Lu Lin’s plan to get Shi Sheng to move in with him fell through.
The next day, the wealthy Shi Sheng upgraded to a VIP ward for himself, hired a caregiver, and even opened Taobao to buy a foldable lightweight smart four-wheel mobility scooter for the elderly and disabled.
Lu Lin raised an eyebrow, “For the elderly and disabled?”
“It’s for two people, and there’s a seat for you in the back. Thoughtful, right?” Ever since checking his account balance, Shi Sheng acted like a big shot.
“Very thoughtful,” Lu Lin chuckled helplessly, “How did you remember your bank card password?”
“Simple, just thought about how I would set the password if I were me.”
Soon, Shi Sheng could get out of bed, remove his stitches and bandages, and apart from practicing morning exercises every day, he wandered around the ward and corridors in an oversized patient gown.
People from the studio and a few friends would occasionally check on his recovery.
But Lu Lin felt that this was not enough. If they continued like this, he and Shi Sheng would return to their original parallel paths, doing their own things, only intersecting on QQ.
So, he started to take action.
Originally, according to Shi Sheng’s normal thoughts, he should have been discharged from the hospital and returned home to work normally after some time.
But for some reason, Lu Lin came to the hospital every time he had free time. Sometimes, he didn’t even go back at night and slept on the small bed in the ward.
In the dim light, the neon lights penetrated through the half-closed curtains and cast on Lu Lin’s face on the small bed, everything suddenly quiet, without the hustle and bustle of the city and human voices.
In the dimness, Shi Sheng often couldn’t sleep because of the faint pain in his body. He looked at Lu Lin with open eyes, able to see Lu Lin’s chin. This guy almost falls asleep as soon as his head touches the pillow. His breathing in the darkness was long and continuous.
“Why do you always come?” he asked strangely one day, although he hoped someone would keep him company and chat to alleviate his boredom. “You should be busy, right?”
“I’m worried about you,” Lu Lin said calmly, picking up some food for him without much expression.
Shi Sheng tilted his head, but still obediently ate the food Lu Lin offered. The caregiver stood silently on the side, watching this man who not only snatched his tasks every day but also exceeded the quota.
Lu Lin’s care and concern for Shi Sheng outweighed even that of his cheap parents. But he fell silent when he saw Lu Lin getting up at five every day, doing exercises and chores, and couldn’t help but worry.
He couldn’t let Lu Lin get up at five every day, running between the hospital and the fire rescue command center. Even iron man probably couldn’t handle it.
In the end, while Lu Lin was cutting an apple for him, Shi Sheng leaned over.
“Or… I could move into the command center dormitory with you?”
Lu Lin paused, raising an eyebrow. Shi Sheng seemed to see a fleeting triumphant smile in his eyes, but it must have been his imagination.
“Okay, I’ll come pick you up tomorrow.”
Living together under the guise of lovers, he didn’t believe Shi Sheng couldn’t be swayed by him little by little. With patience, he could wear him down.
Of course, Lu Lin hadn’t considered the possibility that Shi Sheng was already inclined toward him.
Shi Sheng was discharged from the hospital.
Nurses came to change the medicine bottles and remove various instruments. Lu Lin picked him up and placed him in the folding lightweight smart wheelchair for elderly and disabled people. Shi Sheng felt like he was being lifted up and down weightlessly by Lu Lin, who didn’t seem to exert much effort.
Seeing how capable his boyfriend was, compared to his own thin arms and legs, Shi Sheng couldn’t help but shake his head in amazement. He probably believed he was being coddled.
Originally, Lu Lin was going to take Shi Sheng in his private car, but Shi Sheng, who hadn’t seen the light of day for a long time, insisted on trying out his new electric wheelchair. And so they did.
“Are you sure you want to ride all the way like this?” Lu Lin took a deep breath.
“Come on up,” he patted the small cushion behind the electric wheelchair, “Don’t be polite.”
Lu Lin fell silent. He still had some pride.
So an odd scene appeared on the street: a man in short-sleeved summer uniform riding a motorcycle, and a wheelchair running parallel to it, one in the motor lane and the other in the non-motor lane. Shi Sheng, who hadn’t been out for a long time, excitedly waved at Lu Lin across the railing.
He really missed the Shi Sheng who woke up with amnesia, obediently apologizing while resting his head on his hand.
“Lu Lin, don’t be shy!”
Lu Lin sighed and reluctantly responded to Shi Sheng’s greeting.
It was as if he had initially thought he was protecting a pitiful weakling, only to find out he was dealing with a lively ghost who bounced around him every day.
They arrived at the fire rescue command center like this, under the surprised gazes of the guards and onlookers. Lu Lin parked the motorcycle at the entrance without changing his expression and pushed him towards the command center dormitory.
“Good evening, Captain!”
“Hey, isn’t this Captain Lu? You’ve been hiding in the golden house for a while, decided to come out for a walk?”
“Captain, this is the little guy you mentioned, right? Fair and clean, quite delicate.”
Passing by the firefighters, they chuckled and patted Lu Lin’s shoulder teasingly. “We’ve moved all your stuff over, the place is clean, and the soundproofing is top-notch!”
Shi Sheng looked up when he heard this and stared strangely at Lu Lin.
“What are you thinking?” Lu Lin tapped his forehead. “They’re saying there’s an empty room next to the dormitory. it’s been changed to a recording room.”
“Oh—”
On the other side, Commissar Li Guanyu walked over and handed the key to Lu Lin.
“The microphone and sound card you wanted, along with some clothes, have all been packed. The power is off, water is shut, dust covers are on,” Li Guanyu inspected the silly child looking around on the wheelchair, “Now that everyone’s here, focus on training. Don’t take any more leave, or you’ll lose your annual leave.”
“Yes.”
Lu Lin’s expression was serious as he saluted.
Watching Lu Lin push the wheelchair away, Li Guanyu immediately changed his expression.
“Come over here,” he beckoned to a few onlookers, “Do you remember Lu Lin’s shower gel? Do you remember that time when the boys and girls charged forward?”
“Let me tell you guys, actually he is…”
—
Shi Sheng was unknowingly carried upstairs by Lu Lin.
The dormitory was indeed cleaned very neatly. Lu Lin took his change of clothes and prepared to take a shower first. Shi Sheng lay on the new bed, the pillow and blanket carrying the scent of the sun. He took a deep breath and sent a message to several colleagues at the studio, inviting them for dinner tomorrow.
“You just got discharged from the hospital, and you want to go out tomorrow?” At that moment, Lu Lin popped his head out of the bathroom and asked him.
“Ah, how did you know?”
“You sent it to my WeChat, dummy.”
“…” Shi Sheng decided to play dumb, “Hehe.”
Lu Lin closed the bathroom door again, and the sound of the shower spraying water came from inside. Shi Sheng, feeling bored, opened Wu Nan er’s chat window, and asked him to send over the recent tasks of the studio.
“Do you want to know your recent work arrangements?” Wu Nan er replied instantly.
“Yeah.”
Soon, Wu Nan er sent them all over. Shi Sheng looked at the screen full of white message boxes, lost in thought.
Hand-drawn books, game CG, game dubbing, animation dubbing, film dubbing, radio dramas… Shi Sheng furrowed his brows slightly, “Am I an octopus or a workaholic?”
“Aren’t you a money lover?” Wu Nan er joked, with a hint of laughter in his tone. “You accept whatever comes with quick money, but it’s most important now to take care of your health. I’ll handle these work matters for you.”
Shi Sheng hesitated, “I’d like to understand it a bit more.”
This time Wu Nan er didn’t reply immediately; it took him a while to send a message. “I’ve marked the deadlines for you. I’ll send you the audio samples and scripts later. You’re smart, and you’ll remember eventually. Don’t rush.”
“Okay.”
“Are you going to make dinner plans for tomorrow already? Isn’t it too hasty?”
Shi Sheng thought for a moment. It wasn’t hasty, it was better to stabilize things at work earlier so that he could move out of Lu Lin’s dorm.
Wu Nan er’s efficiency was indeed fast. In no time, all the documents were sent over. Shi Sheng opened a box of biscuits and ate while reading. The sound of water in the bathroom stopped.
Lu Lin’s voice came through the wall, “I forgot to bring my shorts.”
Shi Sheng, with biscuits in his mouth, made a grass-like sound.
“My foot is still broken. How am I supposed to bring them to you?”
“Then I’ll come out.”
The door unlocked, and plastic slippers, wet with water, squeaked as they walked out. Shi Sheng quickly covered his eyes, “Are you doing this on purpose? How could you forget something like this?”
“What’s there to be ashamed of, boyfriend? We’re all adults here.” The teasing voice approached from afar, carrying moisture and warmth, with a faint smell of milk.
Before Shi Sheng could react, half of the biscuit in his mouth was bitten off, and their lips briefly touched before leaving no trace.
It was as if that moment just now was an illusion.
A sense of restlessness rose on his face. Hearing Lu Lin putting on his pants, he put his hand down and saw Lu Lin looking at him with a smile. Shi Sheng’s gaze gradually lowered, taking in Lu Lin’s wheat-colored skin, broad shoulders, narrow waist, prominent eight-pack abs, and the water droplets hanging from his chest, resembling a marble maze rolling along a track, wetting the edge of his pants along the V line.
Lu Lin had a towel on his head. He casually wiped his hair and looked at Shi Sheng, “How is it?”
He swallowed his saliva unsteadily, “…charming and alluring.”
Lu Lin chuckled, picked up the hairdryer, and turned to look for a socket to blow-dry his hair. Shi Sheng quickly lifted his pajamas to look at his small white belly button, pondering.
His own abs had somehow turned into a jumbled mess.
However—
“Why are you using a shower gel with a milk fragrance?”
As the hairdryer stopped, Lu Lin turned his head to look at him, raising an eyebrow, making Shi Sheng inexplicably guilty.
“That’s a question for someone else,” Lu Lin said, one hand on his hip. “I don’t know who it was that bought a bottle of shower gel on sale and felt too embarrassed to use it themselves, insisting on giving it to me.”
“…”
“Do you know how many times the commissar laughed at me because of this shower gel?” Lu Lin looked at him in silence, “On April Fools’ Day, you even used my ID to sign me up for the ‘Male and Female Charge Forward’ competition.”
Most of his embarrassing incidents at the squadron were thanks to someone. His colleagues at the squadron might not recognize Shi Sheng’s face, but they had certainly heard about the mischief he had caused Lu Lin.
Shi Sheng suddenly realized, “…Really? Then did you win the refrigerator?”
“What do you think?”
Shi Sheng tried hard to bite his lips, but couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter. He turned his head silently, even his ribs were hurting from laughing.
He had been very happy today after being discharged from the hospital, feeling liberated all the way, but when he saw the things he had done in the past, he realized what true reverence was.
“Um,” Shi Sheng pretended to be calm, trying not to laugh until his face turned red, “it’s a pity we didn’t participate in the competition.”
“No,” Lu Lin fell silent for a moment, “…actually, I did.”
He remembered the refrigerator still sitting in Shi Sheng’s house to this day. It was just a means to coax him.
In other words, “Male Students and Female Students Charge Forward” was a challenging variety show. It was generally difficult to make it to the end. [It was said that] there was once a firefighter who participated and breezed through various obstacles like walking on flat ground, reaching the finish line in just one minute, and winning the prize.
