Chapter 227: Communication
What Leo found hard to accept was that nearly half a year had passed since his last death.
During the time he had been fighting against Sexus, many things had happened.
And now, even though he had broken free from Sexus’s control, he still had not regained control over his body.
He could only act as a bystander, unable to interfere with the actions outside.
That guy, wearing his face, had a name and repeatedly did things that made his blood pressure soar.
If it weren’t for his good luck and his strong physique, he would have long since been dead.
He had to change this situation.
In the realm of consciousness, Leo observed the other for several days and finally confirmed that during the night while sleeping or when injured and unconscious, he had some control over his body.
He tried to approach another version of himself.
After multiple attempts, he found himself in a surreal dream world.
The hero named Leo had defeated the world-threatening Sexus, standing with his hands on his hips, laughing heartily. In front of him, Sexus led a group of demon lords, kneeling on the ground, begging for mercy. The crowd, seeing this, rushed forward to surround him, lifting him into the air in celebration, and the world was restored to peace.
Leo watched this scene with a dark expression; a person who had such a disgraceful dream was definitely not him.
He tried to interfere with the dream using his will.
The scene shifted, the world darkened, and the enthusiastic crowd surrounding the hero lay dead in a pool of blood, their faces frozen in fear, eyes wide open in death.
Those who should have been kneeling, like Sexus, turned around and stood on a hill made of countless corpses, looking down coldly, the thick scent of darkness and blood surrounding them, making their figures even more terrifying, exuding a mountain-like oppressive force.
Hero Leo looked around in panic, his vision filled with ferocious demons, pairs of crimson eyes emitting a strange bloody light in the dark world, death approaching with their footsteps. Hero Leo was flustered, looking around for a way to escape.
Suddenly, he stumbled, nearly falling, and saw two companions lying on the ground, Ileina and Rochelle, covered in blood, their eerie pupils staring at him, as if resenting his weakness for causing their deaths.
“No!!!”
The tragic deaths of his companions plunged him into deep fear, the chaotic dark emotions dragging him into an unknown abyss.
Suddenly, a pair of strong hands pulled him out of the abyss.
The desperate scene around him shattered like a mirror, and in front of him appeared a person who looked exactly like him.
“Who are you?”
Hero Leo looked at him warily.
The other Leo held a sword of intent in his hand, and a flash of sword light struck like lightning, tearing his body in half.
In the next moment, the fallen hero Leo stood up again, the torn wound quickly stitching itself back together, his body restored to its original state, staring at him in shock.
Leo felt a bit disappointed and could only try outside, letting the old man take action to cut off his second personality.
He changed his attitude and said to hero Leo, “Do you want this kind of power?”
“Who are you? Why do you look exactly like me?” Hero Leo stared at him intently.
“I am you, and you are me; we have always been the same person.” Leo spoke mysteriously, creating an air of enigma.
Hero Leo looked at him suspiciously, somewhat uncertain.
“I know everything about you, including your thoughts, your past, and your pursuits. I can give you the power strong enough to defeat Sexus, making you a true hero.” Leo coaxed him gently.
Hero Leo’s expression was puzzled, somewhat disbelieving of his words.
Leo continued, “You know you are weak, unable to protect your companions or save the world. You are afraid, afraid that one day everyone will die, the world will be occupied by demons, and you will become the most failed hero, just like in the dream you just had.”
Hero Leo’s body trembled, his face pale; those words struck a chord with him.
Leo’s expression remained unchanged as he continued, “And I can grant you new power. You have seen the swordsmanship just now; if you are willing to trust me, you can also possess this power.”
Hero Leo hesitated slightly, but soon his gaze became firm, “What should I do?”
“It’s simple. There is a newly established Heartflow Swordsmanship Dojo in the Imperial Capital. Find the dojo master, and he will help you become stronger.”
Leo felt fortunate that things were progressing smoothly. Although this guy was weak, he was also aware of his own strength. Being a hot-blooded fool, he rarely doubted others, and with just a few words, Leo had convinced him.
“Will he help me?”
“Of course, the Heartflow is recruiting disciples, and you have great talent; they won’t give up on you.”
“I understand.”
Hero Leo nodded seriously.
Before dawn, a faint light spread across the distant horizon. After hero Leo woke up, he felt no sleepiness and got up to find his two companions.
At this time, they were in the midst of marching and fighting against the demon vanguard.
“Ileina, Rochelle, wake up!” he shouted outside the tent.
“Shut up! Why aren’t you sleeping?”
Ileina came out in her pajamas, rubbing her sleepy eyes, looking at him with dissatisfaction.
“I’m going to the Imperial Capital now; come with me.”
“Huh? Now?”
Ileina looked at him as if he were foolish, then realized that this guy had always acted so decisively, a bit out of touch; once he got fired up, he would do whatever he wanted, and no one could stop him.
“But we are already apprentice knights. If we leave the battlefield without permission, we might be treated as deserters, and there will be no hope of being promoted to formal knights in the future.”
At this moment, Rochelle also walked out of the tent.
Ileina nodded, “You understand, right? That’s how it is.”
After saying that, she turned and walked back into the tent to continue sleeping.
“Also, I shouldn’t involve you; I’ll go by myself.”
Hero Leo agreed and then simply checked his equipment before turning to leave.
Seeing this, Ileina immediately grabbed him, “Wait! I understand now; we’ll ask for leave. You are a hero who has made great contributions; they will definitely agree.”
The main issue was that hero Leo’s power was unstable, sometimes strong and sometimes weak, and he could not be a decisive force on the battlefield.
Ileina thought for a moment and felt that there was a possibility of permission from the military higher-ups; otherwise, she wouldn’t accompany him in this nonsense.
Hero Leo looked delighted, “Great! I knew you wouldn’t abandon me; we are the most important companions, so let’s go together.”
He directly pulled the two of them along.
Rochelle: ???
Do I have to go too? When did I agree to that?
“Wait! I still need to change clothes.” Ileina felt a bit of a headache and went back to the tent to change.
