Chapter 53
Chapter 53: It Doesn’t Matter If His Heart Isn’t There, I Want Him, the Person
Sang Nian’s scalp was about to explode, she could barely hold the book in her hands.
Yan Yuan steadied her arm:
“What’s wrong?”
Sang Nian looked at him intently.
His eyes only held concern, oblivious to what had just happened.
The feeling of being watched had disappeared, as if it was just Sang Nian’s imagination.
However, her body’s instinctive fear couldn’t be fooled.
She was still trembling.
Sang Nian took a deep breath, put the book away in her storage pouch, and forced a smile:
“Nothing, I stayed up all night and feel a little dizzy.”
“Go rest,” Yan Yuan said with concern, “You don’t have to go to the training ground to practice swordsmanship this afternoon.”
Sang Nian nodded obediently:
“This disciple will take her leave.”
She left the study and hurried back to her bedroom, kicked off her shoes and burrowed into the covers, curling up into a ball.
Her body hadn’t recovered from the fear, and she couldn’t stop trembling.
Sang Nian tried to take deep breaths to calm herself down.
“Liu Liu,” she asked in her mind, “Did you feel it?”
Liu Liu was puzzled: “Feel what?”
…Even Liu Liu and Yan Yuan couldn’t sense each other’s presence.
I can’t investigate further.
Sang Nian thought.
If I keep investigating… I’ll die.
This isn’t something I can get involved in.
Just pretend I never saw that book.
Sang Nian slowly closed her eyes and murmured:
“None of this has anything to do with me. I just need to complete my mission and then go home.”
“Don’t meddle in other people’s business.”
But, will the person behind all this really let me go just because of this?
She clenched her fist.
…
“So you discovered me, interesting.”
The image in the water mirror froze.
The woman gazed at the girl’s not-so-peaceful sleeping face, resting her chin on her hand, and chuckled:
“So naive.”
“Now that you’re in the game, life or death is no longer up to you, Nian Nian.”
“Lord.”
A black mist floated over, transforming into a man with tattoos on his face.
He knelt down and bowed to the woman on the couch:
“Reporting to Lord, everything is arranged.”
The water mirror in front of the woman turned into an ordinary mirror. She picked up a box of rouge, lightly touched it with her slender fingertips, and leisurely applied it to her lips:
“How is Chenzhou doing?”
“The crow reported yesterday that the young master is doing well.”
The man hesitated:
“However, he hasn’t been able to get the Kunshan Jade shard yet, and he hid from us in Qingzhou for so long. Could it be that…his heart is no longer with the Shura Palace?”
The woman smiled slightly, her lips crimson:
“It doesn’t matter if his heart isn’t there, I want him, the person.”
“This subordinate is worried…”
“His affairs are none of your concern, Qing Gui.” The woman smiled faintly.
Qing Gui’s face turned pale: “This subordinate is guilty.”
“For years, you’ve been dissatisfied with him and have been trying to take his place. I’m not unaware of it.”
The smile on the woman’s face gradually faded, and her expression became cold as a pool of ice:
“But you can’t replace him, you will never be able to replace him.”
“The Shura Palace exists solely for him.”
“Where did Sang Nian go? She didn’t even come for dinner.”
The usually lively dining hall of the Xiaoyao sect was different this time, with only Chu Yao and Su Xueyin.
Chu Yao picked at the rice in her bowl, listlessly:
“Big Brother was also called away by Father. It’s so boring.”
Su Xueyin said:
“I heard that Junior sister Sang skipped class this morning without any reason, and Fourth Elder had a huge fit. She’s going to be in trouble tomorrow.”
Chu Yao pouted, scornfully:
“She didn’t come for dinner, and that pretty boy and Shen Hetun didn’t come either.”
“They’re such cowards, they don’t even dare to come for dinner without Sang Nian. Don’t even say I look down on him, if it were you, would you look up to him?”
Su Xueyin hesitated:
“Little Sister, it’s not like that.”
Chu Yao: “What do you mean?”
Su Xueyin was speechless and could only stuff a large mouthful of food into her mouth, mumbling:
“It’s not like that, anyway.”
Since Junior sister Sang hasn’t publicly acknowledged her relationship with Junior brother Xie, there must be their own reasons.
She couldn’t slip up and cause trouble.
Su Xueyin firmly believed she could keep this secret.
Physically keep it.
She stuffed another mouthful of food, firmly sealing her mouth.
Chu Yao was smug:
“See, you still want to speak up for that pretty boy, you’re speechless now.”
Su Xueyin: (Chewing with difficulty)
After finally swallowing the food, she bent down to pick up the chopsticks that Chu Yao had accidentally dropped on the floor and handed her a new pair:
“Little Sister, eat quickly, we have a lot to do.”
Chu Yao was puzzled: “What do we have to do?”
Su Xueyin: “Prepare for the Gathering of Heroes.”
She counted on her fingers:
“We need to prepare enough pills, and it’s best to re-temper our swords.”
“We need to find ore for tempering, and we can pick some spirit herbs along the way to refine pills.”
“Right, I borrowed a new spell book but haven’t read it yet, I need to read it quickly.”
“Let’s learn a couple more spells before we go to Jade Capital, you never know when we might need them.”
“It never hurts to learn more.”
After listening to this long list, Chu Yao’s head was spinning.
“You’re going to go back and forth so much, it’s too much trouble.”
She said:
“Just buy it from the market, it’ll only take two days to gather everything.”
Su Xueyin lowered her head and whispered:
“I don’t have that much money.”
Raising a good spirit sword is very expensive, nine out of ten sword cultivators are poor.
Not to mention she’s just an orphan with no background.
Although she’s the direct disciple of the Grand Elder, the spirit stones she receives from the sect every month are barely enough for basic expenses.
“I have money.”
Chu Yao patted her chest nonchalantly:
“Although Father doesn’t care about me, he gave me a lot of spirit stones, I can’t even spend it all by myself.”
Su Xueyin’s voice was soft but firm:
“That’s your money, I can’t take it. I can find spirit herbs and ore myself.”
Chu Yao scratched her head: “What kind of pills are you going to refine?”
Su Xueyin: “Just some basic hemostatic powder and muscle-building pills.”
“I have a lot of those, I’ll give you some directly. Don’t bother refining them, maybe your pills won’t even be as effective.”
Chu Yao rummaged through her storage pouch and said without looking up:
“My storage pouch is full, just in time.”
Su Xueyin pursed her lips and mustered her courage:
“I’ve always used your things since I was little, this time, I want to…”
Before she could finish, Chu Yao looked up and pulled out a bunch of bottles and jars from her storage pouch:
“The white ones are muscle-building pills, the red ones are hemostatic powder, I also found a few bottles of spirit essence for internal injuries. Now I can finally make room for new magic artifacts, you can’t refuse me.”
Then, she asked with a puzzled look:
“By the way, what were you saying just now? I didn’t hear you.”
Su Xueyin moved her lips, but in the end, she just shook her head in defeat:
“Nothing, thank you, Little Sister.”
She put away the pills, pursed her lips and smiled shyly at Chu Yao:
“Little Sister, will you always be so good to me?”
Chu Yao raised an eyebrow and gently pinched her cheeks:
“Of course, you’ve been my best friend since we were little.”
Su Xueyin’s cheeks were pulled out of shape, she could only squint and hum:
“You’re my best friend too.”
Meanwhile, on Guzhu Peak.
“Wow, look at this tofu, it’s fried to a golden brown on both sides.”
Shen Mingchao exclaimed in admiration.
Sang Nian smiled wryly and held out her hand:
“Hehe, delicious? Two million spirit stones.”
Shen Mingchao spat out the tofu he had just put in his mouth.
He slammed the table and roared:
“Is this tofu made of gold and silver? It’s so expensive?!”
Sang Nian ignored him and turned to the other side of the table.
Sang Nian: “Stare”
Xie Chenzhou: “.”
Xie Chenzhou began to calculate his savings in his mind.
He quietly put down his chopsticks and pushed the plate of tofu away.
