Chapter 224: Dream (2)
The two of them remained silent until deep into the night, walking into the room together.
Leo’s chaotic emotions dissipated significantly, leaving only anxiety and excitement.
Michelle, on the other hand, confidently took his hand and led him into the room.
Leo took a deep breath, his body stiff as he lay on the bed.
Michelle snuggled closely beside him, her silver eyes observing him in the darkness.
“Are we not going to do it?”
“Let’s do it…”
Leo struggled to open his mouth, his throat feeling a bit dry.
“Forget it.”
He let out a heavy sigh.
“Then let’s leave it at that; let’s just rest well today.”
Michelle nestled against him, closing her eyes.
Leo felt troubled, casting aside all his chaotic thoughts, holding the saintess in his arms, quietly enjoying the warmth of the moment.
Even knowing it was an illusion, he didn’t want to give up this rare moment of tranquility.
The next morning, dawn broke.
The morning sun slowly rose from the horizon, its gentle light spreading across the land, softly shining through the window and casting specks of light on the blanket.
“Leo, good morning!”
Michelle revealed a gentle smile.
At that moment, she stood by the window, gazing at the vast world outside. When she saw him awake, she turned her head and smiled brightly, warm feelings surged from Leo’s heart, more comforting than the morning sun.
“Leo, let’s go shopping today.” After helping him get dressed, Michelle said, “It’s been a long time since we went, and we can relax a bit.”
“Mm.”
Here, Leo wanted to satisfy her requests as much as possible.
They lived in a place far from human habitation, and after walking two or three kilometers, they could see a small town.
Without using teleportation magic, a leisurely walk was the joy of life.
Although the town was small and not prosperous, everyone wore smiles, filled with hope for the future.
After the demon king was defeated, everyone was filled with confidence about the future.
“Michelle, we finally came today; come try some fresh fruits, these are all for you.”
“These are vegetables just picked this morning; take some back.”
“Have you had breakfast? Come eat a bowl of noodles with me before you go?”
Seeing Michelle approach, the townspeople took out the things they had prepared for her.
The saintess was indeed popular everywhere she went.
Michelle responded to each one with a smile, her gentle expression shining like the sunlight, leaving everyone present in a daze.
“You must be Michelle’s husband; you have to treat her well, or we won’t let you off.”
Immediately, a group of people came to Leo’s side, pretending to threaten him.
Only after Leo repeatedly assured them did they disperse.
Leo caught a glimpse of the saintess looking at him with a happy expression.
That expression was simply unfair, making one willingly indulge in it.
The two of them strolled for nearly a day, only heading back in the afternoon.
This town belonged to the Satilon Empire and was quite inconspicuous; although it wasn’t large, it had a population of over ten thousand, and Michelle knew almost every family.
Although the town had a church, there were very few clergy, and their abilities were somewhat lacking; many times, it was Michelle who treated the residents’ illnesses.
Even though she had already resigned, she still fulfilled her responsibilities.
The people were grateful to her, hoping that this kind and lovely girl could find happiness.
On the way back, Leo noticed that Michelle seemed a bit distracted, her expression faintly dim.
“What’s wrong?” Leo asked.
Michelle strode forward, facing the afterglow of the sunset, turning to look at him.
There was a hint of sorrow in her smile, and Leo felt a pang in his heart.
“Leo, I went against my vow and chose to be with you. Here, I can only help them as much as I can, trying to make up for the regrets in my heart. I am no longer a qualified chosen saintess.”
“But no matter when, I will never regret it. The time I spent with you has been the happiest.”
“I want to possess you entirely, to have you always, but I know that this is impossible.”
“Why? Haven’t we already gotten married?” Leo couldn’t understand or accept it.
“I know,” Michelle’s gaze was somewhat forlorn, “your heart doesn’t belong here.”
Silver strands of hair fluttered, gently brushing against the girl’s silver eyes, which held a hint of sadness. Leo’s gaze widened, unable to look away from her expression.
“Why do you say that?”
Michelle fell silent for a moment, wearing a bitter smile. “Since yesterday, you’ve become a bit strange, not the normal you. Since then, I’ve felt something was off. Clearly, we are already married, so why does my heart ache so much when I’m with you? It should be a joyful thing, but why is it so painful? You are right in front of me, yet it feels like there is a world between us.”
At this point, tears streamed down Michelle’s face, her eyes misty as she looked at him. “It’s the same now; my heart has been hurting so much, really hurting, as if you have left me forever. I must be sick, very sick.”
Leo’s emotions surged within him, unable to calm down for a long time.
“I must have a problem; everything was normal before. I don’t quite understand. Just now, the smiles on the residents’ faces were as warm as usual, but it always felt a bit unreal.”
“Since you came, everything around me has changed, becoming strange, becoming illusory.”
“I think this is just a false world, and you are the only real one. I am not the real me; this pain in my heart is because of the false happiness.”
“It must be the real me’s emotional outpouring because you are not by my side, which is why it hurts so much, so sad. All emotions are reflected on me. I am a bad woman, taking you away from her.”
Leo no longer knew what to say.
Yes, the real Michelle must be in so much pain; she still had the responsibilities of the chosen saintess, holding her up so she wouldn’t fall.
While he indulged in the false happiness before him, Michelle had been immersed in pain all along.
Yet, as he looked at Michelle’s face, he wondered if this feeling was really just an illusion.
He approached Michelle, tightly embracing her trembling body.
Her feelings could not be wrong; the current her and the real her were the same person. He regretted having doubts about it before.
Her love, her pain, were reflections of the real world.
Her eyes were looking at him, replacing the real Michelle.
The real Michelle had been calling for him, wanting him to return.
“I’m sorry,” Leo spoke softly.
“It’s okay,” Michelle smiled through her tears.
“I’m still alive; I will definitely return. I swear I will come back to your side, to see you. Anyone who dares to stand in our way will surely meet a terrible end!”
Michelle’s eyes brightened, revealing a happy expression. “How strange, my heart doesn’t hurt as much anymore; this longing must have been conveyed.”
“Now, don’t think about anything.”
“Leo, let’s be happy together.”
