Chapter 21: Throwing Herself Into His Arms Again
By the time they returned from the hospital, it was already past ten at night.
Yu Qi went back to the residence for bodyguards, while Tang Liyue returned to the villa.
Before entering, she glanced up at the two windows on the second floor, both were dark.
Yu Minchuan was probably asleep, and as for Yu Mo Yuan, he likely hadn’t returned yet.
Tang Liyue let out a sigh of relief and pushed open the front door.
But…
The living room lights were still on, and a man sat on the sofa, holding a wine glass and drinking.
Who else could this man be but Yu Mo Yuan?
Hearing the door open behind him, Yu Mo Yuan turned his head slightly to glance toward the entrance.
Seeing it was Tang Liyue, he showed no surprise and retracted his gaze, lazily crossing one leg over the other as he asked indifferently, “Out so late, where did you go?”
Tang Liyue didn’t answer. She bent down to change her shoes and tried to hurry upstairs.
She didn’t want to have too much contact with Yu Mo Yuan!
Although Yu Mo Yuan didn’t act as aggressively as Zhao Zhiliu, Tang Liyue still found him far more terrifying.
His emotions were too unpredictable! Those deep black eyes were impossible to read!
Tang Liyue thought she could simply ignore Yu Mo Yuan, but just as she stepped onto the stairs, she heard a low chuckle from behind.
She instantly froze, a chill running down her spine.
She didn’t dare move.
Seeing that he had scared Tang Liyue into standing still, Yu Mo Yuan finally picked up his wine glass and took a sip.
“Come here. Don’t make me say it twice.”
Tang Liyue sighed in both frustration and helplessness. She turned around reluctantly and walked toward the sofa, sitting down across from Yu Mo Yuan.
As soon as she sat, she spoke with a hint of resentment, “What orders does Second Master have?”
“Why not call me Second Uncle?”
Tang Liyue repeated, “Then, what orders does Second Uncle have?”
Clearly, there was no chance of escaping Yu Mo Yuan’s attention!
When he said he “wouldn’t do anything to her,” it probably only meant he wouldn’t touch her physically.
But he still treated her as his possession, always teasing her, always controlling her.
She couldn’t fight against someone like him! She could only endure!
Yu Mo Yuan’s face remained expressionless, but his gaze turned slightly colder as it landed on the bloodstains on Tang Liyue’s sleeve and hem. His brows furrowed.
“You just took Yu Qi to the hospital?”
“Yes, Second Uncle.”
Tang Liyue deliberately acted meek and submissive, even more obedient than the house servants.
But when Yu Mo Yuan saw the dissatisfaction in Tang Liyue’s eyes, he knew her so-called “obedience” was just for show.
Yu Mo Yuan stared at her seriously. “Do you think you’re being kind? Do you realize that your actions are provoking Zhao Zhiliu?”
Provoking Zhao Zhiliu?
Tang Liyue was confused. “How is that provoking her? I just took him to the hospital. He was so badly injured, I’d have helped even a stranger. Since when is having compassion a bad thing?”
“So, you’ve grown bold enough to talk back to me now?”
Tang Liyue turned her head away and let out a small huff.
She wasn’t being bold, she had just given up.
It didn’t matter if she begged, it didn’t matter if she avoided him, nothing worked anyway.
“Did you even know that the Yu family has its own in-house doctor?”
Tang Liyue froze. “Huh?”
Yu Mo Yuan continued, “The Yu estate is enormous. Just the gardeners, servants, drivers, and bodyguards alone number in the hundreds. With so many people living here, of course, we have a medical facility.”
Tang Liyue fell silent.
After a long pause, she muttered, “But Minchuan didn’t tell me…”
“That’s because he’s using you as a pawn.”
Tang Liyue frowned. “What are you talking about?”
Seeing her innocent and clueless expression, Yu Mo Yuan suddenly found himself at a loss for words.
Should he just tell her outright that she was being used?
Looking at her naive, wide-eyed face, she probably wouldn’t believe him. She’d just assume he was badmouthing Yu Minchuan.
Losing interest, Yu Mo Yuan simply waved her off. “I’m done wasting my breath on an idiot like you. Get lost.”?!
How was she an idiot?!
He was the one who called her over, and now he was the one telling her to leave halfway through the conversation?!
Fuming, Tang Liyue pouted, stood up, and turned to leave.
After a few steps, her anger flared up again. She whipped around and snapped at his back, “You’re the idiot!”
Then, before he could react, she bolted upstairs like she was running for her life.
On the sofa, Yu Mo Yuan sat frozen for a moment before setting down his wine glass and chuckling softly.
He had been bored and thought he’d give her a little warning, but she didn’t appreciate it, and even had the guts to insult him?
What a little ingrate.
And yet… somehow, it was kind of cute.
In a normal family, someone with Tang Liyue’s personality might have been well-liked.
But the Yu family was a den of snakes, where everyone, masters and servants alike, had countless schemes up their sleeves.
Someone as naive and kind-hearted as Tang Liyue would only end up being toyed with, like a helpless little rabbit caught in their grasp.
If she didn’t start using her brain, she might really end up with nothing left, not even her bones.
Forget it, forget it.
Once she started her new job the day after tomorrow, he’d personally train her.
At that moment, Yu Mo Yuan heard footsteps again.
Turning his head, he saw Tang Liyue sneakily peeking from the top of the stairs.
The moment their eyes met, she quickly pulled her head back.
But since she’d already been caught, hiding was useless.
Tang Liyue had no choice but to step out awkwardly and mumble, “I-I just came down to get some water.”
She had originally gone back to her room, but there was no kettle inside. The grilled meat from earlier had been too salty, and she was really thirsty.
Yu Mo Yuan said lazily, “Then go get it. It’s not like I’m going to eat you.”
Huh?
She had just called him an idiot, yet he wasn’t mad?!
Cautiously, Tang Liyue took two steps toward the kitchen. Seeing that Yu Mo Yuan didn’t react, she let out a sigh of relief and hurried inside to get her water.
Just as she was about to leave with her glass, Yu Mo Yuan spoke again.
“Bring me a bottle of wine from the cabinet first.”
Tang Liyue hesitated, she really didn’t feel like doing him any favors.
But since he hadn’t even gotten mad when she insulted him, refusing him now seemed a little ungrateful.
So, she reluctantly walked over, grabbed a bottle, and carried it to the sofa.
But then, Still feeling guilty about calling him an idiot, she wasn’t paying attention to her feet. Her right leg hit the edge of the coffee table, and she tripped, falling straight forward.
“Ah!” Tang Liyue squeezed her eyes shut, bracing herself for the pain.
But instead of hitting the floor…
She landed in Yu Mo Yuan’s arms.
Because she had fallen directly forward, her entire upper body was now pressed against his chest.
She could feel every inch of herself pressed against his solid frame.
Tang Liyue froze, her brain short-circuiting.
Yu Mo Yuan let out a low chuckle. He placed his left hand on her waist, pulling her up slightly, holding her even closer.
Then, he smirked. “Throwing yourself at me again?”
Whoosh, her face turned bright red in an instant.
