◎ Being stared at by her made even his temples throb ◎
If not for the many responsibilities and obligations in reality keeping Xu Tiancheng grounded, he wouldn’t have known how he managed to get through the entire day. He checked his phone every five minutes, only to be met with disappointment each time.
It wasn’t until evening that he finally got in touch with her.
It turned out she was on a business trip. She hadn’t come just for the words, “I will come to see you no matter what.”
It was fine. It didn’t matter. It wasn’t important. Xu Tiancheng had long learned to comfort himself. So what if she wasn’t coming specifically for him? The result was still the same. She had said she would come to see him no matter what, and fate had brought her here. If he insisted on interpreting it as destiny, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
That very night, Xu Tiancheng drove over. How could he possibly hold himself back?
Teacher Seagull refused to meet, which was understandable. No matter how lively their conversations had been online, they were still just internet friends. She was a young woman, alone, in an unfamiliar city, and he was a grown man she had never met before. Safety was naturally her top priority.
That made sense.
But since he had already come, he wasn’t going to leave empty-handed.
Before rushing out the door, he had frantically changed outfits three times. Who would believe it? He had even considered wearing a formal suit but decided against it in the end. That would be too much. Since this was his first appearance in reality, he should dress naturally, so he wouldn’t put too much pressure on her.
He made sure to give her enough space, letting her observe him from afar. No matter what, she must like his type. Seeing him in person should earn him at least a point or two.
The outcome seemed to be good. Judging by her slightly shy reaction, she didn’t seem to dislike him.
To be honest, Xu Tiancheng hadn’t planned on doing anything that night. Even if Teacher Seagull had agreed to meet him, even though their conversations had already touched on 18+ topics, he hadn’t intended to take things any further.
In recent years, the local night lake tours had become incredibly popular, attracting not only locals but also tourists from other cities who flew or took high-speed trains just to experience them.
On the way to the hotel, while waiting at a red light at a certain intersection, Xu Tiancheng quickly bought two tickets for the night lake tour. Just in case—what if she wanted to go? He had heard people talk about it many times, calling it the new go-to dating spot, though he had never been there himself.
Yes, that night, he had prepared a very cliché date plan.
But then, Teacher Seagull—true to her name—completely threw him off with a single message.
Teacher Seagull: “What should we do? My colleague and I share a room, so it’s not very convenient for me to sneak out in the middle of the night to kiss you.”
At that moment, Xu Tiancheng stared at his phone, his entire being—inside and out, body and soul—completely subdued by her.
He knew which room she was in. It was obvious. Among the countless identical square windows of the high-rise hotel, only one had its curtains opening and closing repeatedly. From the dimly lit street below, the brightly lit room stood out, and no one could miss the graceful silhouette swaying by the window.
For a split second, he had the urge to pull her down and kiss her senseless, to kiss her until she was dizzy and breathless, until she admitted outright that she was his girlfriend.
Of course, that was just a thought. He would never actually do it. That would be far too crude.
She hadn’t even decided whether she wanted to meet him yet. So he would wait—wait until she finished her work, wait until she had time, wait until she thought of him.
It wasn’t so bad when he was busy, but the moment things quieted down, he couldn’t stop thinking about her.
It was a strange yet wonderful feeling. Suddenly, she wasn’t just a digital presence, a username called “Seagull at a Dock.” She was real—a living, breathing person, standing on the same ground as him, breathing the same air.
Naturally, Xu Tiancheng couldn’t sleep that night. Instead, he got in his car and aimlessly wandered the streets nearby.
One night turned into another, and as the days passed, his confidence began to waver.
Would Teacher Seagull really be heartless enough to leave without seeing him? Would she finish her two-week business trip and just go?
Thankfully, she wasn’t that cruel. By the weekend, she finally remembered him.
For the past few days, Xu Tiancheng had practically been glued to his phone, waiting for her.
When the system notification popped up—”Seagull at a Dock liked your post”—his head spun for a moment, but his heart settled.
At last, all his restless anticipation had found its place.
He didn’t want to play this game of half-truths and mixed signals anymore. He knew exactly what he wanted.
Adjusting his phone’s camera to show his full face, he sent her an invitation with absolute sincerity:
“Let’s meet.”
Yes, meet—then formally tell her he liked her and ask her to be his girlfriend.
He had planned everything out so well.
But Teacher Seagull—true to her name—completely threw him off with a single message.
Teacher Seagull: “How would you kiss me? Would you hold my face and kiss me the moment we meet, without hesitation? I love being kissed that way—it makes me feel wanted, protected, possessed.
Where would your hands be when you kiss me? Would they gently caress my cheeks, or would you hold my waist firmly?
Would the lights be on in the room?
Would you press me against the wall in the dark, or would your arms wrap tightly around me as we entwine like intertwined vines, desperate to draw sustenance from each other?”*
Reading this long, sensual message, Xu Tiancheng felt every drop of blood in his body rush to his head in an instant.
He hadn’t been drinking, yet he was already intoxicated.
At this point, he could only feel contempt for himself.
He really was that predictable.
Even if Teacher Seagull were to say she wanted to kill him right now, he would probably hand her the knife himself.
With the car window wide open, the night wind roared past his ears as he sped through the city streets like a racecar, completely ignoring the possibility of traffic cameras catching him.
His mind was filled with only one thought:
Should he follow her instructions—no, should he follow his instincts—and kiss her the moment he saw her?
After all, she had played him in circles.
At the very least, when it came to kissing, he had to take the lead.
Xu Tiancheng had been bold in his thinking, but when he finally met her in person, he realized he couldn’t actually go through with it. This was, in every sense, their first meeting. She was even more beautiful and lively than in her photos. His mind, on the verge of shutting down, couldn’t come up with any adjectives beyond “beautiful.”
He was so nervous that his entire body tensed up, too stiff to even steal an extra glance at her.
Meanwhile, Teacher Seagull showed no signs of awkwardness. She greeted him with a bright, open smile and, after some small talk, got into his car. Her big eyes darted around curiously, constantly observing him with interest.
As she looked at him, the atmosphere subtly shifted.
Her eyes were like a clear spring, reflecting the soft glow of the streetlights. His shadow was caught within the rippling light, drawing him in, making it impossible to resist.
Xu Tiancheng could feel his temples throbbing under her intense gaze. He kept telling himself to hold back—touching her the first time they met might make him seem too eager. He wanted to kiss her, wanted it so badly his whole body felt like it was burning. But he hadn’t come here just for a kiss.
That might have been his intention, but she was clearly here just for the kiss.
She left no room for misinterpretation. No matter what he said, she kept a faint smile on her lips, her shimmering eyes fixed on him, blinking slowly. Her gaze had a hook, filled with a message so obvious it was impossible to ignore.
She was telling him: Kiss me.
Xu Tiancheng resisted again and again until he finally gave in. He leaned over, pressing her into the passenger seat with his full weight, and kissed her hard, meeting those affectionate, starry eyes head-on.
