Chapter 16: Tang Liyue Becomes the CEO’s Assistant
At 10 a.m., Yu Corporation.
As soon as Yu Mo Yuan arrived at the office, he had barely sat down when Yuan Suo walked in with a file.
Just as Yuan Suo was about to speak, he raised his eyes and saw that Yu Mo Yuan’s face was as dark as charcoal.
Yuan Suo paused, then cautiously asked, “Who made our Second Master angry this time?”
Yu Mo Yuan didn’t look up. “Just speak if you have something to say.”
Yuan Suo sighed, walked over, sat down opposite him, and pushed the file in front of Yu Mo Yuan.
“The middle-aged man who met with Zhao Zhiliu and Zhao Zhi Hui in the abandoned factory? We’ve found out his identity. He’s connected to the car accident three years ago.”
A car accident from three years ago?
Yu Mo Yuan’s face remained cold as he opened the file.
Yuan Suo continued, “The man’s name is Wang Tao. He was the truck driver who was rear-ended by the eldest master three years ago. At the time, the police cleared the truck of responsibility, so our people didn’t investigate further. But now, it seems there’s more to it.”
“You should look at the second page. It’s Wang Tao’s bank account. The day before the accident, he received a transfer of one million from an online account. The day after the accident, he received two million.”
“This Wang Tao had been in and out of prison before becoming a truck driver. He’s definitely not a good person. Plus, he just so happens to have earned three million right around the time of the accident. So, he’s definitely involved.”
Yu Mo Yuan asked, “Do we know where he went?”
“He went to the Ice Frost Country. Our people are still tracking him, waiting for instructions.”
Yu Mo Yuan didn’t respond. He furrowed his brows and closed the file, then began to rhythmically tap his fingers on the desk, a habitual gesture when he was deep in thought.
Half a minute later, Yu Mo Yuan looked up at Yuan Suo. “Don’t move against him yet. He traveled all the way from Ice Frost Country to meet with Zhao Zhiliu, so it’s likely that the three million is spent, and now he’s coming to ask for more money.”
“Zhao Zhiliu must have met with him because he holds crucial evidence that forces her to soften.”
“With Zhao Zhiliu’s petty and vicious character, there’s no way she would give him money. She’d rather resort to violence.”
“All you need to do is keep an eye on Wang Tao. When Zhao Zhiliu’s people decide to take action, we’ll rescue him. There’s no need to act too early, just ensure he doesn’t die.”
Yuan Suo nodded. “Understood.”
“Also, find the traffic officer who was in charge of the car accident and have the vehicle involved in the accident inspected again.”
Yuan Suo was taken aback. “You suspect the vehicle your eldest brother was driving was tampered with?”
Yu Mo Yuan replied, “That car was given to Minchuan by Zhao Zhiliu. Minchuan has always been lazy about getting a driver’s license and doesn’t like letting others drive him, so every time he went to a performance, he would ask me to drive him. I suspect… the accident was meant for me.”
“What? Minchuan’s car! It was aimed at you? Did Minchuan arrange this? But why would he get in the car?”
Yu Mo Yuan’s face darkened. He raised his leg and kicked Yuan Suo’s chair hard under the table, sending it sliding back by two meters.
“Minchuan grew up right behind you. Don’t you know his character?”
Yuan Suo scratched his nose, giving a forced smile, then slowly moved his chair back. “I wasn’t thinking clearly just now.”
Yuan Suo continued, “Now I get it. Zhao Zhiliu must have tampered with the car. She knew Minchuan would want you to drive him, so she targeted you. But she didn’t expect that the car would end up with the eldest master in it.”
Yu Mo Yuan nodded. “Nine times out of ten.”
“Damn, Zhao Zhiliu is ruthless. Doesn’t she fear taking two lives in one go? Minchuan is her own son!” Yuan Suo exclaimed.
After a brief pause, he continued, “No wonder when you realized something was wrong with the accident, you didn’t explain. If Minchuan knew his own mother was involved, he’d surely collapse.”
Yu Mo Yuan tugged at his tie. “Perhaps Zhao Zhiliu is the mastermind, but the person who put my elder brother and Minchuan in the car was me. So, there’s no need for an explanation. Minchuan is right to resent me.”
Yuan Suo scoffed. “But who could have known the car was tampered with? Besides, Wang Tao’s appearance proves it’s more than just a tampered car. Zhao Zhiliu might have a bigger scheme. You can’t blame yourself. I think you should tell Minchuan the truth. He’s an adult, and he has the right to know.”
Yu Mo Yuan shook his head. “There’s no conclusion yet, no need for him to know.”
Yuan Suo shrugged. “Fine.”
The car accident was a thorn in Yu Mo Yuan’s heart. Yuan Suo didn’t want to dig deeper, so he shifted the topic.
“I went around the administration office before coming here and found some decent candidates in the resumes. I’ve sent them to your email. Can you take a look and see if any of them are satisfactory?”
Yu Mo Yuan opened his email.
There were five resumes, four men and one woman.
Yu Mo Yuan furrowed his brows.
Seeing this, Yuan Suo quickly explained, “I know you don’t like female assistants, but this girl, Tang Liyue, is the only one among all the applicants who is fluent in multiple languages.”
“You just said… what’s her name?”
“Tang Liyue. She’s a top student from the Department of Languages at A University.”
At this moment, Yu Mo Yuan’s furrowed brows relaxed. He moved the mouse and opened the resume in the email.
He skimmed through the first four resumes, directly opening Tang Liyue’s.
On the resume, Tang Liyue’s photo looked very youthful, likely taken when she had just entered university.
Her resume was as simple as her appearance: zero work experience, hobbies listed as drinking milk tea, and a salary expectation of 8,000 to 10,000 yuan.
Yu Mo Yuan smiled slightly. “She’s the one. Have HR send her the job offer.”
“OK.”
–
At the Yu family mansion.
In the sunroom of the small garden, Tang Liyue was holding an ice pack, helping Yu Minchuan soothe his face.
At that moment, Tang Liyue’s phone in her pocket dinged.
Yu Minchuan noticed and took the ice pack from her. Smiling, he said, “I’ll do it myself. You can check your message.”
“Alright.”
Tang Liyue stepped aside and opened her phone. She saw that she had received an email.
She glanced at it, then froze for a moment.
Seeing her frozen, Yu Minchuan curiously asked, “What’s wrong, Liyue?”
Tang Liyue looked up. “It’s nothing. I just got a scam email.”
“Scam?”
Tang Liyue put her phone down. “Yes, it seems like someone hacked into the job board’s backend and sent me an employment letter with a monthly salary of 50,000 yuan. The only things on it were a large letter ‘Y’ and the salary figure. There’s nothing else. How is that not a scam?”
A 50,000 yuan monthly salary? She was just a recent college graduate with no work experience.
For fresh graduates, there’s usually an internship period, and the salary during that period is rarely more than 5,000 yuan.
If the email claims a 50,000 yuan salary from the start, how could that not be a scam?
But after hearing Tang Liyue’s words, Yu Minchuan actually chuckled.
“Liyue, it’s not a scam. It’s probably a job offer from Yu Corporation.”
“Huh?”
Tang Liyue opened the email again and took another look. “Oh, I see. The letter Y stands for Yu Corporation. Your company’s employee benefits are that good? Even a random assistant gets a 50,000 yuan salary?”
Yu Minchuan narrowed his eyes, expression unreadable.
Assistant? 50,000 yuan salary? Could it be…?
Yu Minchuan stayed silent for a few seconds before looking at Tang Liyue with a smile. “Liyue, I think you should give it a try.”
“Huh? Do you think I can do it…?”
The salary was so high that Tang Liyue felt something was off. The job couldn’t be too difficult, could it?
Yu Minchuan answered, “New employees usually receive training. I think you’re very talented, and you can handle it.”
Tang Liyue hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded. “Mm, I think I should give it a try.”
If she could really handle this job, she could save 500,000 to 600,000 yuan in a year.
500,000 to 600,000 yuan would be enough to cover Aunt Qiu’s medical expenses.
At that point, she could leave the Yu family and the Tang family, take Aunt Qiu, and start a new, free life in another city!
