In the quiet summer night, the two of them stood at the intersection, looking at each other. Lu Lin walked up, and Shi Sheng turned around to walk beside him.
Shi Sheng reached out to hold Lu Lin’s hand, with a warm touch.
They returned home and closed the door. The light in the entrance hall hadn’t been turned on yet. In the darkness, Lu Lin suddenly lowered his head and kissed him. Shi Sheng lifted his head to meet Lu Lin’s neck, his waist was hugged tightly, and suddenly his back was pressed against the wall.
Shoes were kicked off, suits and ties were pulled apart, and in the darkness, their breaths intertwined. Lu Lin hugged him tightly and kissed him over and over again until they collapsed on the soft sofa.
Suddenly, it seemed like Shi Sheng lifted one of his legs from the side, his hand clenched the sofa cushion, gently stroking Lu Lin’s hair in the trembling.
“The flight is tomorrow, will you miss me?” Lu Lin asked in a hoarse voice, biting his ear.
“Def… Definitely, yeah,” Shi Sheng breathed heavily, in the blur, recognizing the contours of Lu Lin’s features, “I always… miss you.”
Lu Lin hugged him again, and Shi Sheng tilted his head back, his neck exposed, his fingertips tightly gripped, kissed repeatedly.
Outside, it started to rain lightly. Lu Lin’s endurance, capable of running dozens of kilometers with a heavy load, was reflected well in the silent night. Shi Sheng was sleepy and not very conscious, but he heard Lu Lin whispering many words in his ear, grasping a key word “like,” and immediately said he liked him too.
He heard Lu Lin laugh softly in his ear.
“Why do you like me?”
“Just because, I like you, when you get old…” Shi Sheng closed his eyes and said, “I’ll buy you a fully automatic electric wheelchair and push you to sunbathe.”
“I’ve noted down this big plan you’ve made.”
Lu Lin took him to take a shower, this time washing him very carefully, then carried him to the big bed, turning off the bedside lamp with a rustle. Shi Sheng instinctively rolled into his arms and fell asleep heavily.
Early the next morning, Lu Lin had to go back to the dorm to pack his bags and fill out forms.
Shi Sheng, tired, leaned against the door and watched him get into the car, then went back to bed for a nap. Before long, he was awakened by Lu Lin’s video call. He was about to board the plane and bid farewell to Shi Sheng from the airport.
“Ge, go ahead, let me sleep a little longer.” Shi Sheng huddled under the blanket, only half of his face showing, his phone resting on the pillow.
“Really tired?”
“Yeah…”
“I remember you have to go to the recording studio in the afternoon,” Lu Lin said as he dragged his suitcase towards the security checkpoint, “Are you not going again?”
“What!” Shi Sheng immediately woke up, he opened his eyes wide to look at the time, and quickly sat up from the bed.
Lu Lin shook his head with a smile, and ended the video call.
“Why did he hang up without saying goodbye?” Shi Sheng scratched his chicken coop-like hair, jumped off the bed, and then fell to the ground with a slap.
He forgot, his legs were still weak.
He sat on the toilet with a toothbrush in his mouth, asking Wu Nan er to bring him a sandwich. After putting on his clothes, he washed his face and combed his hair.
When Shi Sheng drove to the studio, Wu Nan er came out and handed him a heated sandwich, “Didn’t Lu Lin prepare one for you?” Only then did Shi Sheng remember to message Lu Lin, but he had already boarded the plane.
After checking the schedule, which was seven hours long, Shi Sheng stood frozen at the entrance of the recording studio. What to do? In the first hour without Lu Lin, he missed him, missed him terribly.
“Why is it that as soon as Lu Lin goes on a business trip, you start to become incapable of taking care of yourself again?” Wu Nan er teased.
At this moment, Shi Sheng suddenly realized that it seemed he was “incapable of taking care of himself.”
Ever since the accident, Lu Lin had been by his side, and Shi Sheng didn’t find anything wrong with that. Thinking back, he used to rely on his alarm clock to wake up, and once it was turned off, he would fall back asleep. He would only realize he was hungry when it was time to eat, either ordering takeout or waiting for his colleagues to feed him. Once Lu Lin came into his life, there was someone to wake him up in the morning, someone to prepare meals for him three times a day, and life indeed became different.
“Hey Nan er, do you think these days I’ve been with Lu Lin, have I been helpful to him? Or have I been relying on him all along?” Shi Sheng took the sandwich and took a bite.
Wu Nan er looked at him strangely.
“In love, there needs to be mutual .reliance Now I’m starting to worry that I’ve become dependent on Lu Lin for everything…”
“Shi Sheng, come in, it’s your turn!”
“Alright, coming, Yan Jie.”
Shi Sheng heard Yan Suyu calling inside and turned to enter the recording studio.
Li Ting came over and patted Wu Nan er’s shoulder, watching Shi Sheng’s back with a chuckle. “The self-awareness of the lovers in love is quite strong.”
Inside, Shi Sheng found a seat and the recording engineer opened the sound card. He flipped through the script and started recording the radio drama with Junzi Yu, while the director and recording engineer listened nearby.
“These lines of dialogue form a bond as seamless as the jade rings of Chi You, as if connected like cicada wings. They shall serve as our token of affection.” Junzi Yu’s voice was gentle. “Amidst the haze of the mundane world, these words can still be remembered. Do not be swayed by emotions.”
“Don’t be swayed by emotions? Does that mean don’t let love cloud your judgment?” Shi Sheng read the lines with a hint of innocence.
Junzi Yu chuckled, “Arong, you’ll understand one day.”
Junzi Yu glanced at Shi Sheng, then suddenly reached out to pat his head. Shi Sheng’s hand holding the microphone stopped, and he recoiled back to his original position.
“Sorry,” he muttered softly. “I couldn’t help it.”
“This seems like it can be included, and it doesn’t feel out of place.” The recording engineer’s voice came through, “Director, what do you think, Feng Ge?”
“It’s pretty good,” Feng Guoqiang took a sip of water from his thermos cup, “Oh right, didn’t the fans say they wanted bonus episodes? There were quite a few comments on Weibo. Sheng and Ziyu, can you two record a segment?”
“What?” Shi Sheng was stunned.
“You remember that rainy night scene in the car? They’re talking about the panting, movements,” Feng Guoqiang flipped through the script. “The two of you should be able to handle it, you’ve worked together on recordings before.”
“Hahaha, I remember that, Shi Sheng’s face was all red.” Li Ting laughed and clapped her hands, “Our studio gained several thousand followers last night.”
“Then let’s set a time. Okay, we’ll edit and post it on Weibo this Sunday.”
Before Shi Sheng could stop him, Feng Guoqiang had already decided on the matter in a few words. Shi Sheng was speechless, looking at Junzi Yu, who remained seated, with his head lowered and lips slightly raised.
The most difficult thing to handle in the workplace is that some matters cannot be refused for the sake of interpersonal relationships. In fact, recording it wouldn’t have been a big deal originally, but because the recording was with Junzi Yu, it was different. Since he knew Junzu Yu had this intention towards him, he had to decisively crush it.
Shi Sheng continued recording, thinking about this matter until the recording was over, deciding to find Feng Guoqiang to push back on it.
He opened the door and saw Feng Guoqiang sitting there flipping through the script. When he saw Shi Sheng coming out, he casually glanced up, then lowered his head to continue reading.
“Shi Sheng, you can go back now.”
Shi Sheng pulled over a chair and sat down, saying softly, “Director Feng, the matter of recording the car scene might not work.”
“Why?” Feng Guoqiang looked up again, lifted his glasses, the look in his eyes carrying a hint of displeasure.
Shi Sheng thought for a moment. “Because… my boyfriend would be jealous.”
