waste her enthusiasm on someone who wasn’t reciprocating.
Since that’s the case, she decided to let it go.
Although she felt a slight regret that she didn’t manage to get him into her grasp, she was fine with it.
……
After the plane landed, Wen Tang took a car back to her apartment.
Liu Meifen personally came to pick her up at the airport.
They hadn’t seen each other for about ten days since their last meeting at the drama set.
Liu Meifen didn’t inform Wen Tang that she would come to pick her up.
“I’ve already talked to the production team. Take another half day off tomorrow, and then return to the set in the afternoon.”
Avoiding any mention of previous matters, Liu Meifen said after the car started.
Wen Tang, wearing sunglasses, didn’t take them off after getting into the car. She turned her head towards the window, ignoring Liu Meifen. She responded to Liu Meifen’s comment with a faint “mm.”
“On ‘Happy Sunday,’ they didn’t give any prior notice and just called Lu Zhiling. The production team is calculating; they want to create some buzz around you, but they don’t consider how long ago that was. Is that appropriate? I’ve personally asked them to cut out all scenes with Lu Zhiling. If they don’t, the episode definitely won’t air!” Liu Meifen frowned, her voice filled with anger. She never had a good attitude towards Wen Tang’s ex-boyfriends.
This was typical of Liu Meifen’s behavior, and Wen Tang was used to it.
It was a pity for Lu Zhiling who had traveled a long distance only to have his appearance cut from the show.
Wen Tang remained silent.
Liu Meifen, feeling a bit irked, thought Wen Tang was silently protesting her actions.
“Wen Tang, be honest with me. Are you still thinking about him? Do you want to rekindle the old flame?”
Liu Meifen, suspicious and doubtful, asked.
There was a possibility that Wen Tang, having been in a new drama crew for a while with no new developments, was not interested in new faces but in old ones.
If that was the case, just thinking about it made Liu Meifen feel dizzy.
Unexpectedly, Wen Tang’s response was only a scoff.
She finally turned her head to look at Liu Meifen, but it was just a glance before turning away again, showing no intention of engaging further.
Liu Meifen was even more annoyed!
If you don’t want to look at me, fine, but what does it mean when you glance back only briefly?
“Am I wrong?” Liu Meifen was furious about Wen Tang’s messy exes, feeling disgusted and annoyed, “If you weren’t thinking about him, you should have simply refused to participate in the program until they removed him. Don’t you know that appearing with these people could cause negative effects? Do I really have to deal with the production team?”
“Wen Tang, I think you’re still holding on to your old feelings for him. You just can’t let go! Persistent and stubborn!”
Liu Meifen’s anger skyrocketed at the thought of Wen Tang’s actions, unable to contain it.
Her daughter was always contrary to her!
The obedient girl from years ago seemed like a different person!
Liu Meifen was extremely angry, but Wen Tang showed no reaction to her words. She scoffed and said indifferently, “Think what you want. It’s up to you.”
She knew exactly how to infuriate others.
Liu Meifen was so frustrated she almost had a heart attack!
The car stopped in the underground parking lot of the apartment building. The mother and daughter, along with Wen Tang’s two assistants, took the elevator up to Wen Tang’s apartment.
In the elevator, neither mother nor daughter acknowledged each other, creating a cold, frosty atmosphere with the air almost frozen.
Yang Yang and Ke Xin stood in the corner, keeping as far away from the icy duo as possible, huddling together in silence.
The standoff continued until the elevator reached the designated floor and the doors opened.
At the elevator door stood another person.
Since Ke Xin had last seen Zhou Jingyu, she had not seen him again. The first time she saw him, she was captivated by his looks, and the second time was no different!
She tried not to make it too obvious and discreetly tugged at Yang Yang’s clothes.
Wen Tang had not had good experiences with this neighbor before, and with Liu Meifen standing beside her, she had no interest in acknowledging him. As the door opened, she walked out, ignoring him completely, as though she hadn’t seen him.
Liu Meifen knew there were two apartments on Wen Tang’s floor but had never met the neighbor. This was the first time she saw Zhou Jingyu. Observing his extraordinary demeanor made her take a few more glances.
Moreover, her rebellious daughter, Wen Tang, actually turned around unexpectedly after taking a few steps.
“Hey!” Wen Tang addressed Zhou Jingyu. She didn’t know his name, so she just used “Hey” to get his attention.
Wen Tang didn’t want to greet her neighbor; she suddenly remembered that the suit Zhou Jingyu had used to cover her lower half was still at her place after being dry-cleaned.
“Your clothes are still at my place. Do you want to wait a moment while I go get them?”
As Zhou Jingyu looked up at her, Wen Tang spoke.
Unlike Yang Yang and Ke Xin, who knew the situation well—Ke Xin had taken the clothes for dry-cleaning and they had no secrets between them—Liu Meifen’s eyes widened in surprise, her gaze sharp and constantly scanning Zhou Jingyu.
Zhou Jingyu, however, remained indifferent to the emotions of others. It was none of his business.
He had a car waiting for him outside.
Zhou Jingyu gave a slight nod and said, “Maybe next time.”
“Or,” Zhou Jingyu added, “if Miss Wen finds my clothes are taking up space, you can just throw them into the donation bin.”
Wen Tang frowned at his words.
What did he mean by that?
Did he no longer want the clothes she had used?
Disdain???
During Zhou Jingyu’s remarks, Ke Xin and Yang Yang, who had been in the corner of the elevator, quietly exited the elevator.
After Zhou Jingyu finished speaking, he gave a slight nod to the people at the elevator entrance and then walked inside.
Once the elevator doors closed, Ke Xin couldn’t help but cover her chest, marveling at such a handsome man! That custom-made suit, based on Ke Xin’s years of experience in the entertainment industry, would start at least in the six figures. To just throw it away like that! How extravagant!
So handsome and so wealthy!
It was every woman’s ultimate dream!!
Ke Xin couldn’t stop herself from fawning over the closed elevator doors. Little did she know that Liu Meifen, just a few steps away, had her brows furrowed as if she was swatting flies.
After the elevator doors closed, Liu Meifen turned to Wen Tang angrily, “Wen Tang, you’d better explain to me why his clothes are in your house?!!”
